Acid Baby Jesus
Montreal's Hellshovel and Greek band Acid Baby Jesus are old buds, having met in the latter's home city of Athens in 2010 which resulted in a collaboration called Voyager 8 which you can stream below. The two bands, both on Slovenly Recordings, have similar psych-garage sounds and the joint record is pleasingly twisted. You can also stream each band's most recent LPs below as well.
Three years later, Hellshovel and Acid Baby Jesus are together again for a big North American tour which starts here in NYC with two shows: tonight (2/22) at The Bell House with The Psyched, Twin Guns, The Recordettes, The Mess-Around and WFMU's Dave the Spazz on DJ duties (tickets); and Cake Shop on Saturday (2/23) with Livids and K HOLES.
All Hellshovel/Acid Baby Jesus Dates are listed below.
Rick of Obits on stage with Hot Snakes at ATP NY 2012 (more by Erik Erikson)
Though Rick Froberg has been playing his fair share with Hot Snakes as of late, he's still left plenty of room for Obits. The band recently released a fresh pair of jams on a tour-only 7" during a Spanish tour. They've also curated and posted a a YouTube playlist of "random tunes kicking around in our heads" that you can watch below. And now comes word that the band has announced a pair of shows for us NYCers, the first of which will go down on 1/18 at Rock Shop with Browns & Wrong Dots. Tickets are on sale.
The second Obits date will go down on 1/19 at Cake Shop as part of a benefit for Norton Records. Joining the band will be sets from The Psyched, Flying Teeth, and Entartete. Tickets are on sale. If you can't make it to the 1/19 show, then you can give directly to help out Norton.
Head below for the Obits video playlist, as well as a video on some of the devastation at Norton Records.
