Jonathan Toubin knows his way around a party which is to say he's an in-demand dude during this festive time of year. He's got his fingers all of the following events...
On Wednesday (12/17) at Baby's All Right he'll be DJing the Peace & Love Holiday Ball which features live sets from The Budos Band, The Citizens Band and "surprise guests." The Citizens Band and the Budos Band ( who just played the Daptone Super Soul Revue) usually play bigger places than Baby's so here's a good chance to catch them somewhere more intimate. Tickets are on sale and benefit The David Lynch Foundation and the Ringo Starr Peace & Love Fund.
Then on Saturday (12/20) at Brooklyn Bowl, it's the holiday edition of Soul Clap and Dance Off with special guest selector Charles Bradley. It doubles as a release party for Norton Records' Souvenirs of the Soul Clap Vols 1 & 2. Tickets for Brooklyn Bowl are on sale now.
On New Year's Eve at Home Sweet Home, Nothing Changes is presenting the "New York Night Train Annual New Year's Ball" featuring live performances from Kid Congo Powers & The Pink Monkey Birds, Andy Animal's All Male Revue, and the debut of PMS and the Moodswings (featuring members of Habibi). Toubin and Josh Styles will be DJing and tickets will be available at the door. More info here.
Then on January 3 at Brooklyn Night Bazaar it's a "Captured Tracks/New York Night Train HAPPENING!" featuring live sets from Juan Wauters and EZTV, plus Hula Hoop Harlot Melissa Anne, DJ sets from Toubin and C/T head Mike Sniper. That show is free but you can RSVP to skip the line.
Jonathan Toubin will also be DJing the Glasslands Holiday Party on Sunday (12/21), the Detroit Cobras show at Baby's All Right on 1/2 (which is Detroit Cobras' second of two NYC shows that week, following Bowery Electric on 12/30) and some other gigs as well. All Jonathan Toubin dates are listed below.

Glasslands just announced their New Year's Eve show, and now another Williamsburg venue, Baby's All Right, is announcing theirs. See you at the finish line!
Who do you think the four special secret guests will be? Yeasayer? Bear in Heaven? Das Racist reunion? Neil Diamond? Pearl Jam? Two Live Crew? We shall see.
Restorations (photo by Andrew Schwartz)
Heartland punks Restorations, who put out a great new LP this year and told us their favorite LPs of 2014, will return to NYC with their shoegazey Philly neighbors Creepoid for a free show at Brooklyn Night Bazaar on January 2 (the Friday after New Year's Eve). Also on that bill is The Yum Dee Days.
As discussed, Creepoid will also be in NYC on New Year's Eve to open for Quicksand at Saint Vitus. Online ticket sales are sold out (20 more tickets remain at the venue's bar), but those looking for '90s post-hardcore/emo on NYE might also like to know that tickets are still on sale for the Rainer Maria / Moss Icon show, and tickets are still on sale to see ex-Drive Like Jehu band Obits at Acheron that night.
Restorations only have one other upcoming date, and that's a show in their home state with their post-metal Philly neighbors Rosetta (who put out a new EP not long ago). It's a special show though, with Rosetta playing a "quiet instrumental set" and Restorations playing acoustic.
All Restorations and Creepoid dates are listed, with videos from both bands, below...
Star Slinger is playing a secret New Year's Eve show on the west coast and right after that hooking up with fellow beatmaker Trippy Turtle (aka maybe Cashmere Cat) for a short tour. That tour hits NYC on January 2 at Webster Hall (aka the Friday after NYE), and tickets for that show are on sale now. That's two days after Kiesza will get Webster Hall dancing on NYE. All Star Slinger/Trippy Turtle dates are listed below.
Star Slinger has also done a number of remixes recently. He took on "Won't Look Back" by Duke Dumont (who also gets NYC moving on New Year's Eve), iLoveMakonnen's "Tuesday" (that Makonnen played at Mercury Lounge and on "The Tonight Show" last night), Blood Orange's "On The Line," ODESZA's "Say My Name" and MAUSI's "My Friend Has Swimming Pool."
Stream all those remixes, with a video of Makonnen on "The Tonight Show" and the list of Star Slinger dates, below...

Quicksand at FFF 2013 (more by Tim Griffin)
Walter Schreifels has had a busy year, playing with two new bands, as well as getting in a few Gorilla Biscuits shows. Now his '90s-era post-hardcore band Quicksand have announced that they'll celebrate New Year's Eve at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn with support from Philly shoegazers Creepoid. Tickets for that show are on sale now and an additional 100 tickets will be available at the Vitus bar starting 7 PM on Sunday (12/7).
Tough New Year's Eve for '90s post-hardcore/emo/etc fans between this and Rainer Maria and Moss Icon.
Duke Dumont at Lollapalooza 2014 (more by James Richards IV)
Production wiz Machinedrum will headline a bill at Greenpoint party warehouse Brooklyn Night Bazaar. Also on that bill is Teklife's DJ Spinn & Taso and DJ Earl, Rinsed's Dan Wender & Blacky II, and more TBA. Tickets are on sale now. Machinedrum's promising a 3 hour extended set. He has a few other dates this month too and those are all listed, with the show flyer, below.
Meanwhile over at Slake, pop-house thumper Duke Dumont will be getting the place shaking along with Alex English, Hiyawatha and Dali. Tickets are on sale. Duke's also got other dates which are listed below.
Kiesza, the person behind the post-Disclosure pop hit "Hideaway" and its Williamsburg-friendly video, will be celebrating New Year's Eve in style at NYC's Webster Hall. Tickets are on sale now, starting at $99, and there's three different options that include more perks for more dough, like open bar or a VIP table. There's also after-hours tickets to keep the party going until 8 AM.
Webster Hall is also where Kiesza last played NYC, as part of Downtown Fest which she co-headlined. Her only proper, non-holiday/fest/promo/fashion-week/guest-appearance NYC show so far was her debut one which took place at Santos. Both Santos and and the last Webster one were great, though I personally would avoid Webster Hall on NYE.
Meanwhile, Kiesza's "Take U There" collaborators Skrillex and Diplo are playing their own previously-discussed NYE show at Madison Square Garden (tickets). Will Kiesza have time to scoot over to MSG for a bit and sing with them?

Obits @ BK Bazaar - 11/22/14 (via Kyle Page)
Brooklyn garage punk greats Obits played a one-off in their hometown this past Saturday (11/22) at Brooklyn Night Bazaar with Survival Knife, Hungry Ghost and Pink Avalanche. Anyone catch that? How was it? You can check out a video of them from that show, below.
Obits have now announced their next hometown show which happens New Year's Eve at Acheron, which is a pretty small venue and it sounds like this will be one of the rowdier NYE options in NYC. Tickets for that show are on sale now.
Obits frontman Rick Froberg is also one of the many Brooklyn artists taking part in this year's Brooklyn Rock Lottery which also includes members of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Parquet Courts, Dismemberment Plan and more. Plus, since we last spoke, members of Girls Against Boys, Mutilation Rites, St. Lucia and more were added, as well as MC Tim Harrington (Les Savy Fav). Updated lineup below.

While Geologist is in town this weekend, he'll stop by Baby's All Right on Saturday (11/15) to DJ their recurring Grateful Dead brunch, which as you may have guessed is an afternoon of brunch and DJs spinning Dead tunes. Saturday's show will be hosted by Schaeffer Beach (aka TAO's Rich Schaefer and Bowery Presents' Johnny Beach), goes from noon to 4 PM and is free (the music, not the brunch). Flyer below. The show also doubles as Hold Steady bassist Galen Polivka's birthday party. Here's the details:
The Hold Steady will be celebrating bass player Galen Polivka's birthday in extra special style to end 2014, by having a Birthday Bash at Music Hall of Williamsburg on December 31, 2014. The emo reunions have been aplenty lately (like American Football, Mineral, The Jazz June, etc), and here's another one to get excited about: Rainer Maria!
