Dubbed "Operation Swill," the year-long investigation found the establishments fooled customers so they could charge higher prices and bolster their profits, according to a statement released by the state Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control." [NJ.COM]
Willie Nelson's mugshot
Forget the Tea Party -- country music legend Willie Nelson has a different kind of movement he wants you to join.Support Willie Nelson in his trek for decriminalization by joining the Teapot party, or just support him when he hits the road for a string of dates in December and in the new year. Full tour sked is below, and quite a few (non-NYC) dates are on sale and/or pre-sale.
"There's the Tea Party...How about the Teapot Party? Our motto: We lean a little to the left."
Nelson, 77, was arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol for possession of marijuana last week, despite the fact that he was roughly 100 miles [from] the U.S. border at the time.
"It's supposed to be a checkpoint only for aliens, and [agents] overstep their authority all the time," Texas attorney Dick DeGuerin told Rolling Stone. "I've had several cases from that checkpoint and they just use the opportunity to check out anybody they want to."
...If Nelson's new party succeeds, he won't be a lawbreaker anymore.
"Tax it, regulate it and legalize it," Nelson wrote. "And stop the border wars over drugs. Why should the drug lords make all the money? Thousands of lives will be saved." -[About]
Two of those dates (2/13 & 2/14) will go down at Austin City Limits - Live, the studio that houses the famed series which recently relocated. The show's new home, Moody Theater, will begin taping shows there in early 2011. The new location is now walking distance from the main drag that is 6th Street.
I'm not sure of Wavves' political affiliation, but I am guessing he's all for switching to the Teapot party. He just got arrested for pot in Germany. Hopefully he's more careful on his upcoming tour with Best Coast. There won't be a smoke-filled tour bus that asking to be pulled over since, well since Willie Nelson.

"An Arizona woman who bought, what turned out to be, counterfeit Phoenix Coyotes playoff tickets helped police nab the suspected scalper with a picture of his license plate. In the guy's apartment, they found other fake tickets including some for a Brooks & Dunn concert... The video news report is below...
Mari Alfaro discovered the tickets for sale on Craigslist, and after meeting up with the alleged scalper, Mario Cox, she bought them for $200. But, according to a report on KTVK-TV, Alfaro had a funny feeling about the transaction, so before Cox could drive off she snapped a photo of his license plate." [Ticket news]
"Market hotel busted by twenty cops!" - The Smith Westerns
Saturday night's Smith Westerns show at Market Hotel got cut short thanks to a group of cops that showed and told everyone to leave (possibly due to a noise complaint, possibly due to "business inspection", maybe because The Smith Westerns were peeing all over the place, or possibly just because the cops felt like shutting it down). What this means for the large DIY venue
remains to be seen. Upcoming shows there include High Places (April 8), Trans Am (April 18), Harlem (April 23), Sleigh Bells (May 11), and Pissed Jeans (June 19). The next scheduled show is Tuesday, April 6th with Darwin Deez. Hopefully it's still happening.
As of this writing I'm not sure if The Smith Westerns ever got to play anywhere Saturday night. There was talk of the show moving to Party Expo, but that didn't seem to happen. Regardless, you can catch the band at their next NYC show which takes place tonight, Easter Sunday, at Mercury Lounge with Male Bonding (who played MHOW with The Soft Pack last night) and So Cow.
For So Cow it's one of two NYC shows on his current tour (all dates below). The next one takes place a few days later, April 7th at Death By Audio with Sunday Times, The Surpriser (ex Cause-comotion) and The Babies (pictured above).
For The Babies the Death By Audio show is one of many chances to see the Vivian Girls/Woods side project this month. The very next chance happens to be tonight (4/4, Easter) at Don Pedro with WetDog who Bill said were good the other night (they played Glasslands and Death By Audio). If you don't remember that Wetdog were playing this third NYC show tonight, that's because it's actually not in their tour dates (but it is listed by the venue and the Babies).
The Babies are also playing with Best Coast and The Bitters at Knitting Factory on Tuesday (4/6) (tickets still on sale). Maybe you caught Best Coast when they opened for Japandroids at Bowery Ballroom. You can also catch them Monday night (4/5) at the Meatlocker in Montclair and Wednesday (4/7) at Mercury Lounge with The Bitters again (tickets) (no other Bitters dates anywhere).
The Babies will soon also kick off a very short tour with Titus Andronicus in CT on April 11th. That tour hits Rodrigues Coffee House at Fordham University in the Bronx on April 13th and SUNY Purchase the next day. Titus also plays a Babies-less early Men Can Stop Rape Benefit show at Red Hook High School on Sunday, April 11th (before the CT show).

Nearly 35 pounds of Psilocybin (hallucinogenic) mushrooms baked into about 500 chocolate peanut butter cups were intercepted by Murfreesboro Police vice detectives before being sold at Bonnaroo music festival beginning Thursday in Manchester. There really is no telling.
Vice detectives Wednesday raided the Kingwood Drive home of suspect Charles Culver, 22, and located the illegal drug with a street value of $10,000, said police spokesman Kyle Evans.
"We have seen an increase in LSD over the past several years and this is another form or substitute for that drug," Evans said.
"The affects are hallucinogenic in nature, similar to LSD. They are very dangerous and there have been incidents of people dying the first time they used this drug."
Origin of the mushrooms is not being disclosed.
"There's no telling how many lives these detectives have saved by keeping these drugs off the street and they should be commended for an outstanding investigation leading to these arrests," Evans said. [The Murfreesboro Post]

Bao spent all day Saturday (July 19) running from Siren stage to Siren stage taking pictures and watching bands. In a heat wave. He didn't really feel like going to Whartscape in Baltimore the very next day (July 20), but he did (just a little late).
At a minimum he was hoping to report back on the very first performance of Who Is The Tunafish Man? (aka the Dan Deacon, Girl Talk & Spank Rock supergroup). Unfortunately, lack of permits and cops stopped that from happening, AND Black Dice didn't get to play because of rain. White Williams, Adeventure, Dan Deacon, Trey Told Em, Grand Buffet, Double Dagger and many others played before Bao got there, which was in time to catch Ponytail and then Parts & Labor (the only band on Sunday's 14-hour Whartscape bill that were also at Siren the day before). On top of that, Bao forgot to charge his camera battery, it was hot again (especially at the late part inside that got busted), and the whole festival was eventually running almost 2 hours behind (not that it ultimately mattered). More on the timing, who played, and a few pics (he didn't take that many to save battery life for the headliners) below...
Cops showed up twice at the show happening in Sunset Park on Friday night (June 13, 2008). Frankpollis was about to go on around 2am. That's when the cops showed up for the 2nd time. That's when the party ended and approximately 8 people (including the guy in the above picture) were taken to jail without explanation to others at the party. Adam Green did not get to play, but he and his band were there and ready to go on last. He also wasn't arrested. More details soon.
