Psychedelic Furs at Wellmont in 2009 (more by Tim Griffin)
The Psychedelic Furs recently reissued their sophomore album Talk Talk Talk (home of "Pretty In Pink") in Europe, where they toured the album in its entirety. On Saturday (6/25), they kicked off a tour for the album in America. That tour doesn't hit NYC, but they will come through in October for a traditional show at Irving Plaza on October 3 with Tom Tom Club. Tickets are on sale now.
Both Psychedelic Furs and Tom Tom Club also have festival appearances scheduled in August and both are playing the Hamptons. As mentioned, Tom Tom Club play Music to Know Fest in East Hampton. Psychedelic Furs were added to Escape to New York at the Shinnecock Reservation in Southampton, NY on August 5 - 7. Tickets are still available. Other recently confirmed acts include Of Montreal, Savoir Adore, Reptar, Mates of State, Tiger Love, and Jolly Boys.

"Escape to New York, an art, music and interactive performance party from the creator of the Secret Garden Party UK is pleased to confirm their Friday and Saturday line-ups:Well, hopefully this festival doesn't need to sell as many tickets as Music to Know Fest which happens in East Hampton one weekend later (and just announced Vampire Weekend, Bright Eyes, Cold War Kids, Chromeo, Matt & Kim, etc). That said, with Escape to New York they're really trying to push the experience separate from the bands. In fact, a "Manifesto of the Party" on their website includes these lines:
Patti Smith, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, The Vaccines, Best Coast, Au Revoir Simone, Chairlift, Lissy Trullie, Graffiti 6, The Submarines, White Rabbits, Static Jacks and The Postelles.
The Sunday Main Stage line up and the weekend's DJ line up will be announced over the next few weeks........
Coming to the US shores for the first time, Escape to New York is the first pop-up destination community and independent experiential music and lifestyle festival to take place on Shinnecock Nation land adjacent to Southampton, New York, from August 5th through 7th, 2011.
Expect the unexpected. Imagine the unimaginable. This special event is unlike anything the east coast has experienced before including the world's biggest brunch at a live music festival, installation and performance art, experimental theater, high-end camping, aka "Glamping" and amazing culinary delights unlike any other festival event. Escape to New York will also feature a safe children play area so families can enjoy the festivities, shade areas to cool off in, traditional Shinnecock arts and crafts and food, and three days/nights of some of the best emerging artists and known heritage acts to be heard anywhere.
"Our goal is turn upside down the conventional music festival experience and recreate it in a way that makes each and every attendee walk away feeling they just had an incredibly unexpected and amazing VIP experience from the moment they entered our gates all the way through to when they pack up to return to their regular lives", shares Escape to New York Executive Producer, Fred Fellowes.
The location of Escape to New York on the sovereign Shinnecock Reservation land is also unique. The Shinnecocks have lived along the shores of Eastern Long Island for thousands of years, and in October 2010 became the 565th federally recognized tribe.
Thus upon entering the reservation you are both in and escaping New York.
"The Shinnecock Nation welcomes the Escape to New York festival that will take here in August and we are working closely with the festival team to assure a success," says Beverly Jensen, Shinnecock Tribe Member and Communications Director. "
What makes a good party? It ends with "Imagine a wonderland." Is this potential wonderland (and "the world's biggest brunch") worth $100 a day? Tickets are on sale.

For United, Richard Ashcroft recruited hip-hop producer No I.D., best known for Jay-Richard Ashcroft singles like "D.O.A." and "Run This Town." At its best, it kind of sounds like Big Audio Dynamite, and mixes up Jigga-worthy beats, noisy guitars, and cinematic strings courtesy of Barry White arranger Benjamin Wright.Richard Ashcroft played a sold-out Bowery Ballroom last night (3/23) with The Postelles, a day after he performed his new single "Are You Ready?" on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. In addition, the former Verve frontman recently made a stop at RXP for an in-studio performance.
That hip-hop ethos came through in New York, as Ashcroft -- wearing a hip-hop-appropriate puffed out, multi-pocketed jacket and backed by a crack outfit dubbed the United Nation of Sound -- uncorked the thick, rattling rhythms of new songs like "Are You Ready" and "Born Again" with excitement. Sometimes too much so, actually, as there were many instances of him making awkward b-boy hand gestures (aggressively pointing to the crowd, pointing to his eye, and then pointing up wards) while performing. -[Spin]
Ashcroft's new LP, United Nations of Sound is out now and currently streaming in full.

"fanfarlo was amazing last night. the experience left me inspired to be happy!" - Christy Gurga
Fanfarlo @ Bowery Ballroom in NYC - Sept 21, 2009 (awakinglim)
"Given the mere nine or so songs they played [at Chop Suey in Seattle on September 14th], jet-lagged or no, an encore was definitely in the offing. Nobody was leaving and everyone was clapping and expecting something. Promptly arriving back on stage, plastic tubes were handed out to the crowd to twirl above their heads, an opportunity for the audience to whimsically provide the high-pitched background hum for "Ghosts." It worked out better than I could have imagined (though the taller members of the crowd were probably not all that endeared by a constant threat to their head from all sides). After some mulling over requests, "Fire Escape" was decided as the second song of the encore.Fanfarlo kicked off their US tour in Seattle last week and are now in the midst of a two-night NYC run. If you missed them last night at Bowery Ballroom (9/21), you have another chance tonight (9/22) at The Bell House in Brooklyn (tickets are still available). Wildbirds and Peacedrums opened last night, and they do again tonight. Jonsi and Alex won't be there again tonight though.
Even after the house music came up, earnest chants of "One More Song! One More Song!" rung out until the band came back for a second encore. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw something like that with a new band like this."
[Sound on the Sound]
If you miss both, or even if you saw both, it won't be long before there's another chance to catch the London-based band in NYC. Fanfarlo are coming back for CMJ, and you'll have at least two chances to see them then. On October 21st they'll be at Bowery Ballroom again. That time it's with Midnight Juggernauts, The Postelles, TigerCity, Findlay Brown, and Freelance Whales (tickets). On Tuesday, October 20th (one night before Bowery), you can catch them at the official BrooklynVegan CMJ show at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Full lineup for that one to be announced shortly (and tickets will be on sale soon).

Following last year's inaugural event, festival producers began work immediately on resolving concerns expressed by fans in attendance. They have worked closely with their partners at NJ Transit to improve light-rail service and capacity. As an added value for 2009, festival goers who choose to travel to the site utilizing the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail line can ride for free throughout the weekend with their ALL POINTS WEST festival ticket. Additionally, based on the popularity of the ferry as a mode of transportation from lower Manhattan to Liberty State Park, the frequency and size of the ferryboats will increase at a reduced price for festival attendees.... The producers have also worked with their partners at Liberty State Park to improve the fan experience in the beer gardens. This year's areas will be larger, have shorter lines, and feature shade tents, views of the stages and food concessions...The second annual ALL POINTS WEST MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL returns to Liberty State Park in Jersey City, New Jersey Friday, July 31, Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2. Like last year, bands will play on three stages, except "the Queen of the Valley stage has been changed to a Coachella-like tent creating an environment that will showcase comedy, DJs, electronic acts and bands."
More details on the items above will be posted at the apwfestival.com. The entire lineup (it's good!) and ticket info, below...
