Agalloch at MHOW in 2012 (more by Wyatt Marshall)
Agalloch
Agalloch

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows, but here are some highlights...

Agalloch, Jex Thoth @ Irving Plaza
Portland, OR atmospheric metal greats Agalloch returned with their fifth album this year, The Serpent & the Sphere, another gem and a heavier and more metallic effort than its predecessor. Doom traditionalists Jex Thoth open this Invisible Oranges-presented show, and their set should not be missed.

Beck @ Hammerstein Ballroom
Beck put out his twelfth album this year, Morning Phase, which is his first in six years and he considers it the "companion piece" to 2002's Sea Change. His tour in support of it hits NYC for his first of two shows this week, tonight.

Radioactivity, Bad Sports, Nancy @ Baby's All Right
The Marked Men were here not long ago for some rare shows of their killer garage punk. It remains to be seen when they'll return, but related band Radioactivity (or, The Novice) keep up their style pretty well. Their tourmates Bad Sports (fronted by OBN IIIs singer Orville Neely) are not to miss either.

King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, Alix Brown (DJ Set) @ Baby's All Right
Travel back to 1967 with Australian psych band King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard who squeeze in this one last NYC show (they've already played about 349053954) before they head home. Don't fret too much about them leaving though, they're already scheduled to return in October.

The Disfunction, Born Cages, Video Video, The Green Seed, Not Tonight Josephine @ Pianos
For folks who think the '90s was Golden Age of hip hop, Birmingham, Alabama group The Green Seed recalls the days of De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, Black Star and more. Check out their video for "Jude Law" below.

Beat Connection, Zella Day, Tomboy, The TonTons @ Brooklyn Bowl
Now on Mondays, the It's a School Night series brings Pacific Northwest dance duo Beat Connection and Houston's The TonTons in (which a couple other bands as well) for a night of free music -- with RSVP of course.

Tilts, States & Kingdoms, The Brought Low @ Cake Shop
It's a great night for "members of" bands at Cake Shop tonight with the Torche-related Tilts (who are not far removed from Torche's stoner pop) and Thursday/Rival Schools-related State & Kingdoms.

Counting Crows, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Daniel and the Lion @ Central Park Summerstage
'90s nostalgia is all the rage, and you can get yours on tonight with Counting Crows and Toad the Wet Sprocket at Central Park Summerstage.

Cult of Fire, Sargeist, Icon of Phobos, Witchblood, Sein Und Zelt @ Saint Vitus
Martyrdoom III, the third annual five-day metal festival at Brooklyn's Saint Vitus, is on day 4 with excellent international black metal from Cult of Fire and Sargeist, and more.

Donovan Wolfington, Infinity Girl, Pope, Washer @ Shea Stadium
Donovan Wolfington make scrappy punk/indie with shoutalong parts ready-made for college basement shows. While Shea isn't exactly that, the all-ages DIY space is still the kind of room you'll want to see this band in.

Movement @ The Westway
Australia's Movement are another group tackling the whole "indie-R&B" thing, and appropriately they've worked with Weeknd collaborator Illangelo on their EP which is out now. Tonight's their second of two NYC shows on their current US tour.

Night Train with guest Seaton Smith @ Littlefield
Wyatt Cenac's weekly Night Train comedy show continues tonight with guest host Seaton Smith. Among tonight's guests is the very funny and also musically inclined Dave Hill, as well as Mike Lawrence, Michelle Buteau, Nate Fernald and Chris Thayer.

For all of tonight's shows, and tomorrow's, check out our NYC concert calendar.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
