Brian Gibson and Jason Kendall of Megasus at Acheron (more)
After releasing their punishing self-titled LP with 20 Buck Spin (and playing an equally punitive live show at Acheron), Megasus is back to release a new 5" mini-EP with Brutal Panda Records. The Menace of The Universe 5" features a pair of new tracks from the Providence beatdown artists including "Damned Hammer" and the title track, which is streaming below. Guitarist Ryan Lesser is responsible for the (impressive) artwork duties on the release, which will include die-cut six-panel packaging. You can see the art and pre-order the EP at Brutal Panda's site.
Megasus, the only band that has the distinction of having a record on Brutal Panda and 20 Buck Spin all while having a song in Rock Band 2, currently have no dates on their calendar. Neither does Lightning Bolt who share drummer/bassist Brian Gibson.
In between working on his fretwork and art for the upcoming release, Ryan Lesser also found time to tell us what his favorite things were in 2010. Check out that list while you listen to the song stream for "Menace Of The Universe" below.

sad but triumphant nightUSAISAMONSTER's final show happened Saturday, May 9th at the newly-decorated Market Hotel in Brooklyn. The bill included Awesome Color, Juiceboxxx, Eloe Omoe, Tunnel of Love, Bow Ribbons, Jason Crumer, Animental, Hot Box and Buck Gooter. At one point the show was stopped and the cops showed up because someone passed out. They left the club in an ambulance (I hope he is OK!), but the show went on. More pictures (including the ambulance) below...

Was it as epic as the Bjork/Dirty Projectors show? I mean will it live on in infamy like that show? I mean will you be telling your kids 20 years from now how you were at this show?

"Stairwell is a small independent gallery in Providence founded in January of 2006 and run by Haley O'Connor and Natalie Purkey. The gallery is deeply rooted in Providence's art community, and prioritizes curatorial creativity and support of all the artists that it works with. Building relationships between artists, curators, and the larger community of Providence is privileged over commercial gain. If you have ever shown your work at Stairwell, played a show there, come to an opening and eaten the homemade food that the curators have prepared, or stopped in to visit, you know that this is a rare and magical venture. As such, it is inevitably risky. After a car accident in Los Angeles a few months ago (in which, thank goodness, nobody was hurt, but a hybrid rental car was nearly totaled) Haley is now deeply in debt to her insurance company. Although Stairwell has been growing in every way, this financial setback creates a significant obstacle, which we think that the community has the power to remove, or at least mitigate. It is time for all of us who have enjoyed the expansive generosity of Stairwell to return the favor and give back a little to support this singular and inspiring gallery." [Todd P]
