Earth at Inferno Festival 2012 (more by BBG)
Earth

Seattle drone doom mainstays Earth are on tour now with Eagle Twin and Stebmo, and as discussed it hits NYC this weekend at Littlefield on Saturday (11/10). Tickets for that show are still available. The tour is in support of the band's most recent album, Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light II, which came out this past February. If you haven't heard it yet, you can stream it over at Pitchfork.

Speaking of great metal tours passing through the NYC area this weekend, the Converge, Torche, and Kvelertak tour hits Highline Ballroom on Sunday (11/11) with Whips/Chains. That show is now sold out, but if you slept on getting tickets, you can catch them a day earlier at The Stone Pony (11/10) in Asbury Park. Tickets for the NJ show are still available.

Converge are supporting their great new album, All We Love We Leave Behind, which if you haven't yet, you can stream in full below. Also below is the video for Torche's "Kicking" off their 2012 LP, Harmonicraft, the video for Kvelertak's "Blodtorst," off their 2010 self-titled LP, and a list of all remaining dates on the Earth tour and the Converge/Torche/Kvelertak tour.

Converge at House of Vans 2011 (more by Fred Pessaro // BBG)
Converge

Though details are still sketchy, it looks as if Boston hardcore favorites Converge will hit the road for a string of dates in November surrounding their appearance at Fun Fun Fest. It's not known as to how extensive the tour may/not be, but will play Highline Ballroom on November 11 with special guests Torche and Kvelertak (both of which are confirmed for the FFF as well). Tickets go on sale on Wednesday, August 15 at noon.

Converge is currently prepping a new LP, but recently dropped a split 7" with none other than Napalm Death. Order your copy via Deathwish and stream a teaser for that below alongside all tour dates.

Speaking of Highline Ballroom, a quick nudge for those who may have forgotten. The venue will host a bang-up bill of Russian Circles, Chelsea Wolfe and Marriages on Saturday (8/18) as part of their tour together. Tickets are still available.

Converge dates are listed below along with that audio stream.

Metallica

As mentioned, Orion Music & More happens this weekend in Atlantic CIty's Bader Field from June 23-24 and is being headlined by Metallica both nights, who play Ride the Lightning in full on Saturday (6/23) and The Black Album in full on Sunday (6/24). Other bands playing include Arctic Monkeys, Modest Mouse, Hot Snakes, Fucked Up, The Gaslight Anthem, Titus Andronicus, Best Coast, Liturgy, A Place to Bury Strangers, and more, plus a heavy stage with Suicidal Tendencies, Sepultura, Torche, Red Fang, Kyng, Landmine Marathon, Black Tusk, Thy Will Be Done and others. The heavy stage (aka "Damage, Inc.") isn't the only place you can catch heavy bands though. The festival also includes Baroness on the Orion stage, The Sword on the Fuel stage, Liturgy on the Frantic stage, and Ghost on the Orion stage. You can check out the full schedule of both days and all four stages HERE.

Orion Music & More is the first NYC-area appearance for Hot Snakes since the reunited band played The Bell House and Maxwell's in December. They'll play another area show (also in NJ) at ATP I'll Be Your Mirror in September.

As mentioned, it's the first time in a while that Modest Mouse will be in the NYC area. They play Orion on Saturday (6/23) before heading to Randall's Island for Governors Ball, which also happens this weekend.

There's a ton of stuff going on at Orion other than live music too. You can pick up rock 'n' roll memorabilia at Ktulu's Rock 'N' Roll Emporium, check out film screenings hand-picked by Lars Ulrich at Hit The Lights Films, skate the Motorbreath Mini Ramp, have a glimpse into Kirk Hammett's creepy personal collection of horror film memorabilia at Kirk's Crypt, surf, nerd out at the ESP Guitar Experience, check out the Metallica Museum, show your support for a variety of charities, or check out the car show.

If you're heading out to Atlantic City for the fest this weekend, head here for directions. If you're driving, there's no on-site parking at the field, but there are a number of parking areas nearby and free shuttles that run from the lots to Bader Field. If you're taking the train, you can get there via the Amtrak or the NJ Transit Rail and there will be a free shuttle from the Atlantic City terminal to the festival. Once you're there, this map should help you get around. We're also told that it's about a 20-30 minute walk from the boardwalk.

Tickets for the festival are still available.

Too Much Horror BusinessToo Much Horror Business

In related news," Kirk's Crypt" isn't the only place Mr. Hammett will be indulging in his love of all things creepy. He'll be publishing a book titled Too Much Horror Business - The Kirk Hammett Collection this October via Abrams Image with photographs of his personal collection of horror memorabilia. The book also includes Kirk's own handwritten captions for many of the photographs. He'll be putting out limited edition toys, like the ones he's been collecting his whole life, along with the book this October. You can pre-order the book at Kirk's online toy store. He'll be discussing the book at Kirk's Crypt at 4 PM each day.

Maybe his old friend Glenn Danzig will add it to his book collection...

Gaza

Salt Lake City band Gaza's reign of terror -- fought with a molotov cocktail of hardcore, sludge, math, and grind -- has a new weapon, a forthcoming set of unholy hymns entitled No Absolutes in Human Suffering. The LP is due via Black Market Activities on July 31st, and you can check out "Mostly Hair & Bones" below, the first song to emerge from that record. If you want to see how deep the rabbit hole goes, make sure to swing by their Facebook page for the lyrics to the song.

As mentioned, Gaza will hit the road with Black Cobra later this month for a tour which brings the two bands to NYC on June 25 at Saint Vitus. Tickets for that show are still available. Corrosion of Conformity and Torche are on some of the dates too, but won't be at the Saint Vitus show.

Post Teens

Members of Torche and Asshole Parade converge to form Post Teens, a five piece punk crew welcoming their new The Heat EP on June 5th via No Idea. Clocking in at a short-but-sweet six minutes over as many songs, Post Teens mine the snotty melodic punk territory occupied by current favorites like The Spits and recently seen on the latest Toys That Kill record. Stream the title track for the first time below. The new EP is the follow-up to last-year's debut 7" which hit via Sound Study Recordings and features "Fucked Up Perception", available in video form below.

Post Teens are on the road in late May with the great Mauser, playing a string fo dates on their way toward Chaos in Tejas on June 2nd, where they'll team up with Dopamines, Joyce Manor (who recently played NYC), Shoppers, Wiccans and Creem (who have a new 12" due via Deranged) for a whopper of a show at Scoot Inn.

All tour dates, those Post Teens streams, and a full album stream of the new Creem LP are below.

High on Fire at the BV/POTR Deathmatch (more by Greg Cristman)
High on Fire

Knowing the High on Fire guys, it's safe to say that the Oakland metal trio will probably try to tour their asses off on the strength of their recent LP De Vermis Mysteriis'. Continuing to prove that true, now comes word that the band will headline a pair of NYC shows which will also feature appearances from Torche and Kylesa (who are currently touring with Gwar). The three bands, a repeat lineup from a previous tour, will hit Bowery Ballroom on August 1st and Music Hall of Williamsburg on August 2nd. Tickets for both the Bowery show and the MHoW show go on AMEX presale on April 25th at noon, and regular sale on Friday.

UPDATE: Torche and Kylesa are no longer on these shows, and have disappeared from the Bowery sites.

The shows are in addition to High on Fire's appearance as part of the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival tour which hits Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, NJ on 7/27, Saratoga Performing Arts in Saratoga Springs, NY on 7/31, and The Comcast Theatre in Hartford, CT on Aug 5th. That tour includes names like Slayer, Anthrax, Slipknot, Motorhead, and many others, which vary by date. More details are available at the Rockstar site. All tour dates are listed below.

Miami four-piece Torche recently played NYC at Gramercy, are scheduled to hit the Orion Festival, and have a new LP in Harmonicraft. Stream that in full at Spin.

Now that Roadburn 2012 is in their rearview, two man sludge wrecking crew Black Cobra have a new challenge on the horizon, conquering the land down under. The duo will play Australia and New Zealand starting next week and follow-up those dates with ANOTHER set of US dates, this time with Corrosion of Conformity, Torche & Gaza (though all bands are not on all dates). The dates include a stop in NYC at Saint Vitus on June 25th with Gaza. Tickets are on sale. All dates are listed below.

In related news, Torche have released their new LP Harmonicraft, and are streaming it in its entirety at Spin. Look for Torche in the NYC area at Orion Music & Arts Festival.

Suicidal Tendencies at Terminal 5 (more by Meghan McInnis)
Suicidal Tendencies

After an initial announcement featured bands from across the map, Metallica's Atlantic City summer festival Orion Music & More (June 23rd and 24th at Bader Field) has announced more bands and a "Damage Inc" stage. The new stage has a more metal focus while avoiding the standard "Summer Slaughter"/"Monster Energy Drink Mayhem Festival" type fare. Suicidal Tendencies will headine the stage, which will also feature Sepultura, Torche, Red Fang, Kyng, Landmine Marathon, Black Tusk, and Thy Will Be Done.

Eric Church, The Jim Breuer Heavy Metal Comedy Tour, Soul Rebels, and Wooden Shjips have also been added to the lineup.

The new bands are in addition to previously announced folk like Metallica, Modest Mouse, Titus Andronicus (who play the BV Official Showcase at SXSW), Arctic Monkeys, The Black Angels (who are also playing a BV SXSW event), and many others. Tickets are on sale. Full lineup below...

Andrew Elstner with Torche at MHoW (more by Justin Tyler)
Tilts

You might know the name Andrew Elstner from his role as the recently added member of Torche, but before that Elstner was a part of another crew from his native St. Louis, TILTS. The stoner-y four piece definitely subscribe to a similar aesthetic as Torche - sugar-y pop masked under rumbling Orange woofers, but also steer close to things like Van Halen's party vibe or Queens of the Stone Age's sludge-pop.

TILTS are currently using Kickstarter to help pay for the master in order to prepare their debut LP for release on the venerable Robotic Empire. The band has met their goal, but you can still contribute to get anything from the digital LP to a free show. Head to their kickstarter for more details.

Perhaps inspired by the recent resurgence of Diamond Dave and the brothers, TILTS have released the new mastered track in "Hot for Pizza" (ahem) from their now-funded forthcoming LP on Robotic Empire. Stream that along with a good chunk of the band's recorded output below.

Reminder: Torche will hit the road for a string of dates with Corrosion of Conformity.

Van Halen recently announced 2012 tour dates (and a new song). Tickets for their MSG dates are currently on AMEX presale and go on regular sale Friday (tickets for 2/28 here and 3/1 here).

All tour dates and streams are below.

Corrosion of Conformity at Best Friends Day (more by Chris Boarts Larson)
Corrosion of Conformity

Corrosion of Conformity, who just played Starland Ballroom on Friday with Clutch, are prepping their new LP for release via Candlelight on February 28, 2012. The self-titled effort will feature art from Seldon Hunt and will be the focus of the band's upcoming string of US dates that will kick off at Gramercy Theatre on March 1st, hit SXSW in Austin, and then terminate a few days later. The band will be joined by Torche, Valient Thorr and A Storm of Light on most dates including Gramercy. Ticketing info for the NYC show is forthcoming.

Before hitting the road for those dates, CoC will team up with Hail! Hornet to play Asheville, NC as part of HH's tour with Zoroaster and the Slow Southern Steel film. That tour hits NYC on 2/8 and tickets are still available.

All tour dates and some video, below.

Torche

"I rarely listen to metal," says Brooks, 37. "I grew up on it, so there's a part of me that's influenced by old metal. I'm a child of [music of] the late '70s, '80s and '90s, and I hold all those eras with me. Sometimes I have to be edited by my much younger bandmates [when I say things like,] 'Hey, that reminds me of Talk Talk or Adam and the Ants.'"

One of those young'uns is guitarist Andrew Elstner, who makes his recorded debut with Torche on the band's upcoming, still-untitled album (the follow-up to 2010's "Songs for Singles") and on a new split EP with British rockers Part Chimp that features three Guided by Voices covers.

"It really inspired all of us," Brooks says of Elstner's contributions to the writing process. "We related to him so much more than our last guitar player [Juan Montoya] in many, many ways. ... I think it's the most mature work we've done."
[Expressnightout]

Torche and Part Chimp played NYC on Wednesday 11/9 at Mercury Lounge as part of their tour together and Part Chimp's US farewell. Though the bands' split together is sold-out via Chunklet, the band had copies on hand at the venue, so head to the merch table if the duo is heading to your town.

Leviathan's True Traitor True Whore
Leviathan

Leviathan's True Traitor True Whore was hands down my most anticipated release of this year, especially considering my reverence for his last LP Massive Conspiracy Against All Life. True Traitor True Whore is Jef Whitehead's personal statement toward the recent charges brought upon him, according to his interview in Pitchfork, and it is also one of his most daring and overtly "rock" leaning records yet. TTTW is one of my favorite sort of records, opening itself up more and more with repeated listening, and is definitely another notch in his already storied career as an outsider artist. Stream three Leviathan tracks below, which previously posted at Pitchfork (x2) and Invisible Oranges, and get your copy via Profound Lore.

The same night that Torche and Part Chimp attack Mercury Lounge (11/9), Exhumed will team with Goatwhore and Havok to play Europa. Tickets are still available to both Europa and Merc, but I have a pair of tickets available for giveaway for the Europa show. Head below for more details on how you can win. The Torche/Part Chimp split, which we previewed recently, is currently streaming in full at Spin.

Concussion will hit Public Assembly on 11/10 with Worms In Women And Cattle (Pippi Zornoza from the live incarnation of Wold), Syphilitic Lust, and Sannhet.

And last but not least, The Ocean have added a show at Saint Vitus on 11/8 with Family, Alekhine's Gun, and The Binary Code. All US dates and some in their home base of the EU, are below.

More details on how to win those Exhumed tickets, an incredible Neurosis video and more suggested NYC shows are below.

Part Chimp
Part Chimp

While Torche stretches their covers muscle with three Guided By Voices jams on their forthcoming split on Chunklet, the mighty Part Chimp have other plans. Since the split and corresponding tour will act as the band's swan song to US audiences, the UK band has blessed us with a pair of new tracks on their side of the spinning black circle. Stream one of those Part Chimp tracks, "The Watcher", making its debut here, and Torche's rendition of "Exit Flagger" (which first appeared on Pitchfork) below. Fans of Torche's molasses-guitar tone and sugary-sweetness will enjoy Part Chimp's side of the proceedings. Pre-order the 12" now.

In other news, Torche have signed a deal with Volcom Entertainment to release their next LP. Details are forthcoming, but the currently-untitled effort will be recorded in their hometown studio of Pinecrust, with Kurt Ballou behind the mixing board.

As previously mentioned, Part Chimp and Torche hit Mercury Lounge on 11/9 with Dirty Fences. Tickets are still available. All tour dates, that Part Chimp Stream, and some video is below.

Torche at Webster Hall (more by Greg Cristman)
Torche

As previously predicted, Torche and Part Chimp are hitting the road in November in celebration of their upcoming 12" on Chunklet Records. The record has Torche covering three Guided by Voices songs and two new Part Chimp songs. Head over to Pitchfork to check out a stream of Torche's cover of "Exit Flagger". "Postal Blowfish" and "Unleashed! the Largehearted Boy" are the other two.

As previously mentioned, the tour hits Mercury Lounge in NYC on 9th. Tickets are on sale. These shows will reportedly be, like Guided By Voices before them, Part Chimp's final US appearances. All dates and some videos below...

Torche at MHoW (more by Justin Tyler)
Torche

Torche will hit the road with the UK's Part Chimp for a string of East Coast dates, according to recent tweets by the band. Though the full tour routing has yet to be revealed, the dates will include an appearance at Mercury Lounge on November 9th with Dirty Fences, and tickets go on sale at noon on 9/16.

US audiences have had limited recording-interaction with noise rockers Part Chimp, who released the bulk of their output on Mogwai's Rock Action Records in the UK. The band will share a split 12" with touring partners Torche in the near future though, according to Part Chimp member Iain Hinchliffe. More details are forthcoming. For now check out some Part Chimp video below...

Helms Alee at Cake Shop (more by Markus Shaffer)
Helms Alee

Similar to their labelmates Torche and Big Business, Helms Alee mixes the sweet with the blistering on their latest LP, Weatherhead. Weatherhead is currently on sale via Hydrahead with its official release date set for Tuesday, but you can exclusively stream it in its entirety here and now, below.

After a record release celebration with Akimbo, Brothers of The Sonic Cloth, and Norska on June 29th at Neumos in Seattle, Helms Alee will pick up a show in Austin at Red 7 on 7/6 before joining Torche and Big Business on tour in July.
