O'Death @ The Mohawk
O'Death

"Outside"[their latest album] expands the band's Gothic-folk sound. O'Death deploys Americana elements -- banjo, violin, acoustic guitar -- to craft haunting, cinematic songs...

O'Death may never top the charts but it's made a splash on the alternative and folk scenes with relentless live shows. The band's first gig after Rogers-Berry's close call was at the famed Newport Folk Festival. "We were definitely one of the more high-energy acts of the day, but it was appreciated," Jamie said.

Affirmation helps. In New York City, they don't fit in.

"I'm not sure what it is we're doing but there's not really anything like that going on in New York," Jamie said. "My gut's telling me we're not a part of a scene. ... I always feel out there like we're doing our own thing." -[Go Erie]

O'Death completed a three-week tour of East Coast/Midwest/Southwest dates in September with Why Are We Building Such A Big Ship? which concluded in Maine. The dates left out NYC, a fact that will be rememdied when the band takes to the stages of Bell House on Saturday (10/8) with The Woes and Lady Lamb The Beekeeper. Tickets are still available.

Here are some pictures from the Austin show at The Mohawk on 9/1 with Why Are We Building Such A Big Ship?, American Spirit and Guns are below (sorry no shots of Guns though) (rimshot!). More below...

Budos Band @ the 5th Ave Street Fair, 2007
Fifth Avenue Record Fair

Park Slope's annual 5th Avenue Street Fair is Sunday, May 16th. It runs from Sterling to 12th Street and starts at noon. Not your typical corn dog and lemonade street fair (though they do have that stuff), the Brooklyn event features multiple stages of live music including two hosted by Southpaw which is also home to the day's Punk & Underground Record Fair (10am-6pm, $5 entry). Southpaw's stages, assuming it doesn't rain, will be in front of Southpaw, and at the Gate (5th Ave & 3rd St). If it rains, music moves inside Southpaw where the record fair will also be taking place.

While on Fifth Ave, you can also stop by Union Hall (season finale of tearing the veil of maya at 7 / indie rock all stars cover tusk by fleetwood mac at 9), and walk a block down to 4th Ave to check out new venue Rock Shop.

Flyers and music lineups (which aren't 100% consistent with the flyers) below...

Whartscape

"For 4 years now Wham City has been organizing the WHARTSCAPE. What started as a summer warehouse party turned into a much bigger, multi-day outdoor festival with thousands of bands, performers, and folks traveling to Baltimore from all across the US and Europe.
Since, we organize this festival out of pocket and in our spare time, it is important for us to keep it comfortable and enjoyable for us to do. One thing we talked about at the end of last year's festival was shrinking it down slightly and having it feel more community based and familiar.

This year isn't focused around headliners, but mainly performers and friends that make up the community we tour, work and live in.
We are also greatly reducing the number of MEGA-PASSES (the 3 day pass ticket that grants you entry to every show and every day).
ONLY 300 Mega-Passes will be sold; this is the only guarantee that you can see all the shows.

Tickets will be sold to the individual shows, but it is strongly suggested that you buy a Mega-Pass, as it saves you money and assures you take in the entire poo-poo.
Whartscape will take place July 10-11-12 at the Baltimore Museum of Art, Maryland Institute College of Art Studio Center Parking Lot, and Load of Fun.
We will begin selling tickets at 12 Noon, Monday, June 29th.
