"On set with Cults at their video shoot. Video will be amazing." - The Willowz
Will McLaren w/ Cults @ Ridgwood Masonic Temple (more by Jessica Amaya)

Will McLaren, guitar player in Cults, is also a member of longer-running band The Willowz. Cults started out as as duo. Core Cults member Madeline Follin is the sister of Willowz member Richie James Follin. Core Cults member Brian Oblivion used to be the Willowz tour manager. Madeline met Brian through the Willowz and formed Cults. They then added Will Willowz (and others) to the live band. Quiz later. The two bands are touring France together in June.
The Willowz, who recently played a bunch of shows with Delta Spirit, have more recently been taking part in Hot Hot Heat's month-long residency at Public Assembly including the show that happened last night (a few people I know went and watched it after PiL played right next door). The next show is on May 26th.

Will, besides playing at the upcoming Cults dates (which include a Nortside Fest show and a tour with Maps & Atlases), will be joining Taken by Trees (aka Swedish songwriter Victoria Bergsman) at (Le) Poisson Rouge on Tuesday, May 25th. Other guest musicians at the gig will include Mikael Karlsson (who's worked with Lykke Li) on keyboards, Amy Linton from The Aislers Set on drums, and Elsa Chiao on backup vocals. We have a pair of tickets to give away to the show. Details are below.
Taken By Tree's Victoria is also DJing at the Bell House during Pop Fest this weekend.

Nebula at BV-BBG Day Party during CMJ (more by Paul Birman)

After passing through customs on their return from a European trek, Nebula will take a few weeks away from the road before heading back out in middle March for a string of dates that'll take the band through SXSW, on to Pianos in NYC on 3/27, and out to the West Coast by the middle of April. The Pianos date is just one of a few that the band have lined up with their Tee Pee compadres Quest for Fire after SXSW. Then in Chicago on April 1st they team up with The Willowz and Clutch side project Lionize for the remainder of the west-heading tour. All dates below.
The Willowz meanwhile are in the midst of a tour with Delta Spirit that brings them to Pianos in NYC TONIGHT (2/4) (and to Union Hall Friday, 2/5) (and then to the same two venues a week after that).
Nebula's tour dates include the Tee Pee showcase at SXSW on Thursday, March 18th at Habana Calle 6. The two stage affair will feature appearances from Priestess, Iron Age, Nebula, Naam, Quest For Fire, Kreisor, The Atomic Bitchwax, Sweet Apple (featuring J Mascis), Imaad Wasif, Spindrift, Hopewell, Jason Simon (of Dead Meadow), and The Main Street Gospel.
Sweet Apple will play their first NYC show on April 20th.
Nebula and tourmates Quest for Fire are on the verge of going half on a 7". The release, due March 23rd, will feature artwork by Andre Ethier (The Deadly Snakes) and be limited to 1000 copies. Download Nebula's contribution to that split, "The Perfect Rapture", above.

Delta Spirit @ Bonnaroo '09 (more by Graeme Flegenheimer)

Fans across the country can expect to hear twice as much from San Diego's Delta Spirit in the New Year. The band, who spent the first half of 2009 opening for The Shins, will be headlining their own bills come 2010 as they gear up for the release of their second LP, History from Below, this May. But in what may be a further evidence of a coming decade of music biz frugality practicality, the boys behind all that jingly, feelgood Americana are bowing out of a lower 48 push and playing just small venues in major cities -- twice apiece with a week to simmer in between sets. [Culture Mob]The full dates of The Delta Spirit's uniquely sequenced tour are below. They play four NYC shows as part of the trip, which kicks off February 1st - a gig at Pianos (2/4) followed by Union Hall (2/5), then the same sequence again a week later (2/11 & 2/12). California's The Willowz (think White Stripes) open. Tickets are on sale for the Pianos shows (Union Hall seems to be sold-out already).
The Willowz recently put out an album of their own, Everyone (Dim Mak/Downtown Records) in December. A 'Making Of' featurette for Everyone video and all tour dates are below...
