Underachievers

Trippy Brooklyn rap duo The Underachievers have been playing around their hometown for a while now, and they've now announced that they'll go on their first headlining tour of North America this spring. It's called the "Eyes of the World" Tour and features support from Denzel Curry and Dillon Cooper. The tour kicks off in Boston on April 2 and culminates in their hometown with their largest headlining NYC gig yet on May 15 at Irving Plaza. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (2/14) at 10 AM with Live Nation and Music Geeks presales starting Wednesday (2/12) at 10 AM. All dates are listed below.

The Underachievers are planning to release their debut album, The Cellar Door, this spring. No official details on release date or tracklist yet, but you can check out the recent video for single "N.A.R.B.S. Midnight Augusto," along with the list of tour dates, below...

NYC druggy rap duo The Underachievers play around their hometown a lot, and they've announced that their next show is a free one happening on Saturday (1/18) at Villain (50 N. 3rd St in Brooklyn) with Roofeeo. It's the afterparty for a Vice/North Face screening, and RSVP is open now.

Still no word on their new album, but you can watch a video of a song that's supposed to appear on it, below...

Matthew E White

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows. Here are some highlights...

Joey Bada$$, Ab-Soul, The Underachievers, Chevy Woods, Cashius Green w/ Pheo, June and Minty @ Best Buy Theater
The Smokers Club Tour descends upon NYC tonight for what will be an all-around very fun rap show. It's the hometown stop on the tour for Joey Bada$$ and The Underachievers, and though Ab-Soul's from the opposite coast, he shares their knack for adding a dose of weirdness and psychedelia to the genre.

Lauryn Hill @ Bowery Ballroom (early and late)
Neo-soul great Lauryn Hill has a short December tour coming up, but before that she does this one night stand (but two shows) at Bowery Ballroom. Tickets are expensive ($100 to be exact), but it's a good chance to catch her back in action in an intimate environment.

Matthew E. White @ Rough Trade
Matthew E White's Big Inner came in at #3 on Rough Trade Shops' year end list, so it's no giant surprise to see him playing this free in-store at the NYC shop's opening week. 7 PM, free, no wristbands needed.

Frank Turner And The Sleeping Souls, The Smith Street Band, Koo Koo Kanga Roo @ Terminal 5
British folk punk Frank Turner just keeps getting bigger, and tonight he returns to NYC to headline the huge Terminal 5. If you're going to this show, it's also worth catching Melbourne's The Smith Street Band, who are similarly folk punk, but also have a bit of Frightened Rabbit's broken-hearted honesty and drunkenness worked in. Stream their Don't Fuck With Our Dreams EP below.

Exclamation Pony, Rey Pila, Reputante @ The Bowery Electric
Ryan Jarman of The Cribs' side project, Exclamation Pony, has blossomed into an at least somewhat serious band, putting out a single this year -- which you can stream below. They play tonight with Mexico City band Rey Pila.

Slayer, Gojira, 4ARM @ The Theatre @ MSG
Slayer may not have their classic lineup, with Dave Lombardo out and Jeff Hanneman having passed away (RIP), but they're moving forward nonetheless. For this tour, they're promising "old school" sets, which means they'll be focusing on material solely from their first five albums. And get there early for French death metallers Gojira, who are always worth seeing too.

For all of tonight's shows, and tomorrow's, check out our full NYC show calendar.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.

Underachievers

NYC rap duo The Underachievers released the very solid Indigoism mixtape earlier this year, and since followed it with "The Proclamation," a new single that's supposed to be on their upcoming album. Still no word on that album, but the guys did just drop another new mixtape, The Lords of Flatbush. Stream it in full below, and download it for free over at livemixtapes.

The Underachievers will be playing a hometown show this weekend at The Paper Box on Sunday (9/1), which is $5 with RSVP or $10 at the door.

They're also set to play Philly's Made In America Festival this weekend with Beyonce, Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age, A$AP Rocky, Kendrick Lamar, Cloud Nothings and more; and will head out on the Smokers Club Tour with Ab-Soul, Joey Bada$$ and others this fall. That tour hits New Haven and Philly, but doesn't include any NYC dates at the moment.

Cloud Nothings at BV-SXSW 2013 (more by Sarah Frankie Linder)
Cloud Nothings

As discussed, the Jay Z-curated Budweiser Made In America Festival is returning this weekend to Philly's Benjamin Franklin Parkway (8/31-9/1), and the mostly pop/rap/R&B festival just got a little more, um... punk. Aside from the fact that it already included The Gaslight Anthem (who are pretty much a festival regular by now anyway), the lineup now includes Cloud Nothings, Restorations, Balance & Composure, The Front Bottoms, Diarrhea Planet, PUJOL, and more. And you thought it was weird when Jay Z saw Grizzly Bear.

UPDATE: And one more: Wavves was added to the TBA slot on Sunday.

Other non-punk additions that have happened since we last spoke include Rudimental and The Underachievers. The full schedule was also recently announced, and you can check that out below.

Many of the artists playing Made In America also have NYC or NJ shows this weekend (or soon after), including The Front Bottoms, Diarrhea Planet, Rudimental, The Underachievers, Kendrick, Ab Soul & Jay Rock, AlunaGeorge, Haim, and 2 Chainz.

Also, a number of the artists playing will be in NYC later this year to play Jay Z's stomping grounds, Barclays Center, including Phoenix, Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age, and Beyonce.

Joey Bada$$ at NXNE 2013 (more by David Andrako)
Joey Bada$$

The Smokers Club Tour (which has previously included artists like Curren$y, Big K.R.I.T., Smoke DZA and more) is returning this year with a new lineup co-headlined by Black Hippy's Ab-Soul and Pro Era's Joey Bada$$. The rest of the Pro Era crew will be on the tour too, as will Joey's Beast Coast tourmates The Underachievers. It also features Chevy Woods, Cashius Green w/ Pheo, June, Minty Burnes, Shortstop, and Uiie P. All dates, including shows in New Haven and Philly, are listed below.

Though the tour doesn't currently include any NYC dates, you can catch The Underachievers in NYC when they play a Couch Sessions show at The Paper Box on Sunday (9/1) with Sango, Kendra Morris and many more. Admission is $5 with RSVP or $10 at the door. More info on that show here.

Ab-Soul will also be in NYC to open for his Black Hippy crewmate Kendrick Lamar when he plays Williamsburg Park on September 10. That show also includes another Black Hippy member, Jay Rock, and young upcoming Brooklyn rapper Bishop Nehru (who we caught opening for Ab-Soul earlier this year). Tickets for that show are still available.

Joey also just offered his response to Kendrick Lamar's "Control" verse with his song "Killuminati Pt. 2." Listen to that, along with the list of all Smokers Club Tour dates, the tour flyer, and other song streams, below...

Underachievers

NYC Brainfeeder-afilliated rap duo The Underachievers released their impressive Indigoism mixtape earlier this year, and they're now working on its followup. The first single from that is a track called "The Proclamation," which prominently samples The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter." You can watch the video for that song below.

The Underachievers have an upcoming hometown show happening on August 20 at Santos Party House with CJ Fly of Joey Bada$$'s crew Pro Era, Dillon Cooper, and Danse Daimons (of Brooklyn Stickup). Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (7/19) at 10 AM.

We already posted Deniro Farrar pictures, and pictures of the rest of the show are in this post.

NXNE

While Bonnaroo is happening in Tennessee and Northside is going down here in Brooklyn, up in Toronto, ON it's time again for NXNE. Much like SXSW, the festival spans film, interactive, comedy and art, but the music portion runs tonight (6/12) and runs through Sunday (6/16) at various venues all over city. The centerpieces are the free big concerts thrown at Younge Dundas Square. This year's Social Distortion on Thursday (6/13), The National on Friday (6/14), Billy Talent on Saturday (6/15), and Ludacris with Joey Bada$$, Deniro Farrar, The Underachievers, Fat Tony, and more on Sunday (6/16).

Our friends at M for Montreal are throwing two parties at NXNE. The first is at Sneaky Dee's on Friday with with Mauves, Webster, UN, Brazos, plus Julian Lynch and The Luyas who are on a collaborative tour (that plays Northside too). There's also a "special guest" at 2 AM and for the real partiers, Psyche Tounge at 3 AM.

Then on Saturday (6/15) its the Panache Booking and M for Montreal Bruise Cruise (which they did last year too) with Mikal Cronin, We are Wolves, Odonis Odonis and Fat Tony... on a boat! Flyer for both parties is below.

There are over 1000 acts playing NXNE this year, including Fucked Up, Dan Deacon, Villagers, Still Corners, FLAG, Mikal Cronin, Calexico, Why?, Merchandise, just to name a new -- check out the full NXNE schedule. BV photographer David Andrako will be there covering the action so look for pictures in the coming days.

Sloan, who moved from Halifax, NS to Toronto a long time ago, are celebrating the 21st anniversary of their label, murderecords, with a party at Great Hall on Friday June 14. Sloan will perform the entirety of their first EP, Peppermint, which was the label's innagural release, The Super Friendz (which at times included Sloan's Chris Murphy) and and Mike O'Neill who some of you may remember from his '90s band The Inbreds. There's also a limited-edition box set of murderecords 12 7" singles they released in the '90s that will come with a commemorative book. Only 500 of these are being made and will go on sale next week via Sloan's Website. Sloan, you may remember, also recently released a hardcore tribute 7". You can check out a video about the murderecords box set, along with a flyer for the NXNE party, below.

In addition to those free shows (and the other ones we mentioned above), there's a bunch of other shows we're looking forward to at NXNE. Take a look at what those are, and where/when you can see them, below...

Captain Murphy

As mentioned, Janelle Monae collaborator Erykah Badu (under the name DJ Low Down Loretta Brown) is coming to NYC during the Red Bull Music Academy residency to DJ a Brainfeeder Session at Music Hall of Williamsburg on Tuesday (4/30), which is now sold out. We hinted at Flying Lotus being a special guest at that show, but we just found out it's arguably more exciting than that. He'll be there, but not for a Flying Lotus set. Instead, he'll be making the NYC debut of his rap project Captain Murphy. Plus, the bill will include rap duo The Underachievers (who play a free show in June), Teebs, Azizi Gibson, and PBDY.

We're also giving away tickets to the Flying Lotus shows at Terminal 5, which are also part of the Red Bull Music Academy residency.

Official BV Showcase @ Maggie Mae's, March 15th, 2013
Official BV Showcase @ Maggie Mae's, March 15th, 2013

When we weren't throwing free day parties and bridge shows at SXSW last week, we were busy throwing nighttime official showcases. On Saturday (3/16), our metal blog Invisible Oranges put on a showcase at North Door and on Friday, we put on a showcase on Maggie Mae's rooftop which was mainly hip hop and electronic with 3421, Mykki Blanco, Man Without Country, Giraffage, The Underachievers, Pictureplane, Brooke Candy, Zebra Katz, and XXYYXX. With so much rock in our day parties, we wanted to mix it up at night and had a ton of fun doing it. Bonus points for the view from venue down onto the 6th Street mayhem,.

3421, who since played NYC shows at Merc and Knit, came all the way from Israel to kick off the Friday night show with a set of their live dubstep. They were the perfect beginning for the crowd who immediately started to fill the 400-capacity room/roof as soon as doors opened, though 3421 work latenight too. That's when we saw them in Tel Aviv over the summer as part of the Jerusalem Music Conference. That time they were the last act of the night and got the drunk crowd moving with help from bombastic MC Miss Red. Miss Red was originally supposed to play with 3421 at SXSW too, but instead she watched this show from the audience (#majorbummer), With her at the show was The Bug who she was playing SXSW with instead (you can catch Miss Red & The Bug in NYC this weekend).

3421 were followed by NYC rapper Mykki Blanco, who was in his usual abrasive mode on stage, which we and the crowd were loving. Then things cooled down a bit for a shoegazey set by Wales' Man Without Country and the chill electronica of Giraffage. (He really caught our ear when he remixed Alice Deejay's "Better Off Alone." Is it cool to like that song in 2013? I hope so.)

Then for the next five acts, the show was on a total high. NYC rap duo The Underachievers were totally on point and started really getting the dancing going, including a bunch of their friends on stage and Pictureplane, who was up next. Like Mykki Blanco, we've seen him at shows and parties in NYC for a while now, and it was great to see him bring his always-fun set to Austin too. He stuck around for more of the show too, and also loved Brooke Candy and Zebra Katz as much as we did. Brooke's outfit was tamer than in her video (she did have a see-through top though), but she paid more attention to her rapper side than her stripper side at the show (not a bad thing). The crowd went completely nuts for her. Frank says:

The Tumblr princess-turned-stripper-turned-rapper turned heads at the Brooklyn Vegan showcase, clad in a white fishnet top and latex peplum skirt. The Los Angeles-based rapper played a short but high-energy set, swinging her crazy long braids (and huge boobs) all over the stage. After going viral via World Star Hiphop and the internet in general, Candy has released video after video for her aggressive, sex-heavy tracks. Joined by best friend and DJ, Jesse St. John, Brooke's crowd of homo-cyber-hipster kids screamed along to every word. Hits "Das Me," "I Wanna Fuck Right Now," and "Everybody Does" dominated her 20-minute set, as she twerked in her platforms, fueling the fire that is her online presence with more and more YouTube-worthy content.
Zebra Katz and flexible collaborator Njena Reddd Foxxx played hit "Ima Read". Silly? Maybe a bit, but like the rest of their set, a total hit live.

The show wrapped up with XXYYXX and for such a young producer (he's 17!), he really knows how to get the party started. The stage filled with people a few songs into his set and everyone was just dancing and going nuts until the club pulled the plug at 2am. Frank says:

Seventeen-year-old XXYYXX headlined the Brooklyn Vegan showcase on the Maggie Mae's rooftop. Despite only recently beginning to tour, the producer was relaxed, barefoot, and very much in his element while onstage playing a combination of his signature chill-out-and-vibe beats, and more hyped up hip-hop remixes including TLC's "No Scrubs" and Waka Flocka's "Fuck This Industry." Following suit with the mellow vibe of the Orlando based producer's music, the security eased up and allowed any crowd member who was feeling it to hop onstage.
The whole show was a blast and we hope everyone who came had as much as we did.

Check out some songs played at the show in our Best of SXSW Spotify playlist. More pictures from the party below...

Savages @ CMJ 2012 (more by Dominick Mastrangelo)
Savages

SXSW gets underway today (3/13) in earnest, with 83,207 bands* playing SXSW this year. Trying to figure out who to see can be an overwhelming feeling. (Actually, just standing on 6th St. on Friday night is an overwhelming feeling.) Hopefully this post will give you some inspiration if you're among the throngs of people. Or maybe just some new stuff to listen to if you're not there.

Of course you could just hang out at all our day parties (our first starts at noon today!) and evening showcases, as we're really proud of our line-ups. But there are bands who we are pumped to see who aren't playing too. So here are 40 bands we're genuinely pumped to see in Austin this week. We made a Spotify playlist of all the bands (at least the ones on the service) you can stream below.

Check out our list below...

*not the actually number of showcasing bands. But it feels accurate.

FBZ & UA

The Underachievers and Flatbush Zombies are about to kick off a tour together supporting Joey Bada$$, which begins with all three artists in Austin for SXSW this week. And those two groups have just teamed up for a collaborative track, "No Religion." The Underachievers and Flatbush Zombies are a good fit to work together -- they both love charismatically rapping about drugs over blown out production. On "No Religion" they don't talk too much about drugs, but what they do talk about is pretty great ("Stop trying to be Tupac, try and be better," I mean someone had to say it) and the rest of what usually makes those groups great is there. Listen to the track below (via Stereogum).

The Underachievers also recently freestyled and talked about Flying Lotus for Pitchfork.tv's "Selector." You can watch that video below. While they're in Austin for SXSW, The Underachievers play the BrooklynVegan Official Showcase on Friday (3/15) at Maggie Mae's Rooftop at 11 PM.

The 2013 BrooklynVegan official SXSW showcase (the one that isn't a metal show or a Red Cross Syria benefit) will take place on Friday, March 15 at Maggie Mae's Rooftop (323 E. 6th Street in Austin, TX). SXSW badges are welcome, and we'll also have some general admission tickets for sale at the door (come early!).

The lineup this year, as you can see in the flyer below, leans toward the dancier side of things, with a headlining 1 AM set from Orlando downtempo artist XXYYXX, who was recently in NYC for two sold out shows at 285 Kent. Before him, there will be sets by 3421, who are bringing their live-band dubstep over to Austin all the way from Israel, a set by manic NYC rapper Mykki Blanco, electro-shoegazers Man Without Country, R&B-indebted producer Giraffage, Brainfeeder-affiliated rappers The Underachievers (whose free mixtape, Indigoism, is out now), the synth pop of Pictureplane, rapper/stripper/Grimes collaborator Brooke Candy, and finally, Zebra Katz, who you know best for "Ima Read.". Though (the show is in a week), it didn't all finally fall in place until last minute, this one was fun to put together.

To make it even more of a party, we'll have wearable "social lighting" available courtesy of Illuminode. The lights, which people will get to try on when they walk in the door, sync with the music (first come, first served on those, but you can always grab one when someone returns theirs too).

The show begins at 8 PM and as noted above is one of three official BrooklynVegan nighttime events at SXSW, including the one the same night with Omar Souleyman, Black Lips, Deer Tick, and more; and the official BrooklynVegan/Invisible Oranges metal showcase on Saturday (3/16) with Pallbearer, John Baizley (Baroness), and more. We also have four days of day parties (March 13-16, full lineups coming soon!).

As is usually the case with SXSW, many of the bands on our showcase are stopping by NYC for shows before and after SXSW also. As mentioned, 3421 plays Mercury Lounge on 3/20, Man Without Country plays Pianos (tonight, 3/7) and Knitting Factory (3/9), Giraffage plays 88 Palace on 3/9 with JETS. And Mykki Blanco and Pictureplane always have stuff going on in the area too.

See you in Austin.

Joey Bada$$
Joey Bada$$

Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$$ has announced the international "Beast Coast Tour" with fellow Beast Coast associates Flatbush Zombies and The Underachievers, which kicks off in Austin at SXSW and continues into early May. The tour hits NYC on April 20 at Gramercy Theater (note: the date has been announced as 4/21 in other places, but as you can see on Live Nation, the venue is hosting Paganfest USA that day) (UPDATE: The show has been moved to 4/18.)

Tickets for that show are not on sale yet, but you can check Ticketmaster for updates. You may remember that all three artists on the tour previously teamed up in NYC for a Red Bull Music Academy/Boiler Room show in October during Flying Lotus' NYC takeover.

Before SXSW, Joey's crew Pro Era is playing a NYC show billed as CJ Fly & Pro Era at Public Assembly on March 6 with Wordspit, Dyme-A-Duzin, and many others. Tickets for that show are on sale now. No official word on whether or not Joey will be there, but he hates when people say "Joey Bada$$ and Pro Era", so maybe the CJ Fly (another Pro Era member) billing is meant as a play on that? The flyer for this show is below.

When the tour ends, Joey has a few festival dates scheduled, including The Roots Picnic in Philly. All dates are listed below.

Joey Bada$$ has been dropping tracks and videos left and right lately. Back in January, he released his single for Mountain Dew's Green Label Sound, which was a collaboration with DJ Premier called "Unorthodox." Then he followed that with a video with Smoke DZA for "Gotham Fucking City" off DZA's K.O.N.Y. tape, a diss track aimed at Lil B (in response to Lil B's diss to him), and another video with Smoke DZA, which also features Big K.R.I.T., for "Underground Airplay" off the Ecko Unlimited mixtape of the same name. You can stream/watch all of those songs/videos below.

Indigoism

Meanwhile, The Underachievers just released the free Indiogism mixtape on Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder label. You can download the mixtape for free at DatPiff and stream it in its entirety below.

Jacques Renault
Jacques Renault

Pitchfork posted a story yesterday on The New Electronic Brooklyn Underground, where they highlighted the thriving dance parties, labels, and producers that have been coming up in Brooklyn for a few years now and have been experiencing even greater success lately. Some of what they highlighted, like record label UNO and especially their artist Mykki Blanco, have been working their way up so much, they may not even be able to be considered "underground" anymore.

Mykki Blanco is also part of NYC's rising underground rap scene, and along with Angel Haze, CJ Fly, Kirk Knight, and The Underachievers, Mykki is being featured in Spit Gold Under An Empire, a new documentary on the NY rap scene directed by Montreal's Emily Kai Bock, who directed Grimes' "Oblivion" video (via FACT). You can watch the trailer video below.

But back to the electronic stuff. UNO is also responsible for putting out releases by other great artists like Jacques Greene, CFCF, Fatima Al Qadiri, Arca, Gobby, and more. Jacques Greene, who resides in Montreal, is on tour of the US now and he'll be in NYC for a show on February 9 at 88 Palace with Dark Disco and Martyn. All Jacques Greene dates are listed below.

Another party highlighted in the Pitchfork article was Let's Play House, which is a party run by Jacques Renault (not to be confused with Jacques Greene) and Nik Mercer. They've got two upcoming events this month -- first they'll do a free one on January 24 at The Woods (48 S 4 St) with Stockholm producer HNNY (who also plays Le Baron on 1/22 while he's in NYC), and then a co-presented party with The Dog & Pony show at Le Poisson Rouge on January 26 with The Revenge (UK), Mark E, Jacques Renault, and Paul Raffaele (tickets). The flyers for those shows are below. Jacques Renault also has a show tonight (1/18) at The Counting Room (44 Berry St) with Miss Sabado and Son of Sound. Admission is $10 at the door or $5 with RSVP to resonate@misssabado.com.

Justin Carter and Eamon Harkin
Mister Saturday Night

The article also highlights the Mister Saturday Night party, which is run by Justin Carter and Eamon Harkin. They have a bunch of parties coming up, and one of the most interesting ones is FaltyDL (who has an album coming out next week) at House of Yes on January 26. More info on that show and a list of all upcoming Mister Saturday NIght events are below.

The article also talks about Aurora Halal's Mutual Dreaming party, which doesn't have any upcoming events at the moment, but you may remember it from the Hieroglyphic Being show at 285 Kent over the summer.

Lists of dates, video, streams, and flyers below...

Meanwhile, four days earlier, Curren$y collaborator/Smokers Club tourmate Smoke DZA will be at the same venue. You can catch DZA at SOB's on December 30 with Vinny Cha$e, Slim Dollars and Kris Kasanova. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Meanwhile, you can catch Vinny Cha$e in NYC this week when he plays Santos Party House on Thursday (12/20) with Chief Keef collaborator Lil Reese, The Underachievers, and Asaad. Meka (2DBZ) and OG Cha$e B are Djing. No advance tickets for this one but doors are at 10 PM and admission is $15.

Speaking of upcoming SOB's shows, Robert Glasper & friends are playing two shows at the venue (early and late) on January 10. Tickets for both shows are on sale now.

As mentioned, Talib Kweli plays a full band show at SOB's on January 20 in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King and Gil Scott Heron. Tickets for that show are still available.

In more hip hop news, Ratking are playing Mercury Lounge on February 1. Tickets for that show go on sale today at noon.

That party was supposed to happen today at Delinquency but that venue has since been shut down so the whole lineup (minus The Underachievers and Party Supplies) is merging with the Young One Records showcase, which happens tonight (10/17) at 285 Kent. That showcase, in addition to including the names mentioned above, will have Main Attrakionz, Kool AD, Deniro Farrar, Supreme Cuts, Cities Aviv, Bryant Dope, Ryan Hemsworth, and CBG. SAFE and Ryan Hemsworth are DJing between sets, the rest of the acts are playing live. The show flier and set times are below.

That 285 Kent show is a pretty stacked bill for hip hop, and if you're into stacked hip hop shows like that one, you'll also probably want to check out the Mass Appeal party at Gramercy on Friday (10/19) with Asher Roth, Prodigy (of Mobb Deep), The Alchemist, Large Professor, Mr. Muthafuckin' exquire, Roc Marciano, Boldy James, Ninja Sonik, Bodega Bamz, Alexander Spit, Angel Haze and Timeless Youth. That one's free with RSVP to RSVP@massappeal.com but entry is based on capacity. The flier for this show is below.

As mentioned, Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire also plays SOB's on Thursday (10/18) and an MTV Studio at Webster Hall the same day. That studio show is with Big K.R.I.T. and LE1F, and when we first mentioned it, a "special guest" was billed who has since been revealed as Killer Mike. Tickets for that one are still available.

That MTV show is an early show (5:30 doors) and after that there's a late show with Chuck Inglish (of The Cool Kids), Ninjasonik, ASAP TyY, Blvckalfred, Vault Boys, MopTop, Chase N Cashe, GDP, Vyle, and Curtains. Tickets for that one are still available.

Cities Aviv, in addition to the Young One show, has other CMJ shows, including the Flowerbooking CMJ showcase at Knitting Factory on Friday (10/19) with Unicorn Kid, Ki:Theory, Devin, Ghost Wave, and Talk Normal (tickets) and the Bond Music Group/PopGun show at Cameo Gallery on Friday (10/19) (late show) with Steven A. Clark, Lushlife, Dark Sister, and Pegasus Warning (tickets).

He also plays the free BrooklynVegan day party at Public Assembly on Saturday (10/20) with The Orwells, Eternal Summers, and the rest of the lineup coming soon!

While we're talking about good hip hop shows during CMJ, don't forget the Converse Rubber Tracks/Fool's Gold 5th anniversary show at Music Hall of WIlliamsburg on Saturday (10/20) with Ghostface Killah, A-Trak, Flosstradamus, Donnis, Nick Catchdubs, World's Fair, Troy Ave, and special guests. That one's totally free, first come, first served.

Showcase flier and set times for the Young One/Mobli show are below.

Flying Lotus @ Terminal 5, 10/7/2012
Flying Lotus

Flying Lotus wrapped up his NYC takeover on Wednesday with the Brainfeeder showcase at Villain. That showcase was headlined by The Gaslamp Killer, who was supporting his new album, Breatkthrough, and it also featured Martyn, Dorian Concept, Jeremiah Jae, Taylor McFerrin, and The Underachievers. FlyLo didn't play a set but he was in attendance and you can see him on stage with Gaslamp Killer, along with other pictures from the showcase, below.

The NYC takeover also featured a "Meet the Musician" event at Apple Store SoHo, a Boiler Room set, an appearance at Warp's booth at the Brooklyn Flea Record Fair, and a sold out headlining show at Terminal 5 on 10/7 with members of his Brainfeeder crew in tow (including opener Thundercat). Pics from the T5 show are in this post as well.

Flying Lotus will return to NYC during CMJ for a one-off at Le Poisson Rouge on October 17 with Death Grips, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and Buke & Gase. That show is RSVPed out and we're not sure if they're taking any badges, but the show isn't listed on the CMJ schedule, so no promises.

With SBTRKT's show last night and FlyLo's show from Sunday, there's been no shortage of great electronic shows at Terminal 5 lately. Plus, shows coming up there include Major Lazer, Pictureplane, and Brenmar on 10/27 and Squarepusher, Bonobo, Holy Fuck, and Mount Kimbie on 11/1. More pics from FlyLo's T5 show and the Brainfeeder showcase at Villain are below.

FlyLo @ T5, 10/7/2012 (via @corneliuslives)

Flying Lotus played Terminal 5 last night (10/7) as part of his NYC Takeover and you can watch video of his T5 performance at the bottom of this post. The takeover also included a stop at the Warp Records booth at the Brooklyn Flea Record Fair on Saturday (10/6) and continues on with a Boiler Room NYC performance tonight (10/8, guest list only but can be streamed live) with Questlove, Flatbush Zombies, Just Blaze, Joey Bada$$ & Pro Era, and The Underachievers; and a visit to the Apple SoHo store on Tuesday (10/9) and more.

Additionally, on Wednesday (10/10) there is the Brainfeeder Session NYC show at Villain in Williamsburg that features The Gaslamp Killer, Martyn, Dorian Concept, Jeremiah Jae, Taylor McFerrin, The Underachievers and "very special guests." Could FlyLo be that special guest? That show is free but you do need to RSVP (which is now open).

Additionally, he'll be here next week for CMJ for a show at Le Poisson Rouge on October 17 with Death Grips.

Video from Flying Lotus' Terminal 5 show is below.

"Its good to see NYC come out every time i perform. That shit is dope." - Action Bronson

Action Bronson and a bag of weed at MHOW in August (more by Ryan Muir)
Action Bronson

Remember how we just said that Action Bronson continues to give NYC many chances to see him? Well he's keeping that up. After just playing a show with RL Grime last Friday (9/28), Bronson announced that he'll play a free Scion A/V-presented show in the front room of Public Assembly on October 10 with Jonwayne, Party Supplies, and DJ Getlive. The show is free but RSVP is strictly required. The flier for this show is below. Not very surprisingly, it's also been announced that his Highline Ballroom show (10/30) with Cypress Hill is part of a larger tour the two acts will go on together this fall. All dates are listed below.

Action Bronson associate Meyhem Lauren (who he shared a bill with at MHOW in August) has an upcoming Public Assembly show (10/25) too. His is with Lakutis, Big Baby Ghandi, Spit Gemz, Timeless Truth, Gee Dubs, Eff Yoo, and DJ Uneek. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Tanya Morgan, who was also on that MHOW show, have a show at Public Assembly (10/23) too, two days before the Meyhem Lauren show. That one's a co-headlining show with rapper/producer Oddisee, who Tanya Morgan has played with before, and who released the album, People Hear What They See over the summer (stream it at SPIN). Support on that show comes from The Doppelgangaz, Mr. Mag, and Gotham Green, along with a DJ set by DJ Tara and it's being hosted by Dee Phunk. Tickets are on sale now. It takes place just after CMJ, which Oddisee is scheduled to play, though no shows have been announced yet as of this post. All Oddisee dates are listed below.

That famed MHOW show was rounded out by Flatbush Zombies, who were joined by A$AP Rocky and in turn joined him at his Roseland Ballroom show last week (9/27). Flatbush Zombies don't have a Public Assembly show coming up, but they do have a Noisey: Acid Alumni CMJ show happening at Santos Party House on October 17 with Children of the Night, Haleek Maul, Bodega Bamz (who also joined Rocky at that Roseland show), and The Underachievers (who will be taking part in Flying Lotus' NYC takeover). That show is free with RSVP. The flier is below.

Roc Marciano - Reloaded
Reloaded

In more related news, Action Bronson/Meyhem Lauren associate Roc Marciano will release his new album, Reloaded, on November 13 via Decon. The album was mostly self-produced, but also includes a few tracks produced by The Alchemist (whose album featured Roc, plus Action Bronson, Meyhem Lauren, and many others), plus tracks produced by Q-Tip, Ray West, The Arch Druids, and guest spots from Ka and Knowledge Pirate. That's the cover art above (via HipHopDX), and you can check out tracklist and stream the tracks "76" and "I Shot The King" (from the deluxe edition) below. He's also in the process of shooting a video for "76."

All lists of dates, song streams and more are below.

Flying Lotus at Coachella 2012 (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
Flying Lotus

Flying Lotus is about to welcome his new album, Until the Quiet Comes next week (10/2) via Warp. As the album title implies, it's a "quieter" record than the maximalist Cosmogramma, but it's just as fleshed out and compelling. You can stream the album ahead of its release date at NPR. The video for "Putty Boy Strut" can be watched below.

As mentioned, FlyLo will be supporting the album with a tour that hits NYC on October 7 at Terminal 5 with Thundercat and other Brainfeeder artists. Tickets for that show are still available. That's the first date club date on his tour, but he's since revealed that the tour will kick off with a "take over" of LA and NYC surrounding that date.

In NYC, he'll appear at the Warp booth at the Brooklyn Flea Record Fair on October 6, where he'll be signing copies of his new album. That's free and the booth will be open from 11 AM to 6 PM. The day after the T5 show, he'll play a Red Bull Music Academy Takeover for Boiler Room NYC (10/8) with a great lineup of Questlove, Flatbush Zombies, Just Blaze, Joey Bada$$ & Pro Era, and The Underachievers. That show is guest list only but you can watch it live at boilerroom.tv. On October 9 he'll partake in the "Meet the Musician" series at Apple Store SoHo where he'll give a talk and also perform. That show runs from 6-8 PM and is free but space is very limited.

Lastly, he'll do two events on October 10, including the East Village Radio Takeover, where Flying Lotus and Brainfeeder artists Gaslamp Killer, Martyn, Dorian Concept, Jeremiah Jae, Taylor McFerrin, and The Underachievers will take over two hours of air time on East Village Radio from 2-4 PM to preview their showcase which happens later that night at new Brooklyn venue Villain (50 North 3 St). That show is also presented by the Red Bull Music Academy and features the same lineup (UPDATE: FlyLo is not confirmed) as the radio takeover plus "very special guests." No ticket info for this show at the moment.

An updated list of Flying Lotus dates and the video for "Putty Boy Strut" are below.
