Victims @ Best Friends Day (more by Chris Boarts Larson)
Victims

Due to the oncoming apocalypse (how they are selling it anyway), the previously discussed Victims show with Defeatist, Grudges, and DBCR at Acheron on Sunday (8/28) has been cancelled. Stay tuned, as this show MAY be rescheduled. Saturday's show at Acheron, featuring Brickeater, Gang Signs and VYGR is also CANCELLED.

Little Ozzy
Best Friends Day

While a rain (and wind) delay is shutting down our city currently, a rain delay only shoved back set times by an hour at the final show of Best Friends Day 2011 on Sunday (8/21) at the Bike Lot. Featuring a headlining appearance from Corrosion of Conformity, Victims, Iron Lung, Magrudergrind, Little Ozzy and Dry Spell, the show also featured the final performance from the reunited Jesuit who played NYC in April.

Magrudergrind will hit NYC with Despise You at Shea Stadium on 9/11 as part of their tour together.

Our pictures from the previous day of BFD are HERE and HERE. Pictures from all bands at The Bike Lot except Magrudergrind (who we missed) are below....

Ringworm @ 924 Gilman
Ringworm

Ringworm is currently on the road with a helluva tour behind them, as Nails and New Lows are currently joining the Cleveland band on their road to 'This is Hardcore' fest in Philly. After This is Hardcore, Ringworm will link up with Victims, Kings Destroy, Gang Signs, and special guest NYHC tough guys Killing Time (!) to play Saint Vitus on August 13th. Tickets are on sale for this 21+ event.

Saint Vitus is one of a few dates scheduled for Swedish d-beat greats Victims, who will kick-off their US tour at the Brooklyn show. The band will tour the East Coast, logging dates at Best Friends Day and another NYC show on August 28th at Acheron. There the band will be joined by Defeatist, Grudges and DBCR as part of a closing to their US tour. The flyer for this all ages show is below. Victims released their latest LP A Dissident earlier this year.

From Ashes Rise is also scheduled to play This is Hardcore, and will hit NYC for an 18+ show on August 15th at Public Assembly with Fuck The Facts, Full of Hell, and Night Birds (who have a new LP coming). From Ashes Rise have added another date, August 14th at The Barbary in Philadelphia, with Victims. All Victims and From Ashes Rise dates are below.

Resurrection will also play This is Hardcore and New Brunswick.

Victims at Lit Lounge in 2009 (more by Paul Birman)
Victims

In May 2009, the killer triple bill of Victims, Trap Them, and Black Breath hit two NYC heavy music staples, The Charleston and Lit Lounge. As you can see in our pictures of the cramped Precious Metal show, that bill also included Black Anvil!. The show was one of Victims' last U.S. dates, but the Swedish band has announced that they will return this summer to make an appearance at Best Friends Day in Virginia with Converge, pg.99, Iron Lung, COC, and a slew of other notables. Rumors of a U.S. tour are circulating but if you want to be sure to catch them, head down to the already stellar Best Friends Day. Just be prepared to get hurt.

In 2009 Victims were touring off of their Killer LP (in name and adjective). Now they have a new LP now called A Dissident which is due April 12th in digital/CD form via Deathwish, and vinyl form via Tankcrimes. With A Dissident, the d-beaters have returned with another crusty thirteen (how appropo) track bludgeoner, which is streamable in its entirety below!

Trap Them

Trap Them

"Much like label brethren Trap Them (oft believed to be of Swedish origin), Victim's power lays in their earthy roar and their direct, fat free apocalyptic barrage that is built on the simplest of elements, i.e. rattling beats, pounding bass, stabbing riffs and, most importantly, raw, raw vox, frantically bellowed without respite. Unlike Trap Them, there appears to be no urge to push their sound forward into the 21st century, no, no, no, Victims seem content on raging as if it was 1989 against everything and everyone." [Teeth of the Divine]
Victims, Trap Them, and Black Breath teamed up with Black Anvil to play Lit Lounge last night (5/25) as part of the previously discussed Precious Metal 3rd Anniversary Party. If you missed out, then save June 11th on your calendar, because all three (sans Black Anvil) will be in Brooklyn at The Charleston on that date. Tons of pics from last night's assault are below...

Trap Them @ Knitting Factory (more by Zach Dilgard)
Trap Them

Three years of any kind of party in NYC is a milestone. TONIGHT (5/25), Swedish crusties Victims, BV faves Trap Them, upstart badasses Black Breath, and the recently added Black Anvil will be at Lit Lounge to help celebrate the third anniversary of Precious Metal. The show is part of a larger tour for Victims, Trap Them, and BB, that will conclude in Philadelphia on 6/12 and includes another date at The Charleston on 6/11.

Trap Them are coming off of a triumphant tour with Napalm Death (photos from NYC here) including one stop at Maryland Death Fest with the mighty Bolt Thrower.

Decibel Magazine recently ran a piece on Precious Metal's three year anniversary, and the man behind it, Curran Reynolds (who we interviewed last year).

All dates below...

Hull
Bloody Panda

Brooklyn's own Hull will release Sole Lord via The End Records on May 26th. Spanning ten tracks over 44 minutes, and boasting art work by Josh Graham, look for the the band to kill it TONIGHT (4/16) at Union Pool when they open for the mighty Withered joined by Book of Black Earth and Hallux.

Withered's OTHER touring partners, Marduk, will enter Endarker studios in early May to record the follow-up to Rom 5:12, or their eleventh studio album. Look for it to drop in September, followed by the Funeral Nation World Tour 2009 and into 2010. Marduk will be at Irving Plaza on May 21 with Withered and Mayhem. Tickets are still available.

It a stroke of awesome luck, KARMA TO f'n BURN will be in NYC next monday (4/20) at Lit Lounge along with the mighty Tiger Flowers. Clear your schedules.

Landmine Marathon who I to NYC tommorrow (4/17) to slay The Charleston, are currently taking a break from writing their new album for Prosthetic. No word on when that record will show its ugly face, but in the mean time, make sure to... get. Your ass. To. The. Charleston!

Ringworm are currently writing their new album, The Ninth Circle, hoping to hit the studio this summer for a fall release on Victory Records. Ringworm dropped The Venomous Grand Design on Victory in 2007.

Saint Vitus LIVE (more by Firebaugh)
Saint Vitus

Over the past weekend (April 11), Saint Vitus played a single US date in New Orleans, where they were joined on stage by Pepper Keenan (Down, COC), Jimmy Bower (Down, Eyehategod), and Phil Anselmo (Pantera, Down). Luckily there was a camera in attendance, and you can watch the entire show here. Saint Vitus will headline at Roadburn this weekend. Me jealous.

Municipal Waste have announced completion of Massive Aggressive, their new album recorded with Zeuss. Look for it August 24th on Earache. Meanwhile, you can face the Waste at Roseland with Lamb Of God, Children Of Bodom, and As I Lay Dying. Tickets are still available.

Victims have added Raging Speedhorn guitarist Gareth Smith, and will drop a new 7" entitled Lies Lies Lies on Deathwish. Meanwhile, make sure to catch the Swedish crew on tour with Trap Them and Black Breath!

The previously announced Buried Inside date as part of Show No Mercy (5/3), will serve as one date on a four stop New York state tour. Show No Mercy at Public Assembly is scheduled for 5/3 with headliners A Life Once Lost, Rosetta, and repeat offenders Wetnurse.

Trap Them @ America in New Brunswick, NJ
Trap Them

Trap Them played two area shows in the past few days, April 8th at a New Brunswick, NJ basement show, and April 11th at the much bigger Gramercy Theater supporting the mighty Napalm Death. Justina caught the quartet in NJ (pics in this post), and though she missed their set at Gramercy, she did catch them outside the venue (the other pics in this post). I caught their Gramercy set.

Coming on at 7:30 as the first of a five band lineup is no easy task, but Trap Them played a tight set of hardcore and grind influenced Swedish Death Metal to the half-full Gramercy Theater. Fantastic as always, but now with new drummer Jeff Lohrber (Harlots, Dead To Fall, Today Is The Day). He replaced Mike Justain. Admittedly, Lohrber was off putting at first; he is so smooth and relaxed behind the kit, playing blast beats like he's in a jazz band. It took me a few songs to realize that this smiling drummer was actually pulling it off, and well. I will miss the showy intensity of Mike Justian, but Lohrber got skills.

You'll have more chances to check out Lohrber and Trap Them in the coming months, as the band lined up more tour dates with Swedish d-beat monsters Victims and promising newcomers Black Breath including May 25th at Lit Lounge as part of the Precious Metal 3rd Anniversary and June 11th at The Charleston. All dates below.

Seattle's Black Breath recently dropped their self-released EP Razor To Oblivion, and are streaming the whole thing at their myspace. The band has also made the title track available for download, check out "Razor To Oblivion" above.

Lords... and they're angry! Typocracy)
Lords

I bid you good day kind sir and m'lady! May I also say Fuck All Y'all Motherfuckers! That is definitely one album that I have had on blast all this week... the new record by spazzy Louisville hardcore freaks, Lords! Check out "Blasphemy Act" from Fuck All Y'all... currently streaming over at their myspace. Of course it isn't all gravy for dem Kentucky boys. Let's cut to the chase:

Matt Jaha will not be playing bass in the band anymore, and rather than cancel the upcoming tour Eric and I decided to do it as a two piece...I just get some more amps to make up for the bass...
Check out the long version for a tale that includes flailing fists, and flying guitar cabinets. The band is searching for a suitable replacement who must "be able to play the songs". Sounds reasonable. Best of luck, my dudes.

The mighty Anaal Nathrakh have finished writing their new album, the follow-up to the critically-lauded Hell is Empty, and All the Devils are Here from 2007! Mick Kenney is currently shaping the songs in the studio and hopes to have V.I.T.R.I.O.L.'s vocals done in February for an album release in June of 2009...

Victims
victims

Deathwish has signed one of my favorite crusty European bands, Victims! Look for the band to re-release Killer on Deathwish later this year.

As we discussed earlier, Jarboe dropped Mahakali while Early Man dropped Beware The Circling Fin on The End Records. Want 'em both? Email BVCONTESTS@HOTMAIL.COM (subject: Early Jarboe) and win one of three sets of BOTH the Early Man EP on 10" vinyl and the Jarboe CD. Include your first and last name, winners will be contacted. Meanwhile, dig on Jarboe's "The House of Void" available for download above.

Whaaa? A surprise Saviours show at The Charleston?

Tickets for the previously mentioned Kreator tour that will swing through Nokia Theater on April 8th go on sale 11/01 at noon.

Watain LIVE from The Knitting Factory, Slayer, The Hellacopters, Genghis Tron, Cynic & The Sword, all as This Week In Metal continues....

Landmine Marathon

I think its safe to say that I am a smidge eager to get my dirty little hands on the new Landmine Marathon. Due October 28th on Level Plane, Rusted Eyes Awake features guest throat by Jonny Davy (Job For A Cowboy) and Antony Hamalainen (Nightrage) and is the follow-up to this year's awesome split with Scarecrow (mems Repulsion, Noothgrush, Dekapitator, Exhumed). Check out "Bile Towers" available for download above!

Toxic Holocaust has posted four songs from their vicious new rabid dog, An Overdose Of Death (due Sept 2nd on Relapse). Check out "Gravelord", "War Is Hell", and "Endless Armageddon" at their myspace and download the ravenous "Wild Dogs" above! The band is currently working on a video for "Wild Dogs", we'll let you know when that drops.

Jesu will drop the Why Are We Not Perfect? EP which is the Jesu part of their recent split with Eluvium with some added bonus tracks. Look for that on August 19th via Hydra Head. Jesu recently dropped their split with Battle Of Mice on Robotic Empire.

Heaven & Hell, Metal Masters Tour, PNC, NJ - Aug 9, 2008 (kitty kowalski)
Metal Masters

In what has to be a first, Black Sabbath (or, in this case Heaven & Hell) have apologized for NOT playing their hit "Neon Knights" at both NY area Metal Masters shows. In related Metal Masters news, Testament has been added to the NYC date of the previously mentioned Children Of Bodom, Between The Buried and Me, and (now official) The Black Dahlia Murder tour.

Tombs are currently hard at work on their new album Winter Hours. It's the follow up to the their collossal self-titled debut on Black Box (Mike Hill of Tombs's label). Look for it to land in Feb of 2009. Meanwhile, the boys are readying a tour of Europe including dates with faves Capsule, Pulling Teeth and Ultra Dolphins.

The Haunted, Trap Them, more Metal Masters, Clutch, Baroness and much more below...
