The 121st edition of the beloved New Year’s Day tradition brought thousands to the beach and boardwalk.

Thousands of attendees donned sequins, body paint, shells, pasties, scales, flowers, headpieces (and in many cases, very little else) to celebrate creativity, nautical mythology, fertility, the start of summer, and letting one’s freak flag fly.

Coney Island and fireworks go hand in hand, and are an NYC summer tradition…

Temperatures reached the 50s, but it was still very chilly in the water.

Travis Scott played a surprise set opening for Meek Mill in Coney Island on Monday night, where he stopped the show to tell attendees to climb down from a lighting rig, and had the crowd take a few steps back.

Mx Justin Vivian Bond (as Queen Mermaid) and former NYC health commissioner Dr. Dave A. Chokshi (as King Neptune) led over 3,000 mermaids, mermen, merpeople, and sea creatures of all sorts along Surf Ave and the boardwalk.

Saturday was mild, with temperatures in the 50’s, but there was some light rain to contend with, and hundreds of people, in costumes, bathing suits, or their clothes, turned out to take a dip in the Atlantic, or cheer on the swimmers

Summer here and things are returning to some sense of normalcy in NYC, including fireworks at Coney Island.
