Noise-folk singer Tara Jane O'Neil, who we last heard from on the Karen Dalton tribute earlier this year, is in New York at the moment. Having recently played a Hudson, NY show, she has two in NYC this week.
The first is Tuesday (8/18) at Union Pool with prolific experimental musician Samara Lubelski and Sapropelic Pycnic (aka Kathleen Baird, of Spires That In The Sunset Rise and Circuit des Yeux's band). That's $10 at the door. More info here. Then she plays Max Fish on Thursday (8/20). That's at the venue's new Orchard St location (120 Orchard) and will have Tara playing as a trio with Ryan Sawyer and Wilder Zoby.
After that she does a residency with James Kidd at BOFFO on Fire Island. Starting September 5, Tara says, "We will be working on a new piece for 2 weeks. we will present this work in progress at a yet undetermined location in Fire Island Pines." Her only other announced date is Denver's Goldrush Music Fest in September.

Tunde Adebimpe with TVOTR at Pitchfork Fest (more by Dominick Mastrangelo)
The free summer shows at Union Pool continue Saturday (8/6). When we first announced the Summer Thunder series, Saturday's lineup was TBA. It's since been confirmed that Stabbing Eastward (featuring Tunde Adebimpe of TV on the Radio and Ryan Sawyer of Tall Firs), Path of Least Resistance (with Sean Kennerly of Samiam) and Wilder Zoby will play the Brooklyn venue on Saturday. The FREE event kicks off at 4PM and will also have "TOO MUCH FREE JAMESON" (note capital letters).
In other Union Pool Summer Thunder Series news, the 9/24 lineup, which initially listed Lord & Master with Special Guests, now lists Test House, Free Blood (featuring John Pugh formerly of !!!), and Devin, Gary, & Ross, who have a new album out on Pete Nolan's (of Spectre Folk) label Arbitrary Signs.
