A list of celebrities, reportedly created by Obama's campaign, sent out on December 5, and acquired by the Tennessean (PDF HERE), is being passed around the internet. The list, heavily populated with people who we already know support Obama, is supposedly a wishlist of people the Obama administration hopes to get public support from again in this upcoming election. Among the names on the list: Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend, Wilco Regina Spektor, Janelle Monae, The Roots, Jay-Z, will.i.am, Jessica Alba, Laila Ali, Marc Anthony, India.Arie, Sara Bareilles, Jigga, Chelsea Clinton, George Clooney, Bradley Cooper, Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell, Fergie, America Ferrera, Jamie Foxx, Whoopi Goldberg, Al Green, Josh Groban, Neil Patrick Harris, Anne Hathaway, Jack Johnson, the Jonas Brothers, Jewel, Mila Kunis, Blake Lively, Ricky Martin, "Glee" star Lea Michele, Sarah Jessica Parker, Chris Pine, B.o.B, the Band Perry, Train, and Kate Walsh.

Speaking of Regina Spektor, who has played the White House, she has a benefit show coming up at Lincoln Center in NYC and is playing some shows with Tom Petty including one in Austin. All of her dates are listed below.

Speaking of Wilco, they're currently out on the road with White Denim who played a warm-up show at Hotel Vegas in Austin before leaving. All Wilco dates are listed below.

"Singer/songwriter David Byrne and Index Music Inc. have resolved their lawsuit against former Florida Governor Charlie Crist, Charlie Crist for United States Senate, The Stevens and Schriefer Group, Ltd., and Red October Productions, Inc. The lawsuit arose from a web campaign video made by Stevens and Schriefer Group Ltd. And Red October Productions, Inc., which Charlie Crist used in his primary campaign for United States Senate, that incorporated portions of the song Road to Nowhere, a song written by Mr. Byrne and recorded by Mr. Byrne and his band Talking Heads. The lawsuit, filed on May 24, 2010 in the United States District Court in Tampa, alleged that this use of Road to Nowhere required licenses which were not obtained. The financial terms of the settlement are confidential.

After recently celebrating his 50th birthday, the maturing, former heavy rock front man is showing no signs of slowing down or mellowing out. He is not "aging gracefully," he is turning up the volume and raging full on.

Rollins first came to prominence in 1981 as the fourth singer of the seminal hardcore punk band Black Flag. After a brief tour of duty fronting State or Alert in his hometown of Washington, DC, he relocated to Southern California to join Black Flag. Rollins toured extensively and appeared on several recordings until the band broke up in 1986. He was back on the road the following year in 1987 with the Rollins Band which garnered modest commercial success during the 90's with "Liar" and "Low Self Opinion." After three lineups, the band parted ways in 2006.

During the Black Flag years, Rollins founded the 2.13.61 Publishing Company, basically a P.O. Box, where he published a series of folded and stapled self-publications. Ultimately, the roster would expand to include Nick Cave, Jeffrey Lee Pierce, and Glen E. Friedman among others. Additionally, he has acted in films such as David Lynch's "Lost Highway", "Feast" and "Heat"(where he shared a scene with Al Pacino) as well as appearances on television as a part of the cast of "Sons of Anarchy" and on his own IFC talk show.

These days, Rollins is mostly known for his unique brand of spoken word performance. Though, often times humorous, I hesitate to call it stand-up comedy; it exists in region where Lenny Bruce, Bill Hicks and Friedrich Nietzsche converge. It's part political commentary, part travelogue, part story telling session delivered with a high intensity pace the delivers the goods without fail. I've been witnessing these performances since the late 80's when the audience consisted of a handful of punk rockers congregating at some out-of-the way hole in the wall in a bad neighborhood. I caught one of his sold out dates at Joe's Pub in New York City, a nice place with reserved seating, food and a well-stocked bar.

The 'Stand Up For Women's Health' rally went down in Foley Square this afternoon (2/26), from 1-3pm. According to a post-event press release,

On Saturday, February 26, thousands of people came together in Foley Square, in downtown Manhattan, to stand up for women's health, and fight back against the recent Congressional attacks against Planned Parenthood and family planning funding.

The rally comes on the heels of passage of dangerous anti-choice legislation in the House of Representatives, which, if made into law,
would eliminate basic health care and education services for millions of Americans - and according to Department of Health estimates, 800,000 New Yorkers.

David Byrne is suing the governor of Florida, alleging that he used the Talking Heads' 1985 single "Road to Nowhere" without permission or proper licenses.

Byrne is seeking $1 million in damages from Gov. Charlie Crist, who's also Florida's former Attorney General, and his senatorial campaign for use of the song earlier this year in a website and YouTube ad attacking his then-Republican primary opponent, Marco Rubio. Crist has since changed his campaign and is running as an independent candidate. [Billboard]

After Deer Tick played, Senator Chuck Schumer took the Prospect Park Bandshell stage at Celebrate Brooklyn on Friday night to express his love for both Sonia Sotomayor, and the headliner of the evening, Grace Potter (and the Nocturnals).

"The woman is a phenomenon of nature, a tiny thing possessing a huge soul voice. She belts each tune effortlessly, never seeming like she needs to breathe or slow down. Whether channeling a spiritual-with-sin sound on "Big White Gate" or a sassy you-know-you-want-it swagger on "I've Got the Medicine," her gospel-blues confidence proved irresistible. Each song seemed bolder than the last, each verse brasher. Even when she played the B3 organ she seemed a fountain of channeled energy, rising to her feet to pound the keys all the harder whenever she wasn't singing." [Dylan, Etc]

The theme of this summer has been rain, and though the skies opened up halfway into the 5th anniversary show of The Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival on June 20th in Empire Fulton-Ferry State Park, that didn't stop the crowd from swaying to the classic beats and rhymes by a stable of 90s artists. Thankfully the organizers of the DUMBO show thought ahead, and though it was a little packed in there, everyone stayed perfectly dry inside the emergency tent.

With all the veterans of hip hop on Saturday's lineup, you'd think that the most kinetic performance of the day would come from a Grand Puba or Pharoahe Monch. You'd be wrong. Oddly enough, the least "conscious" MC and the one that I always felt was slightly overrated, Styles P of D-Block (fka The Lox), delivered an energetic performance of hits that was matched only by the energy that the crowd bounced back. I was shocked, though pleasantly so.

Millions of viewers heard a recording of the dulcet tones played by a celebrated quartet of musicians at President Barack Obama's inauguration rather than the notes the group actually played.

Carole Florman, a spokeswoman for the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, says the weather was too cold for the instruments to stay in tune. Cellist Yo-Yo Ma, violinist Izhak Perlman, pianist Gabriella Montero and clarinetist Anthony McGill made the decision on Inauguration Day Tuesday to use an audio tape of their performance that they had laid down two days earlier.

Florman says the musicians "very insistant on playing live until it became clear that it would be too cold," making it impossible for the instruments to hold tune. People sitting near them could hear the musicians play, but their instruments were not amplified. [AP]

That may also explain why Yo Yo was using his normal cello instead of the high-tech, carbon-fiber one the NY Times reported he would be using.

...this was the Obama Staff Ball - the final official event put on by the Presidential Inauguration Committee. Arcade Fire and Jay-Z preformed. The actor Kal Penn, who everyone in the crowd knew as 'Kumar' took the stage. He was a surrogate for the campaign so he spent his time on stage outing by name all the staffers who 'tried to kill him' by texting while driving through snowbanks.

Vice-President Joe Biden and his wife Jill made an appearance and then President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama took the stage. The new president said something to the effect of,"You guys are great." To which someone next to us said,"Hire me!" Hm. Seems to be a theme developing. Free beer dude. [Mediabistro]

The culmination of my past six months of work on the Obama campaign resulted in an amazing night. The Obama Staff Ball, which was also the last official Inaugural event, was held last night (1/21) at the DC Armory. The crowd of about 4,000 people included Obama staff and their lucky 'plus ones'. There was an inspiring speech by President Obama and musical performances by both Arcade Fire and Jay-Z. Frankly, I could not ask for a better ending to my campaign experience. It was especially humbling to hear Win Butler constantly thank us for all the hard work we put into the campaign, telling us they were especially honored to have been asked to play this event. I will not bore you with the details of my life on the campaign, but suffice to say it has been the most memorable experience of my life. It's an experience that cannot be matched and we are reminded that we are in a sort of limbo everyday now that it's all over. As Win humorously remarked in the middle of the concert, "This is the funnest party I've been to for people who have all just lost their jobs".

By the time Jay-Z came on, I was mostly too busy having fun to remember I had a camera, so he's not in many pictures. Check out all of them, and Arcade Fire's setlist, below...

So how lucky it is to be one of the staffers working for President Barack Obama over these past two years?

Forget the fact that you worked for a presidential candidate who won (most don't). Or that you probably got tickets to join 1.5 million people at the Inauguration. Or that you got a 50 percent discount on $150 Inaugural Ball tickets. Or that you might have moved into a desk in the West Wing of the White House today.

It gets even better. Word out today is that Arcade Fire, the super-popular Indie rock group, has come to Washington to play a private party for Mr. Obama's staff members at The Armory. (Yep, hard to believe, there's going to be ANOTHER party celebrating Mr. Obama's election). Jay-Z is also performing. [NY Times]

A few minutes ago Bao texted that Arcade Fire was covering their friend Bruce Springsteen's song "Born in the USA".

Bruce performed at a more-public Obama bash on Sunday, and his new new album is now streaming at NPR.

Ted Leo likes to cover Bruce too, and he performed in DC on Monday night.

Tonight is at least the third time Jay-Z performed during his visit to DC for Obama.

Kanye West also managed to get in on the festivities.

That's awesome that Kanye got to meet Aziz. I wonder if he got to meet Obama last night when he played at one of his many inauguration parties...

Opening the show from the Hilton Washington, the night's host, Sway, reminded everyone that after what was sure to be an exhausting first day, it was time to celebrate President Barack Obama's historic inauguration.

Kanye West kicked off the show with a medley of hits like "Touch the Sky," "Stronger" and "Good Life." "Let's make some noise for our new president, Obama," he told the crowd. "It feels so good to be standing here. My mama would be so proud to see her baby boy with the #1 song in the country and our new African-American president."

Later in the night, he joked, "I still can't believe it. I feel like I'm in the future -- first iPods, now this!"

All Kanye-related accolades aside, the night really belonged to President Barack Obama, who dazzled the 7,000 party goers with a heartfelt speech about how thankful he is for the work the young people put in to get him elected. [MTV]

Aziz Ansari's Glow in the Dark tour came through NYC earlier this month. He played four shows at Comix. Before the shows, Aziz was telling Gothamist about how much he loves to read Kanye West's blog, so he is surely pretty excited about the post.

Aziz's still-untitled new TV show with Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones premiers on NBC on Thursday, April 9th.

When the cellist Yo-Yo Ma takes to the inaugural stage on Tuesday [he is on that stage as I type this], the instrument he will have may take music enthusiasts by surprise. Black, with a single-piece body, neck and peg box, and with no scroll at the top, the cello is a high-tech carbon-fiber instrument designed to withstand the cold.

Created by Luis Leguia and his Massachusetts-based company, Luis and Clark, the cello is unaffected by temperature and humidity, which can crack or split the delicate antique instruments that professionals usually use. Mr. Ma plans to play his Luis and Clark cello if the weather warrants, said his manager, Mary Pat Buerkle. His other cello, a 1733 Montagnana from Venice, is worth more than $2 million. Mr. Ma will be playing a score by John Williams with Itzhak Perlman on violin, Gabriela Montero on piano and Anthony McGill on clarinet. Mr. Perlman could not be reached for comment. [NY Times]

Highlights: Ted Leo covering Pete Seeger and Curtis Mayfield. Andrew Bird's wondrous violin plucking that he looped and looped. Tortoise finding a rhythm and sticking to it. Other shows that happened in DC last night were Frightened Rabbit at Rock and Roll Hotel, Jay-Z at Warner Theatre, and the Beastie Boys at 9:30 Club.

Obama is scheduled to take his oath of office at noon today (though they just said on TV that they might be running a little late). Aretha Franklin will sing "My Country Tis of Thee" shortly.

"What to say. it was an amazing week for citizens of the world. A tremendous moment in time and in history. It's been said so much already, but it is all true. Finally, for at least a moment, the premise and the promise of what America is: equal opportunity for all, stops being hypothetical and becomes reality. A wake up call to the world at large that America is once again a land of potential and possibility, not privilege and greed. So many words and images have been put out there, so I will leave y'all with these few scattered images from our swing state travels:

This is and was a campaign by the people for the people. It really was inspiring seeing the many who sacrificed so much of their time, energy, and recourses for the Obama campaign. We are talking all types of people, from all types of places. In many cases traveling hundreds of miles to be of service in a state other then their own.Many students, yes, but also plenty of Bea Arthur types, regular working peeps, you name it. This was not about big money or infrastructure. I will always remember the rickety walk up field office in Milwaukee. Cots set up for people working long shifts. An impromptu day care. These are the people who did the work. On election day itself Yauch and I were in Denver, aka the big D for big E. We had the good fortune of watching the concession and acceptance speeches in a big ball room filled with peeps from the Colorado Obama campaign. I will always remember the beaming radiant smile on the face of a seventy something year old african american women following Obama's acceptance speech. I can only imagine what that moment meant to her. Then there was the dancing and singing in the streets afterwords. I can't remember ever seeing something like that in my lifetime. Maybe in europe after the world cup. In hind sight, the mood that night was more like people celebrating the end of a dictatorship then a democratic election."

Beastie Boys played the "Hey, America Feels Kinda' Cool Again, Inaugural Gala" last night at the 9:30 Club in Washington DC with Sheryl Crow, Citizen Cope, and Justin Jones. Proceeds from the show went to Rock The Vote.

United in their desire to witness a historic moment, hundreds of thousands of people of all ages and races gathered under the marble gaze of former President Abraham Lincoln.

"It's a chance to be part of living history," said Audrey Lewis, from Virginia, as she waited for President-elect Barack Obama's welcome concert in Washington to begin.

Volunteers manning the entrances said spectators had begun arriving at the National Mall soon after 0600, willing to wait for hours to get the best view possible of Mr Obama, less than 48 hours before his inauguration. They thronged along the sides of the Reflecting Pool leading up to the Lincoln Memorial, where, four decades ago, so many massed to hear the words of Martin Luther King.

The significance of the moment seemed lost on no-one and - despite the line-up of celebrities, Stevie Wonder, Usher, U2's Bono, Bruce Springsteen and Beyonce among them - there was no doubt who was the day's real star.

The loudest cheers of the afternoon rang out first when Mr Obama and his family came down the memorial's steps to the stage, and again when he stepped forward to address the crowds.

"In the course of our history, only a handful of generations have been asked to confront challenges as serious as the ones we face right now," he said. "Our nation is at war. Our economy is in crisis."... [BBC]

Mickey Rourke, considered THE coolest guy in Hollywood by all of the other "genuine" cool guys, won the Gold Globe this evening for Best Actor in "The Wrestler."

As if art is imitating life, Rourke played a down and out professional wrestler who makes a valiant comeback just as Mickey is doing as you read this.

The crowd went wild as Mickey has always been well loved and a favorite amongst his acting peers.

Additionally, Bruce Springsteen received the best song prize for the title track to "The Wrestler," stating, "This is the only time I'm going to be in competition with Clint Eastwood," said Springsteen, referring to the filmmaker who had a song nomination for writing the title tune to his "Gran Torino." "It felt pretty good, too!" [The Lang Report]
