The strong "Anything in Return" (Carpark), Mr. Bundick's recently released third full-length album, can't help but feel like a response to the womb he was born of. It's by far the most muscular of his work, even if his version of muscle is a thin sinew, only lightly flexed. Still, it's not chill. Not totally, at least. His show at Webster Hall on Wednesday night highlighted the difficulties of shaking loose of the calm and moving toward squall.
Even at its most raging, Toro y Moi's music is an insular proposition, which in a room the size of this one, has its limitations.
At times, the mood was shamanistic -- there was smoke in the air, and the light show was throbbingly vivid. When Mr. Bundick went into psychedelic-soul freakout mode, it had moments of transporting power. - [NY Times]
Chillwave survivor Toro Y Moi rolled through NYC this week on his current tour with Wild Belle and Dog Bite, playing Webster Hall on Wednesday (2/13, as reviewed by the Times, above) and Music Hall of Williamsburg last night (2/15). Backed some sleek, '80s-inspired lighting, Chaz and his band tore through a good chunk of his brand new Anything in Return and select cuts from his two previous LPs.

Wild Belle @ Internet Week

I thought it was a little weird that Chicago band Wild Belle was playing a random NYC show, aka the Internet Week party that happened at "IWNY HQ" on Mercer St. Monday night with MNDR, but then I just read this:
EMI Music Publishing has signed a global songwriting deal with hotly tipped American duo Wild Belle. Here are some pictures from their new hometown show. More below...The agreement, which is effective immediately, was sealed by EMI Music Publishing UK's Guy Moot, president UK and European A&R, and Dan Lloyd-Jones, VP A&R, with EMI Music Publishing North America's Jon Platt, president of North American Creative.
Originally from Chicago and now hailing from Brooklyn, New York, the sibling duo of Natalie Bergman and Elliot Bergman started gathering a fan base after posting their first track to their Bandcamp page, 'Keep You', earlier this year.
Roger Faxon, EMI Group CEO, said: "EMI is the perfect home for Wild Belle and I'm thrilled that Natalie and Elliot have chosen to join us.
