Victory Records has been there for me from an early age until the present. From Earth Crisis to Minus to Bury Your Dead, they release some of the best heavy music around. Following up the promise of last year's EP (More Than You Can Handle), Beneath the Sky have proven worthy of the pedigree set by Victory's list of triumphant acts.
Hailing from Cincinnati, Beneath the Sky craft intense metalcore with all of its trappings (blast beats, practically danceable riffing, general intensity). Vocalist Joey Nelson follows the path laid by John Henry of Darkest Hour (another great Victory band) by taking a black metal approach, high pitch wails followed by guttural screams. In the ever splintering world of hardcore, both bands (along with All Shall Perish and Montreal's Despised Icon) have been classified as Deathcore. You can get dizzy mirco-organizing all of the subgenres - all you need to know is What Demons Do To Saints is one of the best heavy albums of the year.
