In the wake of the sell-out of A389 2013 in Baltimore, the label has expanded the two-day fest into a full extended weekend! A389 Anniversary will kickoff with a pre-fest show at Ottobar on 1/17/13 featuring Integrity, Withdrawal, Vilipend and Dead Gods , then come to a close with a Sunday matinee on 1/20/13 at Charm City Art Space with Left for Dead, Iron Reagan, God's America and Eddie Brock.
In addition to the previously discussed Friday/Saturday shows at Ottobar, Saturday (1/19) will now feature a matinee at Sidebar with Despise You, Gehenna, Dead in The Dirt, Ancient Shores and WarXGames AND an afterparty with Nothing (who recently toured). None of the newly announced shows will have advanced ticketing; you can only buy them at the door. Full show details are below.
Catharsis has only one show during A389 festival, so what does that mean? Could a tour be in the works?
In other A389 news, the label will release Devoid of Everything, which collects Left for Dead's entire 1996-97 studio output remixed from the original 1/4" multi-track reels. Check out the art above and you can stream a track below. Left for Dead members went on to play in bands like Cursed, Haymaker, Pick Your Side, Burning Love, and many many more. This rare one-time reunion (I was assured!) is not to be missed. Check out some thoughts on the reunion via Chris Colohan here.
If you're wondering who Iron Reagan is, the band is prepping to release their 20-track debut Worse Than Dead via A389 in 2013. The band features half of Municipal Waste and members of Darkest Hour and you can stream their demo below alongside details of the A389 festivities.

Canadians Vilipend aren't making any new friends with their vitriolic new LP Inamorata and that's the way they like it. Apparently the band isn't so chummy with landlords either, after bassist Michael J. Crossley was denied an apartment due to his "nefarious" associations. Quoth Crossley's potential landlord:
"I will be straight up with you both. We were quite ready to make a decision in your favour the other night.
However, upon investigation of the band Vilipend, it has brought forward some concerns for us. We are uncomfortable with the energy that this music manifests.
We really enjoyed meeting with you both and you have shown both professionalism and patience in this process. We thank you for that. However, we feel it is not the best fit for our house and our other tenants."
Inamorata isn't exactly unicorns and rainbows. The new LP, due via A389 Records on 8/16, carries on in the tradition of noisey hardcore like Converge and Botch with elements of sludgy misanthropy throughout. Check out "Last Stand of the Hopeless Romantic" which rears its ugly head for the first time below, alongside another three tracks from the record.
Vilipend are on the East Coast with NYC's Meek is Murder this August, and will swing through Lit Lounge on 8/20 to play a show with Tiger Flowers. All streams and tour dates are below.
Gehenna at A389 Anniversary 2012 (more by BBG)
Gehenna mixes raw black metal and hardcore with tons of nihilism, and the California band will venture to the East Coast for a string of shows surrounding their appearance at This is Hardcore 2012. Outside of Baltimore dates at A389 anniversary, these shows are a rarity, but thankfully you can look for Gehenna to hit NYC at Acheron on August 10th.
Joining "The Infamous" Gehenna in NYC will be DC death-doomers Ilsa, NYC's Psychic Limb and North Carolina's Young and In The Way (who played the BV/Power of The Riff SXSW Showcase), as part of a rare weekend for the latter. $10 gets you into the show.
Ilsa is preparing to release the new Intoxicantation 12" via A389 Records and you can get the first song to appear from that release, "Deadbeat's Ballad", for free on their recent label sampler. The sampler also has new material from the likes of Sick Fix, Homewrecker, Seven Sisters of Sleep, Vilipend, and many many more.
Speaking of Vilipend, look for the Canadian band to release their new LP Inamorata (which features "Cutting Heartstrings" on that comp) in the coming months. The band has a few tour dates as well, including a pair of stops in NYC: June 9th at ABC No Rio with Hivesmasher, Ramlord and Dead//Beat and August 20th at Lit Lounge.
A listing of all known Gehenna tour dates, plus song streams and videos, are below.

DIY is the name of the game for Florida's Dark Castle, as the duo has garnered a ton of buzz on the southern metal scene as of late due to their self-released EP and incessant touring. The northeastern touring love is on the way (this summer?), but in the meantime, Dark Castle's new LP, Spirited Migration is out NOW in digital formats (iTunes, amazon) with one of those amazing tracks, "Awake In Sleep" available for download above! Spirited Migration is due on May 26th in hard formats (CD, Vinyl) via the mighty At A Loss Records, so y'all wax lovers betta recognize!
Nebula will illustrate truth in advertising on July 7th when the trio drops their new album, Heavy Psych. Tee Pee Records will plead guilty to releasing the follow-up to 2006's Apollo, which includes "The Dagger" downloadable above. For the unaware, Nebula features former members of Fu Manchu, Mondo Generator, and Karma To Burn (who recently played Lit).
Australia's dark kings of blackened thrash, Destroyer 666, will release their NEW album on July 14th via Season of Mist! Defiance will be D666's first release in six years and first LP in seven, and will have artwork that'll look a little somethin' like this:
Another set of Aussies, black metallers Nazxul, will release their first new material in more than ten years via Moribund! Look for more details on the new album, Iconoclast, in the months ahead as well as some US dates.
Show No Mercy on June 7th at Public Assembly is SET with the recent additions of the the ungodly Woe, Black Anvil, and Snake Sustaine (mems-ALOL) to the previously announced Salome. While we wait for the show, you can check out some recent interviews that the guys in Woe did here, here and here. Flyer is below.
