Beer & Cable at Acheron (more by BBG)
Beer & Cable

The Meatmen are going on tour in October, and it will be a full night of snotty punk in Brooklyn right after CMJ, at Europa on October 23rd. The NYC show features support from the one and only Black Fag (the absolutely fabulous tribute to Black Flag in their first NYC appearance!), Runny, and the always obnoxious Beer & Cable (thats a compliment). Tickets for the show are on sale. All daes are listed below.

Beer & Cable will also play a beer-soaked Acheron benefit show TONIGHT (9/16) for a mere $5 (or more if you want). Help keep this important metal/punk space alive.

Meatmen dates and a whole bunch of videos so attendees know what they're getting into, below...

Meatmen

The Meatmen are hitting the road tomorrow (4/16) for a Northeast tour including April 19th at Europa in Brooklyn with Chapstik, Loafass, and The Blackout Shoppers. Tickets are on sale. A little more than two weeks after The Meatmen wrap things up in Columbus, Ohio, the band will head out to the west coast for a second leg. All tour dates are below.

The Meatmen recently dropped a collection of covers and their first album in thirteen years, Cover The Earth. Featuring 24 covers of songs from "40 years of our favorite tunes", Tesco Vee & the boys recorded songs by Motorhead, GG Allin, Thin Lizzy, The Fugs, Roky Erickson, Fear and many others. Pick that record up at the show or here.

Speaking of Fear, the LA band has scheduled a pair of NYC dates at Europa on May 6th (tickets) and May 7th (tickets). Credit Mongrel with the assist on both nights, while Tall Black Girls & Violent Bullshit will open May 6th and Cerebral Ballzy & Runny will rock the 7th. Besides the NYC double header, Fear are also playing May 8th at Club Hell in Providence and May 9th at The Trocadero in Philadelphia. Lee Ving also recently opened a twitter account here.

As previously mentioned, The Fugs, who are also covered on Cover The Earth, will play The Bell House in Brooklyn on April 29th with Acrylics, White Williams, Golden Triangle and many others. The show is "a benefit concert... to raise money for Rory O'Sullivan, ...a 24 year old aspiring filmmaker suffering from a massive brain tumor". Regular tickets are on sale, and you can buy VIP tickets which include all types of freebies and will benefit a bonfide 501 (c)(3)... Those of you who just finished your taxes may know what that is. For more information, to buy VIP tickets, or just to donate, head here.

The Fugs current lineup is Tuli Kupferberg, Ed Sanders, Ken Weaver and Steven Taylor. All Fear and Meatmen dates below...

Touch and Go

"It is with great sadness that we are reporting some major changes here at Touch and Go Records. Many of you may not be aware, but for nearly 2 decades, Touch and Go has provided manufacturing and distribution services for a select yet diverse group of other important independent record labels. Titles from these other labels populate the shelves of our warehouse alongside the titles on our own two labels, Touch and Go Records, and Quarterstick Records.

"Unfortunately, as much as we love all of these labels, the current state of the economy has reached the point where we can no longer afford to continue this lesser known, yet important part of Touch and Go's operations. Over the years, these labels have become part of our family, and it pains us to see them go. We wish them all the very best and we will be doing everything we can to help make the transition as easy as possible.

"Touch and Go will be returning to its roots and focusing solely on being an independent record label. We'll be busy for a few months working closely with the departing labels and scaling our company to an appropriate smaller size after their departure. It is the end of a grand chapter in Touch and Go's history, but we also know that good things can come from new beginnings." - Corey Rusk

Right before Chicagoist pointed out that the Chicago Tribune had this official statement, a ton of links to Time Out Chicago's story about the label going completely out of business landed in my inbox simultaneously (thx all). Luckily that turned out to be not completely true.

As Time Out pointed out, "Touch and Go began at the dawn of the '80s in East Lansing, Michigan, before founders Tesco Vee and Dave Stimson handed the biz over to Necros bassist Corey Rusk in 1983." Tesco Vee will be in NYC on April 19th when The Meatmen headline a show at Europa with Chapstick. Tickets are on sale.

Touch & Go celebrated their 25th Anniversary as a label in 2006. Check out pictures from the birthday festival they hads that year HERE, HERE, and HERE, and grab a whole ton of Touch & Go MP3's, HERE.

the Meatmen @ SXSW

The Meatmen are back again.... and you STILL suck! Who cares about Obama and Clinton when the news is that Tesco Vee is heading out on a campaign of his own... Monster Hate in '08! Tesco Vee, founder of The Meatmen and co-founder of Touch & Go Records, has a few dates scheduled including a show at Europa in Brooklyn on Aug 22nd. Tickets are on sale.

The Meatmen have always been (and still are) Tesco Vee and his latest collaborators. Collaborators have included Brian Baker (Minor Threat, Dag Nasty, Bad Religion), Lyle Presslar (Minor Threat), Todd Swalla (Necros) and many many many others. According to SXSW, "The new line up includes current members of various Midwest hard rock bands including Superchrist, the Paybacks, the Sirens and Red Swan." Speaking of SXSW, that's where all the pictures in this post were taken (Friday, March 14, 2008, 10:00 p.m. @ Emo's Annex to be exact). Editor's note: The show was great. Tesco Vee is a true showman. Everyone in the crowd seemed to agree...

In related news, Dutch Hercules & the Meatmen have a new DVD, The Devil's In The Details, due out this summer (buy it here). It promises "2 Hours of Raw Meat Pleasure"... sounds yummy.

In less related news, but still related, reunited punks and Touch N' Go Labelmates, Negative Approach, recently played Southpaw and WFMU (which is available for download).
