Bishop Allen @ Sasquatch Fest in June (more by Chris Graham)
Bishop Allen

"The new songs are a glorious mess right now," [Bishop Allen] frontman Justin Rice admits to Spinner. "There are bits and pieces strung together, exquisite corpse-style: donkey heads on snake bodies with chicken feet. It's a great time because I can feel the potential in everything we're working on. Nothing's let me down yet by turning out ugly or tamer than I'd hoped."
Bishop Allen's latest record, Grrr..., came out in early 2009. They have plans to record the follow-up later this year, but not before heading out on tour this fall. The trip kicks off in Boston on October 27th, but doesn't swing around to NYC until its finale, when they play Union Hall on November 20th and the Bell House on Nov. 21st. Tickets for the Bell House are on sale - tickets for the much smaller Union Hall aren't.

Opening both shows, and the entire tour, are catchy Seattle indie-poppers Throw Me the Statue (whose new LP, Creaturesque, came out in August - an MP3 from it is above) and Darwin Deez, an affable NYC quartet who sometimes break out into on-stage synchronized dance routines (video below). Darwin Deez is also appearing at a number of official and unofficial CMJ showcases. Those and all other tour dates are posted below...

Before that run, Nurses join The Brunettes/Throw Me The Statue tour, which cuts across North America at the end of August through September. That tour has a September 2nd NYC show which is also at Mercury Lounge. Tickets are still on sale for that.

Nurses have their own new disc on the way -- that album, Apple's Acre, comes out August 4th on Dead Oceans (and is available for pre-order now). Get a double taste of the disc above. Album art, trackslist and a video of their song "In Rhythm," with all tour dates, are below...

Throw Me the Statue

Seattle indie-pop band Throw Me The Statue will head into their fall US tour armed with a new record. That disc, Creaturesque, produced by the band and Phil Ek (who's worked with groups that include The Shins, Built To Spill and Band Of Horses) comes out August 4th on Secretly Canadian. A song from the album is posted above.

Joining TMTS on the August/September trip will be New Zealand's The Brunettes. The tour hits NYC on September 2nd, when both bands play the Mercury Lounge. Tickets are on sale.

The Brunettes last played Brooklyn on Friday, July 10th, at a Bell House show with Animal Hands, Sharon Van Etten and Great Lakes (not Greak Lake Swimmers, with whom Sharon recently toured Europe). Great Lakes is singer/guitarist Ben Crum and prolific NYC drummer Kevin Shea. A video of that band playing in a boat and all upcoming Sharon Van Etten shows are posted below. Tickets are on sale.

VanderveldeThe above MP3s are off David Vandervelde's not-so-critically acclaimed new album Waiting For The Sunrise that he'll be touring in support of starting at the end of this month in NYC, at Union Hall (tix) and Mercury Lounge (tix).

Both NYC shows are with David's Secretly Canadian labelmate Throw Me the Statue who will be in town from Seattle after playing a bunch of their own shows elsewhere in the country. One of their MP3s is above too and you can check out their Daytrotter session for more. Their album Moonbeams came out in February (you may have seen the cover art featuring two half naked women).
