The 2013 CMJ Music Marathon happens from October 15 - 19 at clubs all over New York City. As we've been tweeting about at @BVCMJ, tonight (8/27), the CMJ folks held an announcement party at Bowery Electric with live performances from Weekend and Magic Man.
They also announced their initial line-up for this year's fest, which includes Kevin Drew, The Long Winters, Real Estate, Obits, The Dismemberment Plan (Terminal 5), Pelican (who are playing both of our Invisible Oranges showcases at Saint Vitus), Jacco Gardner, Good Riddance, Godflesh, Eagulls, the Pendu Sound showcase, and many more.
We'll have a set of pics from Weekend and Magic Man soon, but for now peruse the full initial CMJ 2013 line-up below.
FILTER Magazine's Culture Collide festival is returning to various LA venues this year from October 9-12. It begins with a kickoff show with Phoenix and Dinosaur Jr (maybe they'll join each other for "Entertainment"?) at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena (10/9), which tickets (separate from the rest of the festival) are on sale for now.
Then, the rest of the fest will include sets from Liars, King Khan & the Shrines, The Raveonettes, Rhye, Iceage, The Men, Medicine, Fuck Buttons, No Joy, Heliotropes and many other bands from around the world. Festival passes that you get in to all non-Phoenix/Dinosaur Jr events are on sale now.

In February 2010, The Old Vic acquired this new performance space beneath Waterloo Station from BRB (Residuary) formerly British Rail. This unique venue showcases productions, performances and installations and will continue to be home to a series of innovative and surprising arts events throughout 2011/12.While NYC didn't get to experience most of its Halloween events (including the Halloween Parade) this year due to Hurricane Sandy, over in London they celebrated with a Day of the Dead Festival in the Old VIc Tunnels, presented by Wahaca ("mexican market eating).
We caught some of the multi-day festival on Saturday (11/3) where we saw Rodrigo y Gabriela, and VadoInMessico,, some Day of the Dead-themed visual art, photography, and performance art. Pictures from the event are in this post. More below...
