Bob Mould at Williamsburg Park in 2012 (more by Sachyn Mital)
Bob Mould

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows, but here are some highlights...

Karen O @ McKittrick Hotel
Karen O's first (but recorded 7 years ago) solo album, Crush Songs, is out now, and unlike Yeah Yeah Yeahs' increasingly bigger sounding music, it's raw introverted bedroom folk. This week's four intimate shows (tonight's being the third) should fit the sound well.

Bob Mould, Cymbals Eat Guitars @ Bowery Ballroom
Between his time in Husker Du, Sugar, and a prolific solo career, the legendary Bob Mould has over three decades of great material to pull from for this week's 3 NYC shows, this being the second. Openers Cymbals Eat Guitars are not to be missed either. This year's LOSE is one of the year's most powerful indie rock albums.

Ducktails, Limited, The Stevens @ Baby's All Right
Real Estate guitarist Matt Mondanile takes center stage with Ducktails, whose music isn't so far off from his other group's jangle. Ducktails guitarist Alex Craig, meanwhile, fronts the '80s-romo-loving Limited. Do get there early to catch Australia's terrific The Stevens.

Philip Glass Ensemble, Steve Reich @ BAM
Nonesuch Records' 50th anniversary at BAM continues with the third of three collaborative nights of contemporary composer greats Philip Glass and Steve Reich, their first live collaborations in over thirty years.

Shannon and the Clams, Liquor Store, Juniper Rising, Hobocop @ Death By Audio
With a sound straight out of the early days of Rock n' Roll, Shannon & the Clams bring big hooks and personality (and a lot of fun) to the table. This is Shannon's second  of three sold-out NYC shows this week.

The Young, Fly Golden Eagle, Degreaser @ Glasslands
The Young's new LP is a great dose of psychedelic punk and a step up from their last. Tonight they return to NYC for their first of two shows here this week.

Man or Astro-Man?, The Pack A.D. @ Mercury Lounge
Everyone's favorite sci-fi surf punk band Man or Astro-Man? are back in town for two NYC shows this week, tonight's being the second.

The Sharp Things, Jennifer Castle, Meredith Young @ Mercury Lounge
Canada's Jennifer Castle makes quality folk on her new album, which hearkens back to the cult singers of the late '60s/early '70s and features string arrangements by Owen Pallett. Tonight's her first of two NYC shows this week.

Cheetah Chrome (acoustic), Threats, Knucklehead (acoustic) @ Niagara
Punk veteran Cheetah Chrome (of Dead Boys) has a few NYC gigs scheduled this week. This one's on the intimate side.

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Steve Winwood @ PNC Bank Arts Center
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers put out their 13th album this year, Hypnotic Eye, and they're also responsible for some of the most massive heartland rock hits dating back to the 1970s. We should get a little of everything tonight.

Sylvan Esso, Landlady @ Rough Trade
Watching the crowds at their shows opening for tUnE-yArDs (and on their own) it was clear Sylvan Esso have an audience of their own which is growing by the minute.  Like Friday's Bowery Ballroom show, this one is sold out... next stop Terminal 5.

Naomi Punk, Sleepies, Nine of Swords, Low Fat Getting High @ Shea Stadium
This is a good bill of NYC punk bands, and they're promising a special guest headliner which we can presumably at least narrow down to genre. Who do you think it is? UPDATE: It's Naomi Punk.

Elephant Stone, Lunifred Benjamin, High Waisted @ The Rock Shop
Montreal's Elephant Stone share their name with a Stone Roses single and on their new album Three Poisons, they definitely embrace the Madchester baggy sound. They're pretty killer live -- and how often do you get to see a rock band with sitar?

Museum of Love (Pat Mahoney + Jee Day), Tiger & Woods, Jacques Renault @ Verboten
While Museum of Love do play live as a band (and a good one too), tonight's a DJ night for Pat & Jee Day.

Nik Turner's Hawkwind, Witch Mountain, Hedersleben, Tonstartssbandht @ Marlin Room at Webster Hall
Sax and flute man Nik Turner was a member of Hawkwind in the '70s and '80s and now fronts his own version of the Spacerock pioneers. His backing band, Hedersleben, gets their own opening set, and first up is Montreal/NYC experimental duo Tonstartssbandht.

Ukiah Drag, Uniform, Crazy Spirit, Survival, Nick Klein @ Saint Vitus
The Ukiah Drag make heavy psych punk on their new LP which really is a trip. Tonight's a joint release part for that and the new one from local noisemakers Uniform (ex-The Men, Drunkdriver).

White Denim, Clear Plastic Masks @ MHOW
Austin's jam scene-approved rockers White Denim are on night two of a three-night at Music Hall of Williamsburg tonight. Their current tour is continuing to support last year's Jeff Tweedy-produced Corsicana Lemonade.

Diane Cluck @ Rockwood Music Hall
Folk singer Diane Cluck put out an excellent album this year with Boneset and she's got two shows at Rockwood this week, this being the first.

Mac DeMarco at FFF Fest 2013 (more by Tim Griffin)
Mac

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows, but here are some highlights...

Mac DeMarco @ Other Music
Get a sneak peak at Mac's new album, Salad Days, at this free acoustic in-store ahead of his two proper headlining shows. UPDATE: To attend, you had to pre-order the album through Other Music, and the venue is now at capacity.

The World is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die, The Hotelier, Crying, Told Slant @ Suburbia
Brooklyn DIY spot Suburbia hosts an excellent double dose of emo tonight with multi-layered Connecticut collective TWIABP and Worcester, MA's emo/pop punk/post-hardcore blenders THe Hotelier. Local support comes from chiptune band Crying and bedroom indie rockers Told Slant. Suburbia is pretty tiny, so this is sure to be a pretty wild show.

Peach Kelli Pop, The Mystery Lights, Scully @ Don Pedro
Peach Kelli Pop (aka White Wires drummer Allie Hanlon's other band) make sugary bubblegum garage confections like on the band's new single. This is their second of two NYC shows.

North Highlands, Ablebody, Bennio Qwerty, Cowboy @ Glasslands
North Highlands are going their separate ways -- singer Brenda Malvani is leaving NYC -- but on good terms, playing one last show together. We'll miss ya, NH!

Typhoon, Lady Lamb The Beekeeper, Wild Ones @ Webster Hall
This is a pretty good triple bill with art pop ensemble Typhoon, the folky Lady Lamb the Beekeeper, and Typhoon's Portland neighbors Wild Ones.

Tiger & Woods, Poolside (DJ Set), DJ Spun @ Output
Electronic duo Tiger & Woods return to NYC for Output's weekly INPUT party, and dancey duo Poolside are on the bill DJing as well.

Allah-Las, Spires, The Black Hollies @ Rough Trade
Los Angeles band Allah-Las look and sound like they're from 1966, making sweet 12-string jangly pop. This is a rescheduled show from December and a one-off for the band.

Rakim @ SOB's
Rakim still plays his hometown a good amount, and tonight's another good opportunity to catch the legendary rapper.

JD Samson & MEN @ The Jewish Museum
The Jewish Museum's Wind Up series continues tonight with a live set from ex-Le Tigre member JD Samson's band MEN. There will also be "interactive art making activities, tours of the new exhibition Other Primary Structures, and an open bar with beer and wine."

Svper, Arm Candy, Blizzard Babies @ Silent Barn
Barcelona duo SVPER make motorik synthpop that sounds a bit like Broadcast's Trish Keenan fronting "Electricity"-era Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark.

The So So Glos, Heeney, Pictureplane DJ set, Tony Quattro DJ set, Nick Gazin DJ set @ The Flat
Mishka is celebrating the 5-year anniversary of its flagship store (350 Broadway in Brooklyn) tonight with an in-store reception from 7 to 10 PM, and after that there's an afterparty at The Flat with local rock bands The So So Glos and Heeney, plus numerous DJs.

Hiro Kone, Dutch E Germ, Drew McDowall, Soren @ Baby's All Right
NYC electronic musician Hiro Kone celebrates his new album tonight at Baby's All Right with support from ex-Gang Gang Dance member Dutch E Germ and others.

The xx @ Park Avenue Armory
The xx continue their run of 25 shows at the Park Avenue Armory which run through March 29. Each show is extremely intimate (holds 40 people) and very sold out.

Joe Mande, Wyatt Cenac, Max Silvestri @ The Bell House
The very funny Joe Mande left NYC to live in LA a few years ago, but tonight he'll be back on his #BITCHFACE tour, and solid support comes from current NYC residents Wyatt Cenac and Max Silvestri.

For all of tonight's shows, and tomorrow's, check out our NYC concert calendar.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
