"Went to The Hold Steady & Titus Andronicus
at the BK Bazaar. Effing brill." - Kevin Plunkett

Craig & Patrick @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar
The Hold Steady

The Hold Steady, Titus Andronicus, Wakey! Wakey!, and W/O played the final night of Brooklyn Bazaar on Saturday (12/17). Like he's done in the past, Patrick Stickles of Titus Andronicus joined The Hold Steady on their last song of the night, "Stay Positive." Titus played a show at Europa one night later and you can catch Patrick again at Shea Stadium tonight (12/22).

The Hold Steady's Craig Finn will return to NYC in February for two solo shows at Mercury Lounge (2/29) on his 2012 tour, which also includes a Maxwell's show on March 1.

Pictures from the first two nights of Brooklyn Night Bazaar are HERE and HERE. More pictures from the third night, and The Hold Stead's setlist, below...

DOM @ Pier 54 (more by Chris La Putt)

Last week when we announced the 12/16 BrooklynVegan Presents holiday show with Fucked Up at Brooklyn Night Bazaar there was still one band TBD. Well it turns out here that the "D" in TBD stood for Dom. Yep, we're pleased to announce the poppy Worcester, Mass quintet round our our five band line-up. You can stream the entirety of Dom's still fresh Family of Love EP at the bottom of this post.

So let's recap. Here's what you're getting for your very reasonably-priced $10 ticket: Fucked Up, Dom, Big Troubles, Caged Animals and Radical Dads, plus Frankie Rose (and myself) spinning tunes. Brooklyn Night Bazaar is a three-day holiday shopping, eating, drinking and music extravaganza all under one roof, just a few blocks from the Bedford L stop (specifically 149 Kent Ave at N.5th St.). It's free to get in the shopping area; getting into the shows is extra.

In addition to our night, on Thursday, December 15 it's a headlining DJ set from James Murphy, plus the Crystal Ark Party Machine, Poolside (who were recently added too) and Midnight Magic; on Saturday, December 17 it's The Hold Steady plus Titus Andronicus, Wakey Wakey and W/O. For those curious about the shopping and eating side of things, a full list of vendors is here. Hope to see you there.

Click through to listen to Dom's new EP, and check out the Brooklyn Bazaar flyer.

Fucked Up at House of Vans in July (more by Chris La Putt)
Fucked Up

BrooklynVegan is really in the holiday spirit this year. In addition to the BV holiday party with Anna Calvi and Eleanor Friedberger at Music Hall of Williamsburg on December 13 and the Twin Sister/Widowspeak/Ava Luna show at Bowery Ballroom on December 17, we've added a third BV Presents show to the holiday themed mix.

We're psyched to be presenting a full evening of bands at Brooklyn Night Bazaar on Friday, December 16, headlined by Toronto's amazing Fucked Up. Making things more festive will be Big Troubles, Caged Animals, Radical Dads and one more we'll be announcing shortly. DJing in between bands will be Frankie Rose  and myself. Tickets are a Bob Crachett-friendly $10 and on sale now.

If you don't know, Brooklyn Night Bazaar is a holiday shopping, eating, drinking and music extravaganza happening Dec. 15 - 17 at a giant warehouse in Williamsburg (149 Kent at N.5th). Shopping and food vendors is free, you gotta pay to see the bands. Thursday 12/15 is James Murphy DJ set with Poolside, Crystal Ark and Midnight Magic, and Saturday 12/17 is The Hold Steady with Titus Andronicus and Wakey Wakey. Full list of vendors is here.

Do come out it should be fun. (Did I mention it's only ten bucks for our night?) Flyer for the Brooklyn Night Bazaar is below.

Dean & Britta played Galaxie 500 in August (more by Chris Gersbeck)

Dean Wareham Plays Galaxie 500 is already happening at Music Hall of Williamsburg in December. Turns out, Dean and friends (Britta, etc.) will be doing the same thing much sooner as part of CMJ. The new show takes place at Bowery Ballroom where they did the Galaxie 500 thing previously, one night after the same show at Rock Shop. Catch them at Bowery Ballroom again on Friday, October 22nd, on an eclectic bill with Crocodiles, Wakey! Wakey!, Brian Bonz & The Major Crimes, James Vincent McMorrow and Young Buffalo. Tickets are on sale now (you can also try and get in with your CMJ badge).

And actually, Dean & Britta do a "13 Most Beautiful...Songs for Andy Warhol's Screen Tests" set earlier that same night (10/22) at NYU's Skirball Center. Tickets for that are up too. That makes at least two CMJ shows for Dean and Britta who were part of our own CMJ show at Bowery Ballroom in 2007.

For Crocodiles this gig comes a few days before they kick off a tour with Golden Triangle at Maxwell's.

Recent live videos are below...

LC Festival

Local Correspondents, an independent music community, is hosting the 3rd Annual LC Fest May 13 - 19, 2009 at Bar4 in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The festival will include short sets from over 60 singer/songwriters and bands located in Brooklyn and New York City. This year the festival also coincides with the 4th anniversary of Local Correspondents. All performances are free to attend.

Local Correspondents is a supportive community for independent artists based in Brooklyn. Weekly showcase series and open mic nights have brought together an extremely talented and diverse group of performers over the last four years. LC offers a helping hand to artists that have just moved to the NYC area with advice, tips, and opportunities to play.

Bar 4 is definitely one of the most under-the-radar venues NYC has to offer. More on the LC Fest with full lineup/schedule, below...

Roosevelt Live

Free show series Roosevelt Live will happen this summer on Roosevelt Island's Riverwalk Commons. The shows, scheduled for Saturdays at 4pm, will feature mostly local acts. Scheduled performers include piano-fronted band Wakey Wakey, indie-rockers Frances, Brooklyn country dude Alex Battles (of The Whiskey Rebellion) and local comedy/stunt troupe Improv Everywhere.

Improv Everywhere is the group responsible for the No Pants! subway rides. It most recently pulled off an April Fool's Day stunt where the group showed up en masse to a random, underattended funeral to make it "The Best Funeral Ever." It turns out the whole thing was staged, a fact the CW11 piece on the stunt failed to note (videos below).

Another recent-news tidbit from the Roosevelt Live performers, Frances frontman Paul Hogan scored indie-doc Must Read After My Death, which played at Manhattan's Quad Cinema in February and is now available for download at Gigantic Digital. Frances also plays the 92YTribeca on Saturday, April 4th with The Subjects and Glass Ghost. (Tickets for that show are on sale.)

Frances' Roosevelt Live performance takes place on June 20th, the same day that music blogger collective "After The Jump" is planning a festival on the same island. No more details on that one yet.

Full schedule (and flyer) with videos from the above-mentioned acts (plus a Coldplay tracked video of Roosevelt Island) below...
