Seven remaining mystery Yo La Tengo mixtape makers take note. According to eHow, if you want to "Make A Sad Bastard Mix Tape" you should,
"Program a few (relatively) uptempo songs into the mix. This might sound counterintuitive, but you will want to vary the pace of your mix tape so as to avoid having it turn into a "saddest music in the world" contest with the songs canceling each other out. A showdown between Richard Buckner's "22" and The Velvet Underground's "Pale Blue Eyes" is not what you want here. Yo La Tengo, Josh Rouse, and Ryan Adams are all excellent candidates for this job. RECOMMENDED: "Directions" by Josh Rouse; "To Be Young (is to be sad, is to be high)" by Ryan Adams; "The Lie and How We Told It" by Yo La Tengo. Was Thurston Moore's mixtape a sad mixtape or a happy mixtape?
Yo La Tengo continue their run of Hanukkah shows with mystery openers tonight (12/2). Richard Buckner appears in town for a one-off show at Mercury Lounge on Friday (12/3).
Don't be sad, but check out the video of Richard performing "22" in 1994, below..

Today we have an exclusive new mixtape from LA duo Classixx. We first saw these guys dj last summer in LA when they were known as Young Americans. We aren't sure of the legal reasoning, but they had to switch it up and become their latest moniker (which we feel is a million times better anyway).
Since then they have released a slew of originals and remixes. Our favorites are their remix of group Hellogoodbye and their own banger Cold Act Ill. You may have also heard the remixes they've done for TV On the Radio, Regina Spektor, and Imogen Heap. We are happy to be bringing them out for their NYC debut this Friday (April 4) at Hugs with Alan Astor. The show is free so you have no reason to blow it of... unless your excuse is just that you're catching them the next night because they're playing again at Hugs on Saturday too.
Grab the tracks above. Check out more tour dates below...

New York electro blog Palms Out Sounds presents a showcase of both New York-based and international deejays at Luna Lounge in Brooklyn tonight (Thursday March 20). Email RSVP@palmsout.com for $5 reduced list.
There are easily 10 people on the bill scheduled to deejay. One I think is especially worth checking out is AC Slater. Brooklyn based dj/producer/remixer AC Slater won me over a long time ago with his remix of Boys Noize's 'Shine Shine' (MP3 above), but he has also done a number of his own tracks which are quite good. (also see MP3s above)
This week AC also did a fresh mix for the increasingly popular No Love Lost Records (NLLR) Mixtape Project if you want an idea of what you're in for tonight, download that one right HERE
If you haven't already checked them out, NLLR is a record label with a great philosophy that will hopefully be releasing some excellent dance music in the near future. In the meantime their mixtape project has amassed enough great tunes to keep you moving for months. From their manifesto:
Established in September 2007 in Brooklyn, New York, by British born dance music aficionado Lee Norman Williams, No Love Lost Records is dedicated to discovering and developing the next wave of artists, DJs, and remixers. No Love Lost Records is an independent label that understands and respects the culture of dance music, and the endless drive to push the boundaries of what is both the most progressive and exciting music on the planet.Tonight's flyer and more details below below....No Love Lost Records also runs a very exciting, free to download, side-project called THE NLLR MIXTAPE PROJECT. This project is an ongoing series of exclusive showcase mixes representing all styles of dance and electronic music by the most progressive and talented DJs in the world. In its short existence the NLLR Mixtape Project has already received more than 275,000 downloads...
