Tinariwen @ Le Poisson Rouge (more by Tim Griffin)

Tinariwen are touring North America in the first quarter of 2010. Tickets recently went on sale for 2 NYC shows. It's a long journey for the band from Northern Mali (assuming they still live there), and it's a chance for us to again see the artists who made the "best world music album" of the decade (according to the Times Online)...
"The Tuaregs' debut, recorded in a Saharan radio station, is the sound of the sands, stones and emptiness, filtered through a woozy wall of guitars. Today they are genuine rock stars, but this, in all its ragged glory, is the one."Their whole list is below...

A few people have emailed asking if I knew if Robyn was really added to the All Points West lineup. As far as I know, yes, but I see that she still hasn't been assigned a stage or day. I also just noticed (thx Mike) that Grizzly Bear was added to the lineup, and at least one person pointed out (thx Steven) that Youssou N'Dour is no longer listed. Further scientific analysis reveals that Black Kids aren't on there anymore either. Three stage, three day schedule pictured above.

Youssou N'Dour (born October 1, 1959 in Dakar) is a Senegalese singer and percussionist. In 2004, Rolling Stone described him as, in Senegal and much of Africa, "perhaps the most famous singer alive." He helped develop popular music in Senegal, known in the Wolof language as mbalax, a blend of the country's traditional griot percussion and praise-singing with the Afro-Cuban arrangements and flavors which made the return trip from the Caribbean to West Africa in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s and have flourished in West Africa ever since.
