Dear 1D fans: We didn't know the band members' names, religions, hobbies, etc. Just knew they were popular. But not THIS popular. #whoa— The Daily Show (@TheDailyShow) September 26, 2014
The Daily Show did the unthinkable this week. They made a joke about boy band One Direction!
The comedy show did a segment with correspondent Jessica Williams, and she talked about a few terrorist organizations, which included to al-Qaeda, Hamas, ISIS, the Zetas drug cartel, and then showed One Direction as a joke. The Daily show has yet to issue a proper apology to these serious charges. Watch the segment below:
Williams doesn't mention Zayn Malik, but members of One Direction's (mostly teenage girl) fanbase apparently didn't get the joke, tweeting about it with the "#TheDailyShowGoneTooFar" hashtag.
Some people thought that because Malik is a Muslim, the band shouldn't be linked with terrorism.
"I am so disappointed with @TheDailyShow !How could them use the word 'terrorist' associated with #onedirection ?" one person wrote.
Said another, "I watch your show but Zayn from One Direction is very sensitive about his religion so he keeps quiet about it. Apologize."
Some of the fans wanted to get the Daily Show "shut down," while some of the comments were borderline threats.
Added another: "@TheDailyShow why don't you apologise for saying such racist remarks about a member of one direction."
Said another, "I JUST FREKIN RETWEETED THE VIDEO OF THE DAILY SHOW N IM LIKE WTF CME ON THTS NOT FUNNY TO INVOLVE ONE DIRECTION IN A TERRORIST GROUP!!" [EPOCH TIMES]

Isis at Irving Plaza in 2009 (more by Paul Birman)
The influential hardcore/post-metal band ISIS, now disbanded, is unfortunately being confused with the terrorist group of the same name. ISIS (the terrorist group), which stands for the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, has shocked the world with a rapid expansion of a so-called caliphate in recent weeks, and for its brutal killings of Shiites and minorities including Christians, Yazidis, and more. Last week, ISIS militants claimed responsibility for beheading the American journalist James Foley, a turning point in the United States' stance towards the group, which led to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel calling ISIS "beyond just a terrorist group" and "beyond anything that we've seen."
Some have mistakenly directed their anger at the terrorist group at the band instead. In an interview with ABC, Isis's drummer Aaron Harris said the attention caught the band off guard and that the band has received "off-color comments" on their Facebook page, which the band has changed to "Isis the band." (Their website similarly is Isistheband.com) Fans have also emailed the band saying they are reluctant to wear the band's shirts in public as they have received "off-color comments."
A representative from the band's label, Ipecac, told ABC that, "It is an unfortunate situation and of course a few less than enlightened people are not seeing the distinction between an inactive band of musicians and a band of terrorists involved in current world affairs."
The Austerity Program commiserated:
So nice to see ISIS popping up in the news. Now they know how we felt back in 2010.— Austerity Program (@usterityprogram) June 23, 2014
Isis the band included a number of members of the post-metal band Palms as well as Aaron Turner of Hydra Head Records. Palms, which also includes Chico Moreno of Deftones, are touring soon. Check out all dates listed below...
"Sorry Sorry Sorry!! Everyone that was inconvenienced because of my grenade at OKC airport!!" - @waynecoyne
The new face of terrorism (via)
What kind of dumbass packs a freaking grenade in his carry-on ... and accidentally tries to take it onto a plane? Answer: Flaming Lips singer Wayne Coyne. And he shut down an Oklahoma City airport in the process. To be fair, maybe he missed the grenade because it was hidden inside one of his oversized hulk hands? He did apologize.
The grenade wasn't live -- thankfully -- but according to the police report, Coyne still accidentally packed it in his bag on November 10 and triggered an alarm at the TSA checkpoint at Will Rogers airport ... like a dumbass.
Needless to say, TSA freaked ... and shut down the terminal while officers frantically tried to figure out how to handle the situation.
According to reports, Coyne was flying to LAX to catch a preview of the new Flaming Lips musical "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" -- and told police he was given the dead grenade at a party as a joke.
Shocker, the grenade reportedly resulted in several missed flights ... and lots of wasted money -- but once TSA determined it was harmless, they let Coyne go. -[TMZ]
UPDATE: He explains the whole story to Pitchfork.
Back in 2008 we posted a diss video by DeLon (watch it below), aimed at fellow Sri Lankan rapper M.I.A.. He mixed gruesome images with her popular song "Paper Planes" to get the point across that she was not a "freedom fighter", but in fact showing support for alleged terrorist group called the Tamil Tigers. M.I.A. responded, denying his accusations and claiming DeLon was just looking for publicity at her expense.
M.I.A. has continued to have an eventful life in the public spotlight since then, and DeLon (pictured above) is now just one of many on the long list of M.I.A. haters, but what has DeLon, who lives in Los Angeles, been up to for the past four years? Well, in addition to continuing his music career, which most recently included landing a spot on a tour with America's Got Talent artist Lindsey Stirling (I don't watch the show, so don't ask me who she is), DeLon has allegedly been dealing with "death threats and a vicious internet smear campaign aimed at destroying his reputation [that was] unleashed by Tiger supporters." Yeah, fun!
Now he says that campaign successfully cost him this latest tour. Today he announced that he was forced to quit the tour with Lindsey because "fans, sponsors and parents who took their kids to his concert were a Google search away from believing he was a criminal." In order to help clear his name, he has posted what looks like a letter from Sri Lanka Consul General Dr. Hector Weerasinghe in Los Angeles, which says DeLon is innocent of any crimes and backs up the allegations that "tactics" are being "used to vilify his character and sabotage his endeavors for peace". But now DeLon plans to take it even further and use his time off to work on scrubbing the dirt off the internet.
Check out a "news report" on YouTube that claims DeLon is a child predator, the original M.I.A. diss video, a video statement posted by DeLon today, and his full press release, below...

Jennifer Moore, armed & dangerous (more by Tim Griffin)
We have some unfortunate news about our show tonight. Jennifer Moore of YellowFever was detained at the airport in Houston this morning. YellowFever played a gig last night in Houston and were scheduled to grab an early flight to New York City this morning. A sleep-deprived Jennifer (who works by day at Rudy's BBQ in Austin), forgot to take a chef's knife out of her carry on. Long story short, she was arrested at the airport and won't be able to make it to NYC. Jennifer has NO prior criminal record and we have been assured that the incident is a big misunderstanding. We wish her well as they sort out the details.Bummer! But at least we are safe now. I kid. Hopefully everything gets taken care of in time for YellowFever to make it to New Orleans by July 3rd and then back to NYC to play Cake Shop on July 8th. Those dates and more HERE.
Not to worry, our evening will kick off at 6pm with a DJ set by Mike Wolf followed by Woven Bones and local favorite Beach Fossils.
Please join us for the kick-off to another great summer here at the Seaport.
So that means Beach Fossils have yet another show. You may have caught them last night at Bruar Falls and they're also playing July 4th at Water Taxi Beach in LIC. More info on that party and the rest of their dates HERE.
Back in April we posted an interview with Jonah Matranga who is putting out a new Far album, and playing Mercury Lounge solo on May 21st (tickets). Since then he added a NJ show at Maxwell's. That happens to be TONIGHT (5/19). Tickets are still available.
Poison the Well is co-headlining every date on a "10 For $10 summer tour" - ten bands for $10. Bands will vary at each stop.
Freddy Cricien of Madball said, "This 10 for 10 tour concept is way overdue in my opinion. I'm glad and thankful, that the people involved, stepped up to actually make something like this happen! Our genre (Hardcore) in the states, is in a "strange" place right now. There is somewhat of a lack of appreciation for this "sub-culture". A lot of people want to say they know certain bands, or are affiliated with this underground scene,etc,etc... Because it gives them some credibility, it sounds cool! Well, this is everyone's chance to re-introduce themselves, and actually get involved with a very unique and authentic genre/movement. It's also a chance for all of us, the bands, to show our stuff as well!"Tickets are now on pre-sale for the tour that stops at Starland Ballroom (NJ) and Terminal 5 (NYC). NYC (tickets on sale Friday) gets Madball, Poison the Well, Terror, Vision, War of Ages, The Ghost Inside, Death Before Dishonor, Trapped Under Ice, Crime in Stereo, and This is Hell. NJ (tickets on sale Friday) has VOD (Vision and Vision of Disorder on the same bill) instead of Madball.
Tickets also recently went on sale for H2O, Sick of it All, Agnostic Front, and many other shows. All 10 for $10 dates below...
