Blues Control at MHOW in 2012 (more by Greg Cristman)
Psych rockers Blues Control released their newest album, Valley Tangents, via Drag City in 2012, and they're about to kick off a tour in support of it which begins with two NYC shows this month and continues across the US and Canada through March. The NYC shows happen on Friday (1/18) at Cozy Royale (434 Humboldt St) with Sightings and 1-800-BAND and January 26 at Shea Stadium with Home Blitz, Illegals, Trepanning, and DJ GDFX. Both shows are all ages, the Cozy Royale show is $8 at the door, and the Shea Stadium show is $10. After the tour ends, they'll play the Deerhunted-curated ATP in the UK (which just expanded its lineup).
The band recently recorded a live Drag City Limits session video for Valley Tangents single, "Iron PIgs," which was filmed on the other side of a doorway from the room they're in and is blurred even more by the dark room and spastic light show. It fits their sound well. You can watch that video and check out a list of all dates below.
Shellshag at Cake Shop in June (more by Andrew St. Clair)
Brooklyn's Shellshag just got home from a US tour this week, and though Hurricane Sandy hasn't made NYC the easiest place to return home to, hopefully everything is okay for them. We'd like to assume so because Shellshag are treating Brooklyn to two hometown shows, including one this weekend. First, they'll play XPO 929 on Saturday (11/3) with Moisture and N/A and then later this month they'll play Death by Audio on November 11 with The Max Levine Ensemble, Marvin Berry & the New Sound, and Trepanning. Both shows appear to be happening as scheduled. Tickets for the XPO 929 show are on sale now. No advance tickets for the Death by Audio show.
Marvin Berry & the New Sound also open for Shellshag's one-time Don Giovanni labelmates BIg Eyes when their tour with Audacity hits Death by Audio on November 21.
Shellshag's most recent release is the "Stars n Bars" 7" that came out over the summer. You can stream the title track off that 7" below.
Night Birds at House of Vans, August 2012 (more by Fred Pessaro // BBG)
By the end of tonight we should have 10 songs out of our 15 song goal done for our 2nd album. All killer, no filler. Making progress...That forthcoming new LP is the follow-up to thier killer The Other Side of Darkness, which hit late last year. Pray for some new tunes when the band takes on Cake Shop tonight (9/28) with Sonic Avenues, Marvin Berry & The New Sound and Trepanning. $10 gets you in.
In addition to tonight's appearance at Cake Shop, look for the band to play October 6 at Brighton Bar in Long Branch, NJ with Angry Samoans (who play NYC next week) and Chronic Sick, as well as shows at Acheron with Toys That Kill and Chaos in Tejas next year.
