Sandro's SY window display on N6 St. (photo via @brooklynvegan instagram)

Walking out of last night's Merchandise show at Music Hall of Williamsburg, I did a double take seeing a store across the street with a Sonic Youth Confusion is Sex window display, one half with with the album's artwork on the window itself, the other half with a hanging t-shirt. The store is the Brooklyn branch of high-end Paris boutique Sandro and there's an entire SY collection available currently. The tee, which is made from 100% cotton and looks like something you used to be able to buy on Saint Marks for 10 bucks, goes for $95 and is actually one of the cheaper items. There's also a $340 "Day Dream" sweater, two different $110 knit ski caps and a bunch of other Sonic Youth album cover shirts ($95 - $130). N. 6th St sure is weird these days.

In other, more affordable and interesting, Sonic Youth-related news, Kim Gordon will play Issue Project Room on December 3. She's performing as a duo with guitarist Loren Connors, the first time they'll have done this. (Loren has played with Kim's ex too.) Gary War, who lives in New Zealand these days and hasn't released an album in a couple years, will open the show. Tickets to the show go on sale to IPR Members on Friday (10/17) and will be available to the general public starting October 24.

Meanwhile, Kim also has a couple Body/Head dates at Union Pool next month; and Lee Renaldo's art exhibition at One Mile Gallery in Kingston, NY is up through next week, and he'll play a collaborative set with Noveller at Lincoln Center next month. Thurston Moore and Steve Shelley will be in town next week with The Thurston Moore Band.

Grimes and her Ben and Jerry's
Grimes

Grimes, a well-known fashion fan (she co-hosted the red carpet at the VMAs this year), is currently making headlines for saying that she is annoyed at vegans who are annoying and tell she is not vegan enough, because she is a vegan that thinks it's okay to not be vegan 100% of the time. She wrote a tumblr post that reads:

this is something i was anticipating and have been meaning to address for a long time:

Part of the reason I posted the ben and jerry's thing is because I like to encourage people towards a type of veganism that is inviting and accepting. For the longest time I was vegan but I just wouldn't say I was because of the bad reputation of veganism. most of the vegans i know are dogmatic assholes, and it completely turns people off.

I believe more people would be drawn to having more ethical diets if they didn't feel bullied to do so, or if they felt they were entering a welcoming community.

My brand of veganism is one wherein if your grandparents have no idea what you are talking about then you eat their beef stew rather than upset or confuse them. or if you really want to have cake with an egg in it on the holidays then you have that rather than just not being a vegan because you don't want to give up occasionally having something that you love.

Ben and Jerrys is the only brand of ice cream i ever eat. their cows are treated ethically and beyond that they put a ton of money into researching green hydrocarbon freezers that would use alternative refrigerants which (unlike current freezer gases) do not contribute to global warming. they're also working on a bunch of other initiatives like using completely renewable materials in packaging.

this comment is why no one wants to be vegan. unlike this dude, i would like to fully encourage everyone to be vegan rather than scare them away. I love being vegan. my skin is better, i have more energy, i feel really healthy and i get sick way less than i used too and I'm not contributing to factory farming. that said, I also occasionally enjoy things i used to eat because it makes me feel good and i am less discouraged about not eating those things the rest of the time.

This post was spawned by a previous post that said she would put veganism on hold to try the new Ben and Jerry's flavor:
holy fuck there is a new flavour of ben and jerrys

1 day hiatus from veganism is being had starting NOw

also excuse the expletive, i try to keep the blog all ages but this is a pretty big deal plus i dunno honestly i knew the f bomb by the time i was 5 i would be shocked if u didnt already know it and yet have the reading comprehension skills to digest the rest of this post

We say, let her eat ice cream! But please rethink some of those wardrobe choices. And speaking of coats....

Jay Z

Rapper and man of many industries Jay Z has released a new Rick Owens-designed jacket (pictured above), which is obnoxiously made entirely of crocodile skin and which is being sold for $58,000 (though at least they're donating 100% of sales to the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation). The jacket is part of Jay's new holiday collection on Barneys, which includes other (slightly) less expensive items too. Happy Holidays everyone!

Grimes, who we recently caught at ACL, plays Mexico this New Year's Eve. Jay Z will tour North America throughout most of December and January.

A$AP Rocky @ Fun Fun Fun Fest - 11/03/2012
A$AP Rocky @ Fun Fun Fun Fest - 11/03/2012

If A$AP Rocky has anything going for him besides a few internet rap hits and some memorable moments dropping in on his friends' shows, it's that he's already got some pretty far out stories to tell. He recently revealed an interview with Hard Knock TV that he smoked weed with Daft Punk on his tour bus (hopefully in Colorado). Now he just needs to get them to play at his house!

He also declared himself a factor in evolving society's views on homosexuality. "I kicked down the door for kids that's my age, older and younger, to be able to wear Jeremy Scott sneakers, rips in their jeans and not feel gay," Rocky says. Because of him, kids can wear whatever they want and not have to worry about being mistaken for being gay. Yeah, that doesn't sound homophobic at all (it's a start though) (watch the whole thing in the video below - he means well).

He's also taken his fashion to another level, and now has his own limited edition T-shirt line. You can purchase one while supplies last at Karma Loop.

In 2013, he'll be able to add another epic story to his resumé, when he heads out on tour with Rihanna. That tour comes to NYC for the previously discussed show at Barclays Center on May 4, which is sold out, and also hits the same venue one day later (5/5), which tickets are on sale for now. Hopefully Rocky will have his new album, LongLiveA$AP, out by then which he has kept delaying. He's now hoping to get it out during the first quarter of 2013.

As mentioned, you can also catch A$AP Mob with A-Trak at Best Buy Theater on November 29 and A$AP Twelvy at Highline Ballroom on November 22.

A$AP Rocky also just played Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin this past weekend (as did Run DMC). You can check out more pictures from his set (like the one above), the video of that Hard Knock TV interview, and a list of all upcoming tour dates, below....

Jennifer Herrema poses topless for Pamela Love

Jennefer Herrema, who is not playing as part of "Royal Trux" at Saint Vitus (or at least we don't think so), did just appear (topless) on the pages of Purple.
