Phoenix

As mentioned, Phoenix, who are currently touring the west side of the United States, ard bringing their tour to NYC for a show at The Apollo on May 13. Tickets for that intimate show, which were sold through a lottery system, are now sold out, but the band whose last NYC show was at Madison Square Garden will return for a show closer to that size on October 2 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Support at that show comes from The Vaccines and tickets for that show go on sale Friday (4/5) at 10 AM.

You can also catch Phoenix much sooner in New Jersey the day before the Apollo show for WRFF Radio 104.5's 6th Birthday Show at Susquehanna Bank Center (5/12) with Passion Pit, Silversun PIckups, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Airborne Toxic Event, Paramore, and twenty one pilots. Tickets for that show are still on sale.

And though we have to wait until May to see them live in NYC, they'll be here much sooner as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this Saturday (4/6). That happens on their way over to Indio, CA for Coachella, which is less than two weeks away.

Updated dates are listed along with more pictures from Phoenix's Saturday night show in Portland, below...

The Vaccines @ T5 1/31/2012
The Vaccines

"When you're a kid and you see these people in these bands, you think they're these perfect beings beamed down from space," says [Vaccines' frontman Justin] Young. "I definitely don't feel like a different person, but perhaps I'm expected to be. I really didn't want to make a record about being in a band and being a musician. I think that really disconnects you from your audience, because how can anyone relate to being in a band? So I wanted to talk about it from a human perspective, rather than a musician's perspective. I think when you get into your mid 20s, you realize how big and bad the world is and no matter how much you cry over spilled milk, no one is gonna mop it up for you. The world is a cruel place and it's like realizing that." - [Metro US]
UK indie rockers The Vaccines headlined Terminal 5 last night (1/31) as part of their current North American tour. Local band DIIV made a rare NYC appearance as openers. Did you go to the show?

The Vaccines tour rolls on tonight at Washington DC's 9:30 Club. More pics from T5 are below.

Santigold @ Bowery Ballroom, 12/10/2012 (more by David Andrako)
Santigold

As you may have seen last night, HBO's Girls won big at the Golden Globes, grabbing both Best Comedy series and Best Actress for creator/star Lena Dunham. At the same time Dunham was giving her acceptance speech, Season 2 of Girls (now featuring Donald Glover as Hannah's new boyfriend) was making its debut on the pay cable channel.

The soundtrack to Girls just came out last week and one of the songs exclusive to it is Santigold's "Girls." We've got the premiere of its video right here in this post. Shot here in NYC the cool little clip features girls from all walks of life (and all ages) lip-synching to the track and you can watch it below. The Girls soundtrack also features Sleigh Bells, Fleet Foxes, Robyn, Belle & Sebastian and more.

Santigold played Bowery Ballroom back in December and her only upcoming live date is at the House of Blues in Los Angeles on February 9. Video and Girls OST artwork and tracklist below...

The Fly is the "UK's most popular new music magazine," but if you haven't heard of it, its because it's a free monthly that doesn't really get international distribution. You can however read it online. The mag just released it's year-end issue and topping their Best Albums of 2012 is Sharon Van Etten's Tramp (which was just released in a Deluxe edition, a fine Xmas gift don't you know). Sharon narrowly beat out Grimes, whose Visions came in at #2. The whole list, in ascending order, is below and you can read what The Fly said about each album here.

By the way you can still get tickets for the December 15 show at Cameo that Sharon curated with She Keeps Bees and Speck Mountain and "Special Guest."

A list of the Fly's Top 50 Albums of 2012 is below.

"Did y'all peep my Lil boob out with tha pastie today at coachella ?!? That was my Lil Kim moment !" - AZEALIA BANKS

hologram Biggie w/ Black Lips / Azealia Banks / ASAP Rocky @ Coachella Saturday
Coachella 2012 - Second Week Day 2
Coachella 2012 - Second Week Day 2
Coachella 2012 - Second Week Day 2

"For a certain breed of diehard Coachella fan, once is just not enough. And since 2012 is the first year that the epic desert music and arts festival is being mounted twice in Indio, California, it was inevitable that some of the most obsessed would find a way to attend both three-day weekends.

"The Monday after the first one, I was kind of licking my wounds and I said, 'Hey, let's go again! I'm down. I get paid on Friday. It can happen," 28-year-old Carlos Morales, from Fullerton, California, told Rolling Stone yesterday. "Radiohead was a big part of it. They were amazing, and I really wanted to see them again."

Tickets for a single Coachella weekend are hard enough to come by; in recent years, they've typically sold out within days of going on sale, which sparked the motivation for festival organizers Goldenvoice Productions to add an identical second weekend this year. About six percent of festivalgoers who bought tickets online directly from the promoter managed to pick up tickets for both weekends, said Coachella co-founder Paul Tollett. Resales are harder to measure, but last-minute impulse buyers for the second weekend were rewarded with some tickets being sold at below face value.

Alison Swing, 21, of Long Beach, bought her second set of tickets "from a friend of a friend of a friend" and got a $100 discount from the cover price, she said with a laugh. "It was nerve-wracking spending the money," Swing admitted, "but I wanted to go back so bad. I'll deal with it after." [Rolling Stone]

Coachella concludes today, Sunday, 4/22, Earth Day 2012.

You saw the pictures from Friday, a video of the Black Keys performing with John Fogerty, video from a Friday night party that Thom Yorke DJ'd, and Radiohead's setlist from Saturday. Here are the pictures from Saturday, 4/21/2012, Record Store Day, the 2nd day of the 2nd weekend of Coachella 2012.

As you can see in the above picture, The Black Lips paid tribute (if you want to call it that) to hologram Tupac (who should be making another appearance with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg tonight) with their own hologram (actually a cut out) of Biggie Smalls. St. Vincent joined Andrew Bird on stage to help perform "Lusitania." Azealia Banks, in a different looking outfit than last week, apparently suffered a wardrobe malfunction. A$AP Rocky was joined by Master P, Romeo, No Limit and many other friends on stage in the Gobi tent, as he and Radiohead simultaneously closed out the night once again.

More pictures from all of Saturday, and a video from ASAP's guest-filled set, below...

DOWNLOAD: The Drowners - Long Hair (MP3)

The Drowners

We mentioned in passing that local four-piece The Drowners are opening for The Vaccines and Porcelain Raft at Webster Hall on April 23. If you're free tonight (4/17), you can go see them at Pianos for free. They're on at 11:30 and the bill also features Broncho (feat. Ryan Lindsey of Starlight Mints) and NYC band Brothers.

The Drowners don't seem to have been around long (they started their Facebook page last month!) but the two songs posted are pretty good, UK-leaning (singer Matt Hitt is from Wales), breezy guitar pop that recalls the lighter side of the Arctic Monkeys or laid back Californians The Tyde. (Their name makes me think of Suede's debut single.) You can download "Long Hair" at the top of this post (or stream it below) and there's a second song you can stream at their Tumblr.

Tickets for that show go on sale Friday, 4/20 at noon with an AmEx presale starting Wednesday (4/18) at noon.
