DOWNLOAD: Omega Male - Omega Male (MP3)
As mentioned previously, Fugiya & Miyagi are in the U.S. for this weekend's Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle but are stopping in NYC this week to play Glasslands on Thursday (8/30) with Hess is More and Wishes. Tickets for that show are still available.
While Fujiya & Miyagi are between albums, frontman David Best has formed a new musical venture called Omega Male which is a collaboration with Sammy Rubin of Brooklyn's theatrical electroppers Project Jenny, Project Jan. While Best seems to be the dominent force in this partnership -- his breathy delivery remains intact and you could imagine these being F&M songs -- the instrumentation, which includes a lot of non-analogue snyths, definitely gives Omega Male a different feel.
The Omega Male album will be out in October via Full Time Hobby but you can download the album's lead track (and group theme song) at the top of this post. Cover Art for the album and a stream of that track are below.
A couple shows at Glasslands in August we should point out. On their way to Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival, Fujiya & Miyagi will stop by on August 31 for a show at the Williamsburg venue with Hess is More and Wishes. Tickets for that show are on sale now. It's their only other U.S. date scheduled at the moment. Did you go see them at Glasslands back in January?
And then the next night (8/31) Glasslands hosts Slow Club for what is their only current American date we can find. The show is with Secret Cities and tickets for that show are on sale now. Something must be brewing. Slow Club were here back in February. The band just released a video for new single "Beginners" (you may recognize it's star, even without the lightning bolt scar, watch it below) and are currently wrapping up recording for a new EP.

Sinkane, who you may know as current Yeasayer multi-instrumentalist/former touring drummer for Of Montreal and Caribou, Ahmed Gallab, is set to release his third LP, Mars, which is due out sometime this year. He's got a few songs on soundcloud, including the newish cut "Jeeper Creeper," which pretty much recall a similar brand of psych pop to those aforementioned groups that he's played with. You can stream "Jeeper Creeper" along with a few tracks from his two previous albums below. The new album will feature contributions from Twin Shadow's George Lewis and Yeasayer's Ira Wolf.
Ahmed Gallab will make his live debut under the Sinkane moniker in Brooklyn on March 11 at Cameo with Chandeliers and Wishes (Akwetey from Dragons of Zynth). He's also got another Brooklyn show scheduled to happen at Glasslands on June 7. Tickets for the Glasslands show are on sale now.
Sinkane is also one of the many artists on the just-announced Crossing Brooklyn Ferry lineup, which was curated by Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National and goes down from May 3 - 5 at BAM. Sinkane play on May 4, the day that St. Vincent headlines and Ava Luna also play.
Gallab was a touring member of Eleanor Friedberger's live band in the past. He will not be playing with her on her upcoming tour with Hospitality which hits The Bell House on April 18. Tickets for that show are still on sale.
