Magrudergrind at Music Hall of Williamsburg (more by BBG)

Metalsucks have announced most of their lineup slated for the Metal Suckfest 2011 at Gramercy Theater on November 4th and 5th. Joining the previously announced artists will be God Forbid, Howl, Black Tusk, Ramming Speed, Prime Evil, A Life Once Lost, Scale the Summit, Fight Amp, and Ultrageist across the two days. Tickets are on sale for both 11/4 and 11/5, or you can buy them packaged with tickets for Mayhem who play the day before (Metalsucks Pre-Game). Lineups by day and the show flyer is below.
Reminder: TWO of the artists slated to play the Metal Suckfest will play NYC this weekend. Fight Amp will support Weedeater/Oxbow/Bison BC at Europa on Saturday (9/10, tickets) and Despise You/Magrudergrind/Backslider/The Communion/Defeatist are at Shea Stadium (9/11).
Woe is also scheduled to play that Mayhem date at Gramercy, but will be in NYC next week as part of a show with 40 Watt Sun at Public Assembly on 9/16.
More shows happening this weekend are listed in Evillive.
The almost-full Suckfest lineup and the show flyer is below.

Rosetta at The Studio at Webster Hall (more by BBG)

Rosetta, Obscura, and The Red Chord will join forces with Municipal Waste and Cynic at Gramercy Theater as part of the Metal Suckfest on November 4th and 5th according to a Facebook post by The Red Chord and a reader tip (thx Eric!). With the three bands, that brings the total tally to five of the twenty locked-in for the two day festival. More details are forthcoming, including ticketing info.

Gaza at Dudefest (photo by Metal Jeff)

Ask anyone who caught them at Dudefest and they'll tell you, Gaza dropped-jaws and killed the crowd at the Indianapolis metal/hardcore festival, inciting on-stage moshpits and even dives into those moshpits. Things got a little looney.
Gaza also released the sinister He Is Never Coming Back in the tail end of last year via Black Market Activities. It was one of my favorite releases of 2009.
That all said, BrooklynVegan and 1000 Knives are proud to present the discordant and destructive Gaza at Cake Shop with the great Tiger Flowers on November 21st. The show is the final day of their tour following a string of dates with The Acacia Strain, The Red Chord, Terror, and The Contortionist.
Full Gaza dates and some video is below.

It's a good thing that Nate Johnson has minty fresh breath!

Much like Shrinebuilder did, The Red Chord added a NYC show (and in their case, a date at New England Metal & Hardcore Fest) in the wake of their European tour cancellation. That show took place in Brooklyn on 4/25 at Public Assembly alongside the return of the fantastic Premonitions of War (with Nick Hale who recently toured with Burnt By The Sun), as well as sets by upstart bludgeoners Tiger Flowers and the riffy punks Descender.
Pics and some video from the 1000Knives/BrooklynVegan grind-fest, as well as current tour dates, are all below.
Baroness @ Bowery Ballroom - 11/20/2009 (more by Tim Griffin)

BBG will publish his own list of the best metal albums of 2009, but in the meantime here's what Decibel Magazine had to say:

Gwar's new album "Lust in Space" was released in August, and theyre' now on tour to support it. That tour ends in NYC with a show at Irving Plaza on December 13th. Tickets are on sale. All dates and some videos of Oderus appearing on Fox and Sirius, below...

Fucked Up @ Culture Shock '08 (more by Leia Jospe)

SUNY Purchase's annual Culture Shock Festival is taking place this year on Friday, April 17th and Saturday, April 18th.
Both headliners for the ninth annual fest will be hip-hop acts. Rapper/actor Drake will end Friday night's show, while Saturday's top act will be the Cool Kids (who are also playing All Points West).
You may remember 2008's Culture Shock as the festival where the mild mannered Canadians in Fucked Up "almost got arrested and their set got cut short" (as one commenter succinctly put it). Hopefully NYHC staples Murphy's Law will help make this year just as memorable (they are playing on Friday).
Culture Shock may or may not be open to the public/non-students -- a fact that sparked much debate last year.
The Tallest Man On Earth, currently on tour from Sweden (and in NYC as we speak), plays the fest on Saturday. Full 2009 line-up below...

Lords... and they're angry! Typocracy)

I bid you good day kind sir and m'lady! May I also say Fuck All Y'all Motherfuckers! That is definitely one album that I have had on blast all this week... the new record by spazzy Louisville hardcore freaks, Lords! Check out "Blasphemy Act" from Fuck All Y'all... currently streaming over at their myspace. Of course it isn't all gravy for dem Kentucky boys. Let's cut to the chase:
Matt Jaha will not be playing bass in the band anymore, and rather than cancel the upcoming tour Eric and I decided to do it as a two piece...I just get some more amps to make up for the bass...Check out the long version for a tale that includes flailing fists, and flying guitar cabinets. The band is searching for a suitable replacement who must "be able to play the songs". Sounds reasonable. Best of luck, my dudes.
The mighty Anaal Nathrakh have finished writing their new album, the follow-up to the critically-lauded Hell is Empty, and All the Devils are Here from 2007! Mick Kenney is currently shaping the songs in the studio and hopes to have V.I.T.R.I.O.L.'s vocals done in February for an album release in June of 2009...
Victims

Deathwish has signed one of my favorite crusty European bands, Victims! Look for the band to re-release Killer on Deathwish later this year.
As we discussed earlier, Jarboe dropped Mahakali while Early Man dropped Beware The Circling Fin on The End Records. Want 'em both? Email BVCONTESTS@HOTMAIL.COM (subject: Early Jarboe) and win one of three sets of BOTH the Early Man EP on 10" vinyl and the Jarboe CD. Include your first and last name, winners will be contacted. Meanwhile, dig on Jarboe's "The House of Void" available for download above.
Whaaa? A surprise Saviours show at The Charleston?
Tickets for the previously mentioned Kreator tour that will swing through Nokia Theater on April 8th go on sale 11/01 at noon.

Neurot Recordings have announced details for THREE Neurosis-related releases in the next two months! First up, a new solo album from the mighty Scott Kelly, who will release The Wake on May 5th, his first release in the seven years since his debut Spirit Bound Flesh. Two weeks later, the world's most intense elementary school teacher Steve Von Till drops A Grave is a Grim Horse, his first non-Harvestman release in six years (Harvestman recently collabo'd with Fear Falls Burning). More details on A Grave Is A Grim Horse can be found here. The third we knew about, but has now gone official: A Storm Of Light's debut And We Wept the Black Ocean Within will be released on June 2nd. Read our recent interview with Josh Graham here.
Tickets for the previously mentioned second At The Gates show go on sale Thursday April 3rd at 10 AM here. Tomas Lindberg's other band, the mighty Disfear, have announced a few more dates, including another show in Brooklyn at Europa on May 22nd with Trap Them and Bloodhorse! Ticket info for Disfear at Europa isn't available, but there are still tickets for their show at the Knitting Factory. New tour dates are down below.

Darkest Hour in Pomona, CA, Feb 14th, 2008 (Mmmmikeyyy)

Darkest Hour has dropped out of the remaining three dates of the "Doomsayers" tour, citing the birth of guitarist Kris Norris's first child. That means that tonight's show @ Blender Theater in NYC (Feb 29) and tommorrow's in Allentown,PA (March 1) will now be headlined by The Red Chord. The DC date @ 9:30 on March 2nd has been cancelled altogether.
Thankfully, badasses Cephalic Carnage is still on board for both dates, as well as Whitechapel and Emmure.

Mastodon @ Brooklyn Masonic Temple, NYC (Kid Swinging) (more about that)

converge @ nuvolari libera tribù, 20/07/07, cuneo (italy) Charlie Cravero

Converge. Baroness. The Red Chord. Genghis Tron. Coliseum. No, this isn't a list of the best heavy albums of the past two years.... it's a list of bands that are going on tour... TOGETHER. Dubbed "The Lambs For Lions", Converge has announced the initial dates for their freight train of a tour in 2008. They play Blender/Gramercy Theater in NYC on April 1st - tickets are not on sale yet.
Independent of that, Genghis Tron will embark on their own merry jaunt, with a stop at SXSW, and one in Brooklyn on March 1st with Aa, Ponytail & Shooting Spires. All Converge dates below...
