Pissed Jeans at House of Vans (more by Chris La Putt)
Pissed Jeans

Pissed Jeans, who haven't been very busy lately due to having kids, scheduled some shows this month including one in Brooklyn at Music Hall of Williamsburg last night (1/22), joined by Protect-U and Pop.1280. The show was another one-off for the punk band, but one of a few dates for Pop.1280, who are welcoming their new LP The Horror (stream the LP in full at SPIN). Did you go last night? How was it? blogTo was at the Toronto show:

"Beyond the onstage antics, the band played an incredible set. The crowd's favourite seemed to be the official last song of the night, "False Jesii Part 2." As soon as the band started playing it the intensity in the room skyrocketed and the structural soundness of the floor was tested to the max as the crowd bounced to the high paced rhythm. As the last song came to an end, fans were left wanting for more.

Pissed Jeans were happy to oblige, on one condition: "a rousing clap" was needed, at the request of Korvette. The crowd complied and the band played on. Ending their encore, the drummer, Sean McGuinness, leapt over his kit and into the crowd."

If you missed Pissed Jeans, here's some BIG news that should ease your mind. Pissed Jeans have been added to the now RIDICULOUS lineup of Ceremony/Rival Mob/Kim Phuc/Hoax/Gods & Queens at LPR on Feb 4th. Tickets are still available and only $5 in advance.

Kim Phuc will ALSO play an after-party with the new-look Night Birds & Nuclear Spring (ex-Nomos) later that night.

Chuck Biscuits

I can now say with 99,99% confidence that legendary drummer Chuck Biscuits is in fact alive and well! So what the hell happened yesterday? How did the rumor that he died of throat cancer start? Why did everyone believe it? Well, before the chain reaction of irresponsible blog posts and news stories (guilty), it all began with one James Greene Jr. James, according to the Boston Herald (one of the sources I read before posting myself) (and whose story credits Blabbermouth), is "a freelance music writer from Brooklyn, New York".

Though I didn't completely realize it at the time of my own hasty posting, James's Chuck Biscuits obituary was THE source of it all. Before I re-posted his words I had read about Chuck's death - in addition to at the sources mentioned above, in the BrooklynVegan comments, and was told about it via an IM, and saw that someone had updated Wikipedia with his death info (reliable, I know), and noticed via Google that Punk News had even put a "-2009" after his name and date of birth. The news was spreading fast. By the end of the day, at least 50 websites had reported that Chuck was dead.

At first glance James's blog post seemed super legit too. First of all, who would make something up about Chuck Biscuits? (Lars Ulrich maybe, but Chuck Biscuits????). It was a well thought out obituary which even sourced Chuck's family members (a "mass email" even), and (ironically) the post was tagged "Shit That Can't Be Real Yet Somehow Is"!
