Let's be honest, some may claim The White Stripes were basically the Jack White show in disguise (despite shared song credits). With the band in the rearview, Jack White has made it official. He'll release a solo LP via Third Man Records/Columbia on April 24.
Produced by White and recorded at his own Third Man Studio in Nashville, Blunderbuss has been described by White as "an album I couldn't have released until now. I've put off making records under my own name for a long time but these songs feel like they could only be presented under my name. These songs were written from scratch, had nothing to do with anyone or anything else but my own expression, my own colors on my own canvas."But first comes a preview in the form of a 7" from the Raconteurs/Dead Weather member which is on sale digitally TONIGHT (1/30) at midnight EST (technically 1/31 unless you're out west). The actual record is out on 2/7. The song, "Love Interruption" 7" (which will be accompanied by a non-LP B-Side of "Machine Gun Silhouette"), can also be streamed NOW, below...

Conan O'Brien's last show in his old time slot was Friday night. A drumless White Stripes were the musical guest.
Conan won't be gone for long though. He takes over Jay Leno's slot, one hour earlier, on June 1st. Jay Leno airs his final show in his current time slot on May 29th, and then eventually moves to 10 pm on the same station.
Jimmy Fallon takes over Conan's NBC time slot on March 2nd. His house band The Roots take over NYC around the same time. Fallon's guest have started to be announced...
If Jimmy Fallon is nervous about the premiere of his new gig as "Late Night" host, he'll have Robert De Niro and Van Morrison to lean on. They'll be the guests for his March 2 debut hosting the NBC show...NBC says Tina Fey, Jon Bon Jovi, Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Donald Trump and Serena Williams are among other guests scheduled for Fallon's first week. [Vindy.com]
U2 will be the first band to play five nights in a row on Letterman that same week. "Coinciding with the worldwide release of [their new album] No Line on the Horizon, it's the first time a musical guest has performed an entire week on the CBS late night broadcast." That new album is now streaming in its entirety at MySpace.
Van Morrison's Fallon appearance comes soon after his two shows at the Theater at MSG, and right before the two at the Beacon.

The American Music Awards are on tonight, The White Stripes (friends of Beck) are up for Favorite "Alternative Rock Music" Artist. Their competition? Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance (only three artists are nominated in each category). Nickelback, Maroon 5 & Linkin Park are competing for "Favorite Band, Duo or Group". I guess there's no reason to watch that one. Performers include Duran Duran (who were recently affected by the Broadway strike) and Rihanna (who appears on a new disc of Def Jam rarities). Slash (who has a new book out) and Gene Simmons (who doesn't care about Radiohead) are both presenting awards.
Speaking of awards, below you'll find a bunch of videos from the mtvU ones (including one of Spank Rock live-blogging). What else?

The latest news making the rounds is that The White Stripes have announced they recorded a few new songs with Beck.
Papertiger points out why this is not a surprise.....
1. Beck appeared in the Stripes’ video for “The Hardest Button To Button”.2. Beck showed up to play bass on “The Denial Twist” at the Stripes’ show in LA in August 2005.
3. Jack showed up to play guitar with Beck & Smokey Hormel at their show in Detroit in August 2002. They played “99,” “Last Fair Deal Gone Down,” and “Cold Brains.”
4. Jack plays bass on “Go It Alone” on Guero, and they reportedly did a few other songs together then too (but it’s the only one that’s out yet).
5. In a photo gallery on beck.com, Meg was pictured, hanging out with Beck and his band on a boat in Australia (I think in 2003).
6. Beck covered “Black Math” once on stage (a bootleg surfaced of this show, but it has not fallen into the hands of Beck collectors yet).
7. Jack White interviewed Beck once.
"Conquest" details below....

UPDATE The White Stripes say it is not Meg in the tape.

I'd rather not report on this. I feel even worse knowing that the sex tape (link removed) is what might be causing Meg White's ''acute anxiety'. But the Internet is what it is, and if I don't post about it, it will be in the comments anyway - and it will be what everyone is talking about today one way or another (update: it is of course also possible that the tape is not even really her), so consider this the BrooklynVegan forum for talking about it, but please be nice....

The White Stripes' new single"Icky Thump" is available on iTunes now. The whole album called "Icky Thump" is out June 19th. The tour:
This summer The White Stripes will visit their neighbors in the “Great White North” as they embark on a tour of Canada that takes in all 10 provinces, as well as the Yukon, Nunavut and Northwest Territories. The NYC dates is July 24th at Madison Square Garden. Big show.“Having never done a full tour of Canada, Meg and I thought it was high time to go whole hog. We want to take this tour to the far reaches of the Canadian landscape. From the ocean to the permafrost. The best way for us to do that is ensure that we perform in every province and territory in the country, from the Yukon to Prince Edward Island. Another special moment of this tour is the show which will occur in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on July 14th, The White Stripes’ Tenth Anniversary” -Jack White
Following Canada, the band returns to the United States to play the first leg of the 16 states they have yet to visit during their career, as well as a limited number of performances in other markets, including New York City and Boston. Stay tuned for more confirmed dates and check out their complete routing by visiting the “shows” section.
And the Raconteurs are recording. Jack White is a busy guy...
The Raconteurs are in a Nashville recording studio working on the follow-up to their 2006 debut "Broken Boy Soldiers" and hope to have a new album out sometime next year. All tour dates below...The group, which features Jack White of the White Stripes, Brendan Benson, and Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler of The Greenhornes, has been recording at Blackbird Studio in Nashville for a week-and-a-half and currently has 12 songs written, White tells Billboard.com.
