The last benefit for Matty No Times featured Gospel, and the band is back again with a similarly awesome lineup of Cleanteeth, Psychic Limb, Rats In The Walls, and Black Kites at Public Assembly on 4/17. All of the $10 cover goes toward Matty No Times and his staggering medical costs:

While we're scrambling around SXSW, NYCers also have a great show to look forward to this week! Gospel is scheduled to play Death By Audio on 3/19 with Pollution and Giancarlo Bracchi. The show is the only one currently on their schedule and is all ages.

Pollution is also scheduled to take on Stolen Sleeves on 3/18 with Chicago's Duress and are currently booking a June tour with White Lung.

Very excited to see one of my oldest favorite bands, GOSPEL, reunited tonight at Union Pool. - [TheUnknownGlow]
After three years away from the stage, and in front of a beyond sold-out crowd at Union Pool, Gospel made their triumphant return with the always unhinged noise punks Drunkdriver and galloping Tournament.

Though the band has been away from the stage a bit, they recently showed their hand with respect to new material... another show/record/tour? Possibly. More details to come, we'll keep you posted.

Drunkdriver has a ton of interesting shows in their near future as they prep to release their self-titled LP on Load Records. Look for the band at the WFMU/Aquarius Records, Load, and Parts Unknown shows at SXSW 2010. Before that, the band will play with Iron Age at Union Pool on 2/16 and intersect with another SXSW showcasing artist in NYC when they team up with Riot Season's Todd at Cake Shop on March 14th. The band is also scheduled to meet up with everyone's favorite massholes, Mind Eraser, at Death By Audio on June 9th.

Gospel

New York City post-hardcore act Gospel push the avant-garde tip of a genre already considered to be on rock's cutting edge. ...By 2003, the songs they were writing had evolved into art rock realms, drawing on everything from math metal to ambient music to space rock, and necessitated the addition of Jon Pastir (guitar, keyboards) to make it all work, both in the rehearsal room and on-stage. This led to their renaming themselves Gospel, and in 2005 they released their first full-length work, cryptically titled The Moon Is a Dead World. Late the next year, the band announced it was breaking up, though no reason was given. - [Allmusic]
Gospel's prog/emo/post-hardcore magnum opus The Moon Is a Dead World still strongly resonates today. Luckily, that "break up" didn't take, as the band has announced that they've written "an album's worth of new material" and will perform that at a show at Union Pool on 1/29 with Drunkdriver and Tournamentas part of a benefit for the ailing Matty No Times of Three Kings Tattoo. Some of that new material is streaming at their muxtape site. You can download a few tracks from The Moon Is A Dead World above.

Tournament is also scheduled to play NYC with Coalesce / Coliseum / A Storm of Light at Europa on 12/30. Get yr tix.
