Toro Y Moi at Bowery Ballroom (more by Toby Tenenbaum)
Toro Y Moi

Shortly after enjoying a relatively leisurely summer compared to his year so far (SXSW, Bowery Ballroom, Mercury Lounge) , Toro Y Moi will hit the road after Labor Day for a string of U.S. dates that will include a stop at Webster Hall on 9/14 with Ava Luna. Tickets for Chazwick Bundick's biggest NYC show yet go on sale at noon on Friday (5/20).

Toro Y Moi welcomed the Underneath The Pine LP in February, and will follow it up with the Still Sound Remix 12" via Amazing Sounds on June 13.

Toro Y Moi recently made a mixtape featuring awesome names like King Tubby, Dorothy Ashby, Ennio Morricone, and Goblin. In related news, Goblin's Claudio Simonetti will play Santos Party House on May 24th as part of Daemonia, his metal band that updates classic songs by Goblin. They'll be joined by Wolf Eyes and tickets are still available.

All tour dates and some video is below.

Richard Pinhas at Secret Project Robot
Wolf Eyes & Richard Pinhas

Wolf Eyes performed with an altered lineup, subtracting Nate Young, while adding Aaron Dilloway and the legendary Richard Pinhas (of Heldon) known to many as the "Father of electronic music in France", whose influence was palpable throughout the set. The music itself was composed of parts collected from across a broad, sweeping palate that spanned the experience and knowledge of every person onstage, with each member contributing recognizable aspects of their own sensibilities, while deferring to the enigmatic vision of the whole. Beforehand, many in the crowd wondered what the combination of the serrated edged sound of Wolf Eyes and the usually measured Pinhas would actually sound like. The result turned out to be something that sat comfortably between the two stylistically, while pushing the conceptual boundaries of both. -[Pendu]
As the quote says, Wolf Eyes collaborated with Richard Pinhas at their show at Secret Project Robot with 99 and Yellow Tears on 9/30. If you missed it, WFMU posted audio from a similar show they did earlier that day, which you can stream and download, under the rest of the pictures from the Secret Project Robot show, below....

Wolf Eyes @ McCarren Pool's last show - August 2008 (more by Lori Baily)
Wolf Eyes

Wolf Eyes, Black Dice and Growing will be playing a Wednesday, July 7th show at Secret Project Robot. Already 300+ people have confirmed on the gig's Facebook page, so getting there early is probably a good idea. Wolf Eyes and Black Dice don't appear to have any other shows scheduled at the moment.

Growing, whose only other scheduled show is ATP in the UK in December, just released a new album, Pumps, in April on Vice Records. Two tracks from that are above. VBS.TV interviewed the band about their history and live show. That's below with a flyer and more videos...

Whartscape

"For 4 years now Wham City has been organizing the WHARTSCAPE. What started as a summer warehouse party turned into a much bigger, multi-day outdoor festival with thousands of bands, performers, and folks traveling to Baltimore from all across the US and Europe.
Since, we organize this festival out of pocket and in our spare time, it is important for us to keep it comfortable and enjoyable for us to do. One thing we talked about at the end of last year's festival was shrinking it down slightly and having it feel more community based and familiar.

This year isn't focused around headliners, but mainly performers and friends that make up the community we tour, work and live in.
We are also greatly reducing the number of MEGA-PASSES (the 3 day pass ticket that grants you entry to every show and every day).
ONLY 300 Mega-Passes will be sold; this is the only guarantee that you can see all the shows.

Tickets will be sold to the individual shows, but it is strongly suggested that you buy a Mega-Pass, as it saves you money and assures you take in the entire poo-poo.
Whartscape will take place July 10-11-12 at the Baltimore Museum of Art, Maryland Institute College of Art Studio Center Parking Lot, and Load of Fun.
We will begin selling tickets at 12 Noon, Monday, June 29th.

Text of Light

When Lee Ranaldo is playing with David Watson and Tony Buck, it's called Glacial. When Lee is playing with Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore, and Steve Shelly, it's called Sonic Youth. If it's Lee and Alan Licht (and friends), then it would be Text of Light, and that's who played Knitting Factory in NYC earlier this month with Demons (Nate Young of Wolf Eyes) and Nancy Garcia..

The Text of Light group was formed in 2001 with the idea to perform improvised music to the films of Stan Brakhage and other members of the American Cinema avante garde of the 1950s-60s (Brakhage's film 'Text of Light' was the premiere performance and namesake of the group). The original premise was to improvise (not 'illustrate') to films from the American Avante-Garde (50s-60s etc), an under-known period of American filmic poetics. [SonicYouth.com]

Sonic Youth @ McCarren Pool

Sonic Youth @ McCarren Pool

The poster says "McCarren Pool Bye Bye" because Saturday's show (August 30, 2008) was billed as the last show ever at McCarren Pool. If the city has their way, that statement will be true for McCarren Pool, to quote Thurston Moore, "as we know it". That may not be 100% true though because the current renovation plans include some type of "performance space" along with the water. More pictures below....

"the Dead C are a New Zealand based noise rock trio made up of members Bruce Russell, Michael Morley and Robbie Yeats." [Wikipedia]

Dead CDead C

...The Dead C have announced a brief Stateside visit, kicking off in Philly on the 12th and wrapping just a few days later in the Chi. All kinds of noiseniks and other weirdos are coming out of the woodwork to support the Dead C on this trek, including Thurston Moore's Northampton Wools project, Wolf Eyes, Six Organs of Admittance, and Sightings.

So what's the occasion for this rare overseas voyage? Why, a new Dead C record, naturally. Secret Earth packs in four presumably long tracks and arrives October 14 on CD and vinyl thanks to Ba Da Bing.

But that's not all! Ba Da Bing is also teaming with Jagjaguwar to reissue on vinyl a pair of Dead C classics originally released by New Zealand's legendary Flying Nun label (the Clean, the Chills, the Bats, the Verlaines, etc). [Pitchfork]

NYC are the lucky ones with Thurston Moore on the bill and those tickets are on sale. All dates and a live video below...

Wolf Eyes
Wolf Eyes

Detroit noise anti-heroes, Wolf Eyes have unleashed the latest in a long line of limited ed. tapes, lathe-cut LPs, split LPs, 7"s, and CD-Rs (come on guys, no player-piano scrolls?)...... a new collabo LP with Sickness. Out on Hospital Productions, aka Dominick Fernow's label and store of the same name, I would imagine you can probably pick up copies at their (meaning Wolf Eyes, Sickness, AND Prurient, Fernow's project) show this Saturday, April 5th, at Cake Shop.

Tonight (April 4), Wolf Eyes are scheduled to open for newly reformed dark electronic godfathers Absolute Body Control (their first US show EVER) (and who have TWO records out now on Daft) along with Martial Canterel at a shindig curated by and also starring Carlos Giffoni (of No Fun Productions and No Fun Fest fame).

Tickets are still available.

No Fun Fest details were recently released.

Wolf Eyes tour dates and ABC flyer below.....
