Downtown Records are taking their Downtown Music Festivals to different North American cities this year with a lineup that includes Black Hippy (aka Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Ab Soul, and Jay Rock all playing together), Purity Ring, Earl Sweatshirt, Sky Ferreira, DIIV, Palma Violets, Trash Talk, Beach Fossils, Teengirl Fantasy, Inc., Ducktails, Royal Teeth, and Black Dave, plus more TBA.

The full lineup and schedule for the NYC shows has not been announced yet, but we do know that it includes the previously announced Palma Violets show at Bowery Ballroom (which is now sold out, but tickets are still available for PV's MHOW show a day earlier). We also hear that they're trying to put up an outdoor stage and shut down Ludlow St to car traffic (which Pianos and Cake Shop are both on) for the festival, but no exact word on how that will work out.
After NYC, the festival will also pass through Philly, Toronto, Boston, LA, Denver, and Las Vegas, but the dates for those cities has not been announced yet.

Odd Future member Earl Sweatshirt will be making his SXSW debut this year (he wasn't there when the rest of his crew first played), and will be doing collaborative sets with Captain Murphy, aka Flying Lotus' rap alter ego (who collaborated with him on "Between Friends"). Those sets include the Life or Death showcase on Wednesday (3/13) at Scoot Inn at midnight, the Green Label Sound showcase on Friday (3/15) at Lucille at 9:30 PM, and FADER Fort on Saturday (3/16) at 6 PM. Flyers for all three of those shows with full lineups are below.
Earl just appeared at Flying Lotus' LA show at Low End Theory last week (3/7) and they performed three tracks off Earl's upcoming album, Doris, "Burgundy" (produced by Pharrell), "Hive," and "Guild." Mac Miller is featured on that last one and he was at the LA show too. You can check it all out in a video from the show, which is below. Also below is the video for previously released Doris track, "Chum," and Earl has another new video on the way too.

The line-up for the fourth-annual event was just released and features Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Twin Shadow, Sky Ferreira, Mykki Blanco, Trash Talk, King Tuff, Parquet Courts, Kitty Pryde, Mortuary and many, many more. (English language bands were curated, as before, by Todd P.) The whole line-up is in the flyer below.
Advance tickets ($25) are available here. Flyer with the 2013 line-up is below.
The Fly is the "UK's most popular new music magazine," but if you haven't heard of it, its because it's a free monthly that doesn't really get international distribution. You can however read it online. The mag just released it's year-end issue and topping their Best Albums of 2012 is Sharon Van Etten's Tramp (which was just released in a Deluxe edition, a fine Xmas gift don't you know). Sharon narrowly beat out Grimes, whose Visions came in at #2. The whole list, in ascending order, is below and you can read what The Fly said about each album here.
A list of the Fly's Top 50 Albums of 2012 is below.
Odd Future & Trash Talk at 285 Kent in July (more by Mighty Beardo)
Odd Future labelmates Trash Talk and MellowHype, who both just released albums this week (119 and Numbers, respectively), will be heading out on a tour together this fall which hits NYC on November 17 at Gramercy Theater. As is the case with these Odd Future shows, tickets immediately went on sale.

Windhand has been add to the previously discussed Primitive Weapons, Mares of Thrace, Pilgrim show at Saint Vitus on August 3rd. Make sure and get there early... don't miss them!
Thanks to everyone who came out to 285 Kent last night. It was pretty insane, and I couldnt have done it without the perpetually down boys in Trash Talk, OFWGKTA, the amazing staff of 285 Kent and Todd P. But most of all, thanks to everyone who came.
I'm gonna keep it short and sweet this week. Have a great weekend and maybe see you at some of the shows listed below! What did I miss?

Frank Ocean & friends @ 285 Kent
After Frank Ocean played Terminal 5 and Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt played Best Buy Theater, Frank, Tyler, Earl, and most of the rest of the Odd Future crew that was in town (no Mike G or Syd The Kid), made their way over to 285 Kent where the free Brooklynvegan-presented afterparty was happening with an advertised set by Trash Talk (who record for Odd Future Records) and DJ Leftbrain (of Odd Future). Doors were scheduled to open at midnight, By then there were already more than capacity on line to get in. Naturally, everyone did not get in, and some actually stayed on line outside, still hoping while listening through the door until the end of the show.
As advertised/hinted, there were special guests who turned out to be all of Odd Future (even Frank Ocean). The show started with about an hour-long DJ set where the members of Odd Future were on stage dancing around, singing along to whatever songs were playing and hyping the crowd who started to get crazy, but not as crazy as when Trash Talk actually took the stage. It was a trip to watch Frank Ocean having fun on the 285 Kent stage with his friends, after just having seen him command a sold out crowd at Terminal 5. Not to mention Tyler and Earl goofing around, after also just having played a headlining show at the sold out Best Buy Theater. Tyler, Earl and others then stayed on stage for Trash Talk as the band played a signature set that includes lots of pit action and people jumping off speakers. Odd Future didn't technically perform a live set at 285 Kent, but Tyler, as he has done in the past, took over vocals for "Radicals," which you can watch a video of below. Said video also includes footage of Trash Talk playing their song, "Awake."
sweaty Trash Talk
For Trash Talk's last song, they asked every single person in the room to run out of the venue on to the street to join with the people who couldn't get in. That didn't work out so well though, as the security at the door was already overwhelmed and chaos and a fight quickly ensued outside as Todd P and the rest of the 285 Kent crew tried to calm the masses.
Among those in the crowd were Odd Future associate Lucas, members of Real Estate (who Trash Talk shouted out), Neon Indian, and Cults. Vampire Weekend and John Legend were spotted earlier in the night at Frank Ocean (where Odd Future and Trash Talk also was), and I saw Action Bronson, Despot, and Chavez guitarist Matt Sweeney all hanging out outside the Odd Future Best Buy Theater show. All in all, an eventful night for the NYC music scene thanks to the Odd Future crew coming to town.
We have even more pictures coming, but here's one set. More of them, with the video of Tyler joining Trash Talk, below...

Trash Talk during SXSW (more by Greg Cristman)
In a move that actually makes sense if you think about it, anarchic punk band Trash Talk have signed with anarchic rappers Odd Future's record label who will release the band's new album this fall. Says OFWGKTA's L-Boy in the press release:
So them muthafu***** ova at Odd Future records done signed a fu***** group of crackas and ni**** in a hardcore punk band called Trash Talk. I mean it makes sense since Odd Future fans is them white ni**** anyway. Trash Talk is supposed to be releasing they album called "119″ or some sh** thru they Trash Talk Collective Label in the fall.. don't ask me what the f*** that means cuz I don't fu***** kno. I asked Tyler's trick ass what he thought about that sh** and I really didn't give a f*** so I'm not gone put that sh** on here. Them Trash Talk ni**** is currently over in Europe with them musty muthaf******.Hopefully it's a real signing this time.
If you give a f*** about they sh**t then listen to them ni**** EP on iTunes called Awake or watch the fuckin video ni***
Trash Talk are currently wreaking havoc on Europe and all those dates are listed below, along with that video for "Awake."
Despite the awesome performance by Code Orange Kids (who rule, and just played Acheron), I'm still a bit bummed that DNF had to cancel our Thrasher Deathmatch show (which happened in Austin during SXSW).
The quartet, which features members of Trash Talk & Touche Amore, weave feedback-laced venom into sludge, hardcore and grind on their debut EP Hurt, out TOMORROW (4/17) via High Anxiety / No Idea. Stream all of that release below. Recommended for fans of Trash Talk and negative, uber-pissed off hardcore/grind. The EP is just a teaser for upcoming material according to the band, so we'll let you know when more material starts to surface.
If you're in the Los Angeles area, do not miss DNF when the band plays Self Help Graphics on April 27th with an embarrassingly impressive lineup of Lack of Interest, Weekend Nachos, and ACxDC.
DNF's label High Anxiety is run by Chris Colohan of Burning Love/Cursed/etc, in conjunction with Var Thelin of No Idea. Chris's band Burning Love will be touring in the coming months and hitting NYC twice. First at Acheron on April 29th with the mighty Salvation (who have an amazing new EP on Youth Attack), Shoxx (members of Pollution & Nomos) and Old Wounds and then again as part of the Southern Lord mega-tour with Black Breath (who played the BV-Power of The Riff SXSW showcase), Enabler (them too), Martyrdod (!), and more TBA. The band will release the Black Widow 7" via No Idea at the end of April.
All Burning Love tour dates and that DNF EP stream is below.

Trash Talk @ Scoot Inn, Austin, TX
The BrooklynVegan/Power of The Riff day show took over two stages at Scoot Inn on 3/16, and one day of the multi-day Converse/Thrasher Deathmatch at the venue. With a ticket price tag of free and a stacked lineup that included High On Fire, Trash Talk, Off!, Ceremony, Deafheaven, Black Cobra, Full of Hell, Dead In The Dirt, Code Orange Kids, Heartless, and Balaclava, its understandable that there was a line around the block for most of the amazing day.
We already posted one set of photos from the show at BV Austin, including shots of Heartless, Ceremony, Balaclava, Full of Hell, and Code Orange Kids. Here are some pictures & video of High on Fire, and Off!, and more of Balaclava, Trash Talk, and Ceremony. Photos of Dead In The Dirt, Deafheaven, Black Cobra, and others are on the way. More below...
A$AP Rocky @ Irving Plaza in February (more by Ryan Muir)
A$AP Mob ended their set at the annual Vice Kills Texas party late Saturday night by coming off the stage to confront a crowd-member who'd been throwing PBR tall boys at the group. Earlier in the show, with BV's Andrew Frisicano in attendance, they called out the audience for tossing objectsat them, at one point spitting on the crowd in the direction of the suspected thrower.
At times, A$AP Rocky seemed to be trying to diffuse the situation...until the group rushed off the stage to end the show (when they did, Rocky was in the midst of saying, "if one more person..."). Most of the crowd scattered away from the fray. The cops cleared the venue after that and at least one audience member left with a bag of ice on his head and blood all over his face and t-shirt.
Trash Talk played the show earlier in the night. Fidlar never got to play their 3am set.
The group has something of a history of ending shows with violence. They did something similar at last year's CMJ.
UPDATE: Video below...

The shows, their first in close to eight years, featured the lineup of Wesley Eisold (of Cold Cave), Timothy Cossar, Joshua Holden, Brian Masek, and Alex Garcia-Rivera, and featured notable support with the East Coast getting appearances from All Pigs Must Die, Colin of Arabia, and Salvation while the West Coast got Trash Talk, Touche Amore, and Weekend. Pictures, videos and the partial setlist from the MA show are in this post.
Jacob Bannon recently interviewed Wes & Tim for the Deathwish podcast, discussing the details behind the reunion. Stream that in full on the Deathwish player or download a copy via iTunes. Deathwish recently reissued We're Down Til We're Underground and Background Music on vinyl. Order yours at their eStore.
