Pete Swanson (formerly of Yellow Swans) will release his new EP, Punk Authority, this Tuesday (3/12) via Software/Mexican Summer. Similarly to his past work, it's an EP of eardrum-damaging technoise, and you can stream the entire thing along with the music video for "Grounds For Arrest" below. That's the album art above.
Pete will celebrate the new EP with a release party in Brooklyn on Friday (3/15) at 285 Kent. It's a Bunker party and also includes Silent Servant, Metasplice, and The Bunker's Bryan Kasenic. Tickets for that show are on sale now.
Streams and video below...

Williamsburg is getting a big, fancy new dance club very soon. Located at 74 Wythe (at N. 12th St.) right by Brooklyn Bowl and Wythe Hotel, Output is a 452-person-capacity club that is planning on opening in the next few weeks, with additional plans for a rooftop bar and restaurant. The club will focus on techno, house and other EDM styles. While the exact opening date has not been set, February 22 will be the first edition of Bunker to happen there, with DJ sets from Speedy J, Peter Van Hoesen, and Mike Servito.... and the fact that Bunker is doing a party there actually gives us hope that this place is not just going to end up catering to a Pacha-Jersey-Shore-like crowd. That said, Bunker will continue to host parties at Public Assembly just a few blocks away after February, for now anyway.
The new club "will be the new North American showcase room for Funktion One, featuring some next generation equipment you wont find anywhere else." I'm sure it's going to sound amazing in there.
Flyer for the Bunker party at Output is below.

Dominick Fernow at Public Assembly in 2011 (more by Louis Caldarola)

NYC party The Bunker is celebrating its tenth anniversary this week on Friday (1/4) at Public Assembly, where they've been throwing their parties for the last 5+ years. The party will take place in both Public Assembly rooms with all four Bunker resident DJs (Derek Plaslaiko, Bryan Kasenic, Mike Servito, and Eric Cloutier), in addition to Reagenz aka Move D (live), Spacetime Continuum, Silent Servant, and Vatican Shadow (live). Tickets for the party are on sale now.
Vatican Shadow (aka Dominick Fernow, formerly of Cold Cave, and also the brains behind Prurient) released the album, Ghosts of Chechnya, back in October via Hospital Productions. You can stream the track "Chechnya's Ghosts Loom Large in Death of Former Spy" from that album below.

Love it or loathe it, New Year's Eve is coming. Here are some of this year's NYC concert options, of which there are many.
One of the biggest shows of the night is Coldplay and Jay-Z at Barclays Center. If you've seen pictures of Coldplay's tour this year, you know they have this bluetooth controlled, light-up wristbands that (no matter how you feel about their music) makes for a spectacular interactive experience. And certainly Jay-Z will throw a good party at his own house.
Jay-Z's pal Kanye West is doing a three-night run in Atlantic City right before NYE (12/28-30) at Revel. Tickets for those shows are still available.
Another hip hop option includes Nas at Radio City Music Hall that also features Elle Varner. Tickets are still available.
Azealia Banks is playing a black tie party on top of The Standard Hotel (aka Boom Boom Room). More info is at the facebook event. You can RSVP for tickets ($250 minimum) by emailing unifiedpromo@unifiedpromo.com.
Also in the biggest NYE show race there is also Phish's sold-out night at MSG, part of a four night run at the venue.
If jam bands are your thing, you might also want to catch The Disco Biscuits, who kick off their four-night run at Best Buy Theater tonight (12/26) and then play NYE at The Theatre at MSG (tickets).
Another jammy option is Gov't Mule's two-night run at Beacon Theatre (12/30-31). Tickets for both nights are on sale.
If you're more into dancing, RJD2 will be DJing at Gramercy Theater with Com Truise and Chrome Sparks; and Moby and many others will be DJing at an as-yet undisclosed location (tickets).
Pretty Lights is also doing two sold nights at Roseland Ballroom (12/30-31). Another dance option that you might want to avoid is Afrojack is playing two nights on Pier 94 (12/30-31), but it's worth mentioning that if you get there early on night 1, you can catch opening sets by Diplo and Rusko. Night 2 (aka NYE) is sold out but night 1 is still on sale.
Brooklyn dance party The Bunker is throwing an event at the 70 N 6 St loft (above Public Assembly) with John Roberts, Mike Parker, Bryan Kasenic, and Mike Servito. Tickets for that party are on sale now.
Downstairs at the actual Public Assembly, Gaze 4 Daze is throwing two queer parties. Room 1 has DJ sets by Rizzla, Sebastian, and D'Hana, along with Emcee Ryann Supamakenzi and host Cherlyn. In room 2, they've got MIchael Magnan, Amber Valentine, Telfar, Mursi Layne, host Helen Harris, and live performances by House of Ladosha, Cakes Da Killa, and Abdu Ali. $10 at the door gets you into both parties.
Brooklyn warehouse party group Rubulad is presenting "Party-Go-Round" in three separate secret Bushwick locations near the Jefferson L stop. There will be live music by Friend Roulette, Not Waving but Drowning, Viva, and more; dance parties with music by DJ Shakey, Ol' Stark, DJ Mojo, $mall ¢hange and more; a puppet show, a midnight champagne toast, and more. Admission is $20, the events start at 9 PM, and there will be a party bus to navigate between the three locations.
Matthew Dear and Superpitcher are at Le Bain (tix); Ian Pooley, Pat Mahoney and more at Cameo; Onra, Nick Catchdubs, and Samo Sound Boy are at Williamsburg's Villian (tickets).
Holy Ghost! and Midnight Magic are at Brooklyn Bowl (sold out) and after that, Holy Ghost!'s DFA labelmate Juan Maclean will DJ an afterparty at the same venue (tickets).
Chris Keating of Yeasayer is DJing a BangOn!NYC-presented party at a secret warehouse location in Williamsburg near the Montrose L stop with Felix Cartal, Chordashian, Alex English, Sean Glass, and many others. There will also be live music by Carousel, Suntalk, and more TBA, art installations, an inflatable obstacle course, food trucks, and more. Tickets (more info at that link) are on sale and RSVP is open. Location will be revealed with the purchase of tickets or an RSVP.
If you'd rather dance to classic soul and R&B, there's New York Night Train Annual Dusk Till Dawn New Year's Ball at Home Sweet Home featuring a live performance from Kid Congo and the K-Holes, plus Jonathan Toubin and a crew of DJs.
For the indie rock inclined, you could go see Titus Andronicus at Glasslands which is a pretty small venue for them these days. While So So Glos were originally on the bill for this, they have since dropped off. Dapwell, formerly of Das Racist, is your MC for the evening and tickets are still available.
Right next door at 285 Kent, Florida's (awesomely) mopey Merchandise will visit, plus Blanche Blanche Blanche, Tonstartssbandht and "speciial guests" (note the two ii's is "speciial") will surely be a wild night. Dive in, tickets ($20) are on sale now.

Meanwhile across the Hudson, The Hold Steady will ring in 2013 with Lucero at The Wellmont Theatre in NJ. Tickets are still available.

Demdike Stare/Andy Stott

Modern Love labelmates Demdike Stare and Andy Stott have been playing shows together for a while, and they'll continue to do so in NYC on October 5 at Public Assembly for a Bunker party, after they both play Seattle's Decibel Festival, and after Demdike Stare plays ATP NY (9/23). Demdike Stare and Andy Stott play the front room with both members of Demdike Stare opening the show with solo sets, while Peter Van Hoesen and Eric Cloutier play the back room. Tickets for that show are on sale now. The flier is below.
Demdike Stare and Andy Stott just played the Boiler Room together last week (8/14), and videos of both of their sets are below. They also shared a bill in Berlin last November, which Resident Advisor reviewed, and gave it a 5/5, writing:
The seamlessness of it all climaxed with Demdike Stare, who coupled their spirit-summoning techno set with a pastiche of visual horror that, for the first part, turned the entire crowd to stone, a spell eventually weathered over a suspended course of time by the pair's metrical hypnotism. By the end of their set, the whole floor had been brought back to life, though at what stage exactly I cannot say, being fully entranced myself. Modern Love labelmate Andy Stott similarly toyed with danceability, using the pull of disparate tracks alone to sweep us from eyes closed head nodding into a flailing limbs rave-up, almost unconsciously.Andy Stott, who had two great releases in 2011 (Passed Me By and We Stay Together) will follow those with a new album called Luxury Problems. A tweet from Modern Love earlier this month revealed that the album was in its mastering process, and that more info is to come.
Demdike Stare's Miles Whittaker put out his own album this year under the moniker Suum Cuique, called Ascetic Ideals. You can stream that entire album, along with the Boiler Room videos and a list of all dates, below.

Italian ambient duo Voices From The Lake (aka Donato Dozzy and Neel) released their self titled debut full length earlier this year. The album builds off looping, trancelike patterns, but differs from similarly loop-based music by relying more heavily on textures than hooks. Most tracks on the album fade into each other, obscuring when one ends and another starts. But it's not an album made for the song-skipping world anyway -- its 70+ minutes are meant to be listened to uninterrupted. So if you'd like to hear it that way, do yourself a favor and pick the album up somewhere (maybe Amazon). But in the meantime, you can stream some tracks from the album below.
Voices From The Lake will make their live North American debut in NYC at The Bunker at Public Assembly in Brooklyn tonight, Friday (7/6). That show also includes DJ sets from Donato Dozzy and Neel, in addition to sets from Omar-S and Bunker regulars Spinoza, Mike Servito, and Eric Cloutier. Tickets for that show are on sale now. The flier for this show is below, along with a list of all dates and those song streams.

Laurel Halo at PS1 in 2011 (more by Amanda Hatfield)

Brooklyn's Laurel Halo, who has two solid EPs under her belt and another coming on Mute's new Liberation Technologies label (that one was supposed to come out this week, but has been pushed back), just announced that she's signed to Hyperdub, the label founded and run by Kode9 and whose roster also includes Burial. The label will release her debut full length album, Quarantine, on June 5 in the US and May 28 in Europe. The album art and tracklist are below.
Laurel's got two upcoming appearances in NYC including a techno party at Glasslands on April 13 with Korean Beauty Slaon and Rem Koolhaus (probably DJing?) and a live set during Unsound Fest at Warsaw on April 20 with Ital, Demdike Stare, Hieroglyphic Being, Zemi17, and Monolake, who are all also playing live. Tickets for that show are on sale. The Bunker party flier is below.
Ital meanwhile plays in Brooklyn TONIGHT (3/21) at Knitting Factory with The Suicide of Western Culture and Octo Octa. Tickets are available.

Tommie Sunshine @ Hiro Ballroom - May 22, 2008 (CRED)

This past weekend was not one of the best I've experienced, but there were some good moments: Thursday night at Hiro, Tommie Sunshine dropped an hour and a half of very interesting, highly danceable, wobbly/fidgety house. Sunday night I got down to a decent, fun set by VDRK at Damn! at the Knitting Factory. He played Fred Falke's Love Theme which was absolutely amazing to hear out.
The less exciting parts of the weekend were Junkie XL's set at Hiro, which started off fine, but got a bit repetitive. Then it went from really hard stuff to a very mellow track which you probably would've appreciated a lot if you were on drugs, otherwise it just seemed a bit cheesy.
People getting down @ Damn! @ the Knitting Factory - May 25, 2008 (CRED)

The second disappointing part of the weekend was Apparat's set at the Knitting Factory. The show sold out. The Knitting Factory was as packed as I had ever seen it and people were actually dancing. But I just could not get into it. I went into this show loving what I had heard of Apparat thus far, but I found their live show to be very underwhelming. They had a few moments where they were rocking, but other than that it was just kind of eh. The parts that were more guitar-driven and rocking reminded me of the past few times I saw m83 (who are currently on tour and will be in town next week) a few years ago and once that happened they were all I could think about. I realize that m83 and Apparat are two different bands, trying to accomplish different things, each with their own sound, but they were similar enough that I felt as though I was watching a far inferior version of an m83 show.
From the looks of it, this week in dance should be much better. Fortunately/unfortunately most of it is happening on the same night:
Friday (aka TONIGHT - MAY 30).......

Part 1 talked about last week, and last night. Here's what else is going on this weekend in NYC...
Justin Miller & Jacques Renault

Justin Miller and Jacques Renault are at Savalas for Pure Magic on Friday night (tonight - April 18, 2008) . Resident deejays for what will hopefully be many more 205 Tuesdays, Jacques and Justin really know how to throw a great party and pack a floor. You are physically unable to resist getting down to their expert disco/house/who knows selections. Friday should be no different, plus they've brought in Max Wowch to add to the madness. Warm up your boogie shoes before you head out Friday night with a modern mix Jacques and Justin did as a part of the DFA Radiomix Series.

Matthew Dear @ Galapagos (bunker) - April 4, 2008 (100five)

Hey,If anyone has anymore details, please contact me and I'll pass it on. Matthew Dear is opening for Hot Chip tonight (April 8) at Music Hall of Williamsburg.Just a quick note to let you know about some fuck up stuff that happened yesterday night (April 4) at Galapagos Art Space, during Matthew Dear show.
Matthew, who was celebrating his birthday yesterday, had been playing a killer set for 2 hours or so. Suddenly he got a message on his computer saying that his hard disk drive was unplugged...
The music stopped, he checked and found out that the drive was actually missing... basically someone STOLE his hard drive in the middle of his set and ruined the all show!!!
This is SO WRONG!!! The management of the place asked people if they had seen anything, but nobody did, and the guy probably ran away...
FYI, Matthew just moved few month ago from Detroit to Brooklyn. We are privileged to have him here. Shame on the guy who did this.
If you need more details, you can contact me. Thank you.
