NY Post is liveblogging the Yankees parade
11:25 a.m. -- A calm and cool-looking Alex Rodriguez sporting a black fedora and shades as he waits for his float to arrive so he can jump on and revel in the celebration. As the crowd continued to chant "A-Rod," Rodriguez just stood there blowing bubbles with his pink gum. What else?11:11 a.m. -- Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a staple at Yankee games, makes his way up the parade route.
Bruce Springsteen & Lisa Lampanelli backstage @ Town Hall (Caroline's)

The New York Comedy Festival runs through Sunday. It kicked off last night at Town Hall with the "Stand up For Heroes" benefit...
[Host Brian] Williams walked onstage with a laptop and opened his monologue with the words: "Yankees 2, Phillies nothing." There was loud applause from the New York crowd missing Game 6 of the World Series.Assuming Mariska uses those MSG tickets herself, she'll get to see one of two Bruce albums performed in full for the first time. Louis C.K. performs again during the festival at Caroline's on Sunday. Ricky Gervais was there and plays again at Carnegie Hall tonight (11/5). Andy Samberg was probably not there due to watching the Yankees game, but he will be at Town Hall as part of the festival on Sunday. More shows are listed in our original post and at the fest's website. He quipped that he wanted to be a full-service provider onstage and offer sports and weather updates in addition to covering the news. Williams also shared jokes about military food and being from New Jersey.
[Bruce] Springsteen threw in a few jokes, including one about Pepsi having created a drink that includes Viagra and that is called "MountAndDo."
One of his guitars and four Madison Square Garden tickets were then auctioned off by auctioneer Jamie Niven, the son of actor David Niven, for $50,000. "Law & Order: SVU" star Mariska Hargitay walked away with the goods to much applause.
Louis C.K. had the audience in stitches with edgy material about divorced life and his kids.
Colbert offered some topical humor, talking about his experience visiting the troops in Iraq, which he described as hot and dangerous, "like Texas with fewer guns." He also described a former Saddam Hussein palace as mindful of a house decorated by "The Real Housewives of New Jersey." [Hollywood Reporter]

On the World Series, which he'll be kicking off on Wednesday with a performance of "Empire State of Mind":Yes, Jay-Z will be performing "Empire State of Mind" with Alicia Keys before Game 1 on Wednesday. The video for that song below...Jay-Z: I actually predicted the Yankees in six with the Angels, so I think I'm like Jigga the Greek. I'm gonna say, Phillies are a bit tougher than the Angels. I'm gonna take Yankees in seven. Dramatic A-Rod walk-off at the end of the game redeeming him for all the time the papers and the media vilified him. Is that specific enough?"

The new Citi Field received a Beatle baptism Friday night.Paul was also Billy's guest at the final Shea shows. Two more Paul shows at Citi Field to go - the next of which is tonight (Saturday, 7/18). More pictures, some videos, and the complete setlist from last night, below...Paul McCartney offered the first musical concert at the sterling new venue, an apt parallel to the Fab Four's historic, kick-off show at Citi Field's predecessor, Shea Stadium, 44 long years ago.
Of course, several key differences between 1965 and today made themselves immediately clear.
This time, everyone could hear. And the only "girls" who screamed were gently prompted by Paul.
As a further reference to history, Paul brought out a special guest at one point - Billy Joel, who last summer closed down the crumbling Shea.
Together they performed a song from the '65 performance, "I Saw Her Standing There." [The Daily News]

The Yankees have scratched plans to host one final farewell to the stadium, disappointing New Yorkers who were counting on a last visit to the House that Ruth Built. The team had promised a final salute in November, which fans speculated would be a star-studded goodbye to the doomed stadium.
"The Yankees were considering having a charitable event at Yankee Stadium," team spokesman Howard Rubenstein told amNewYork, reading from a prepared statement. "However, the Yankees realize that the final event at Yankee Stadium should be a baseball game, which in fact took place on Sept. 21, 2008."...
...No firm plans had been made for the stadium's goodbye, no tickets sold and no acts booked, but there was plenty of speculation. Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and Jay-Z were all rumored to be among possible performers. [AM NY]
Old stadium, new stadium

The Yankees confirmed that Sunday's game will not be the final event at Yankee Stadium. It was reported earlier this week that a Nov. 9 ceremony and concert will be held to celebrate the stadium, though the club has not confirmed that date or accompanying details. [MLB.com]The NY Times has a related article written by Paul Simon.
There's a rumor that the Yankees are/were trying to get Bruce Springsteen and/or Paul McCartney to play the final show.
VOA News says, "The stadium has also hosted three Popes - Paul VI, John Paul II and Benedict XVI - all said mass there. Former South African president Nelson Mandela led a rally there, and there have been numerous music concerts there including by U2, Billy Joel and Pink Floyd."

"Buzz is building that the Yankees are cooking up a musical extravaganza for the Stadium's closing ceremony in November. Word is George Steinbrenner and son Hank want something to rival the sayonara shows that the Mets got Billy Joel to do at Shea. Mentioned to perform at the House That Ruth Built are Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney, though sources close to both rockers weren't aware of any discussions. A Steinbrenner rep had no details."
