Lupe on stage w/ UNKLE @ Vegoose 2007 (CRED)
Lupe Fiasco & Unkle

The Lupe Fiasco one-off, record-release show at Irving Plaza is this Tuesday December 18th. Then he's taking a Hawaiian vacation, and then he'll start a tour in January that will eventually bring him back to NYC on February 2nd for a show at Nokia Theatre. Tickets for that one aren't on sale yet, but they are for a lot of other dates.

Lupe (and Jill Scott) was also just nominated for a Grammy. Does he care that much?

Ian AstburyNah. I was thinking about this one, though, I was kind of pondering the importance of a Grammy nomination. It can really affect sales and things of that nature. We’ll see if I win one. It’s starting to be the little things that matter to me. Like, last night I got invited out to see The Cult, with Ian Astbury, and he shouted me out on stage. I’m a big fan of Ian Astbury. I think The Cult is a little bit before my time, but I’m a big fan of Ian Astbury’s due to a lot of the stuff he’s done with UNKLE. So, yeah, it’s more those little things and occurrences, which are the milestones. Like, “Frank Sinatra went over to Sammy Davis Jr.’s house and they had a barbeque.” It’s starting to be like, “Damn, guess who I was just with yesterday?” I got a chance to perform with UNKLE, which was phenomenal. It was with a live band, we were all in Vegas. Some people might be like, “Who the hell is UNKLE?” But for me it’s like, “Damn.” Those are the stories I’m gonna tell my kids. This is the part where I was going to post Lupe's entire new album for you to download for free, but then I read THIS, so you'll have to just stream it instead. All dates below....

I have to finish what I started, and I guess that would be compiling the world's biggest collection of people dressed as Amy Winehouse for Halloween. I was already up to 92 pictures. By the end of this post you'll have seen another 166. Some are great, and more than a few paired Amy with her boyfriend Blake Fielder-Civil. This photo falls into both of those categories....

Amy Winehouse

Even more looked less like Amy, and then there were many Amys that decided to hang out with Pete Doherty instead of Blake - a pairing that makes a lot of sense from the English musician drug addict tabloid point of view. This picture falls into both of those categories....

Amy Winehouse

In related news,

After Amy Wino's hideous performance at the MTV Europe Awards last night, she was booed when she accepted an award for Artists' Choice. Pete Doherty immediately came to her defense.

He was asked what advice he would give Wino, "I wouldn't give her any. She's fine. It's all bollocks. People should leave her alone. I went for a drink with her earlier today and she's totally fine. Perfectly healthy and happy.
"People are saying she's out of control, but she's not. She's a sensible girl and she knows what she's doing. She ain't doing nothing wrong." [dlisted]
Then there was Amy with Lily Allen...

Amy Winehouse

and even Amy with M.I.A....

Amy Winehouse

Now we'll get to more Amy's in a second, but first: To answer my own question, "no", Amy is no longer playing the MTVu Woody Awards or Saturday Night Live due to visa issues. Oh well - not a big loss considering how scary her last live appearance was. That video, and a zillion more Amy impersonators, below.....

Ozzy Newborn

Ozzy Osbourne issued a press release late Thursday that blasted police in Fargo, North Dakota, for staging a sting operation in his name before his concert Monday night at the Fargodome.....

....Osbourne, who denied prior knowledge of the sting, said he took personal offense to Laney's scheme.

"Instead of holding a press conference to pat himself on the back, Sheriff Laney should be apologizing to me for using my name in connection with these arrests," Osbourne said in his statement. "It's insulting to me and to my audience and it shows how lazy this particular sheriff is when it comes to doing his job.

"Sheriff Laney went out of his way to tarnish my reputation by implying that I somehow attract a criminal element, which is certainly not true," Ozzy continued. "My audiences are good, hard-working people who have been hugely supportive of my music for nearly four decades. They have also been very supportive of my wife Sharon's colon cancer charity by raising over a million dollars (partly through VIP ticket sales) at my shows. It's obvious to me that this sheriff has an agenda and is just trying to make a name for himself on my back." [MTV]

And speaking of, or about, Ozzy....
Alice Cooper has claimed that Ozzy Osbourne's reality TV show The Osbournes ruined his career because it left his fans disappointed. The rock legend insisted that by allowing the world into his house the Black Sabbath singer ruined the mystery surrounding him and made him a laughing stock. Cooper said: "Most fans thought he lived in a big, dark castle with skeletons in the cellar. When that show aired they knew he was just some guy who potters around his Beverly Hills mansion. It was meant to be some kind of comedy but the audience was laughing at Ozzy, not with him. And as a close friend, that made me very sad." [digital spy] (via)

Daft Punk

The Vegoose festival happens in Las Vegas this weekend. Daft Punk play Saturday night (they go on at 10:15pm), but I can't figure out if they'll be one of the performances streaming at AT&T Blue Room. Probably not, so at least those of us who can't be there have this thingee to keep us occupied....

Viva Las Vegas

As someone who:

  • missed Daft Punk's show in Coney Island
  • missed Muse's show at MSG (not a huge Muse fan, but people keep saying you HAVE to see them live)
  • missed Rage Against the Machine at Coachella and Rock the Bells (honestly not dying to see them again, but kind of want to too)
  • has seen the reunited Iggy Pop & The Stooges, and think they're awesome, and would love to see them perform their classic album Fun House from start to finish (like they did in London in 2005)
  • likes to see shows by artists like M.I.A., Ghostface, Mastodon, Blonde Redhead, and Gogol Bordello
  • likes to roll in Sin City and play the nickel slots 'till the sun comes up...
...VEGOOSE (Oct 26-28, 2007 in Las Vegas, Nevada) is looking really tempting.

P.S. This Thursday August 16th is the 30th anniversary of Elvis' death.
