In a world full of fear and ripe with insincerity its such a relief to have met Radiohead. This Sunday @ McCarren Pool: it's Liars, Fuck Buttons & Team Robespierre. All Liars dates below...
They are purveyors of truth, beauty and a moral responsibility to the planet.
We've been welcomed with literal open ams and thoroughly schooled on how to function as a band -not just musically, but ethicly too.
The honor is in learning from the best and from the beginning we've been in class.
The important thing for us to make clear is just how awe inspiring this production is.
We're not sure if there's any information made public about the efforts Radiohead go to to reduce their environmental impact.
But, there should be.
At the outset we were all given tour water flasks.
Plastic anything is like contraband.
Every bus and truck runs on bio-fuel.
There is no idling, rather some new-fangled way to deliver electricity cleanly.
They don't do air-freight either.
The list goes on..
Everything is supremely managed to reduce the 'footprint'
and it's inspiring in that its 'real' and should set the standard for other big productions.
This all goes beyond the immediate impact of simply
being able to watch these 5 guys perform together each night.
Unlike any band we've seen they all contribute such an immense amount to the outcome. Their extreme individual talents blending so naturally.
To witness this first-hand is an education in musicianship and vision that's certainly not been lost on us..
For now, we'd like to send our huge thanks to the Radiohead crew for being so super crazy nice and supportive to us.
We'll see them in Spain again for the Daydream Festival and of course during our West Coast tour with Radiohead in August -
so no tears yet..
We Liars head to Europe now...
following a luxurious 2 day break and will be re-tracing some of the steps missed due to the euphoria of living in rainbows.Love and Lobsters,
LIARS

"On the grass-roots level, cost has always been a concern for touring bands. But the nearly $2,500 in gas Garcia and his two bandmates would have had to pay just to make it to Vancouver, Canada, and back was too much to overcome." [an Associated Press article]Strangely the article doesn't even touch on sustainable touring and whether that might cut down costs while being friendly to the environment at the same time.
In the above picture, Les Savy Fav's Tim Harrington (having just stepped off Citysol's solar-powered stage) is sitting on top of These are Powers' vegetable oil-powered van.

As Conan points out, Radiohead are one of the "most environmentally conscious bands in the world." They just aren't as 'green' as Jack Johnson (or Dave Matthews or Pearl Jam) (according to Billboard)....

actual pie chart (Reverb)

I'm not sure exactly what the pie chart means, but I think as fans we could maybe be doing a better job if we ever want to catch up to Grand Transport. More stuff and tour dates below.....

Mute Records is proud to announce Jose Gonzalez' Green Tour of North America in the spring....in partnership with Reverb, a non-profit organization designed to educate and engage music fansand promote environmental sustainability. They work closely with artists to create earth-friendly events and tours. As part of the greening of Gonzalez' upcoming tour, his rider will include biodegradable catering products, and a reduction of plastic water bottles will be facilitated by providing his crew with re-usable water bottles to carry throughout the tour. In addition, Gonzalez and Reverb will calculate the CO2 footprint of the tour and neutralize emissions from venue energy use, ground transportation, flights and hotel accommodations by supporting clean renewable energy projects.I don't totally understand what they just said, but it sounds nice. Awareness is good, and it's probably better than NOT doing all that (whatever it is they're doing).
There will be a 50 cent add on to general ticket purchases that will support Reverb's greening efforts. Pre-sale ticket purchasers via Ticketstoday.com will also have the option to add an additional 50 cents to Native Energy's CO2 Offset program. At the shows, fans will have the opportunity to purchase a custom Jose Gonzalez sticker, the money from which will be used to purchase carbon offsets generated fromtravel to/from the show.
As part of the green tour, Jose is playing NYC twice: Highline Ballroom on March 11th, and Brooklyn Masonic Temple the next day. AND, he is also playing a shorter set @ Terminal 5 on March 6th as part of the Plug Awards (DID YOU VOTE YET?). All tour dates below....
