The 67-year-old artist also heads out on tour this month.

“This documentary will introduce the world to him in a way they haven’t seen him before,“ says Auerbach. ”I’m still learning bits about him that I never knew, and I hope the movie provides a lens into the story of the life of Dr John.”

Dan Auerbach produced the album, and it’s coming out on his Easy Eye Sound label.

“John Prine was my hero for a long time when he came into the butcher shoppe to recut one of his deepest classics with me,” recalls Kurt. “Man, I was floating and flying and i couldn’t hear anything he told me.” The EP’s out in October.

The album was produced by Mark Neill and features co-writing by Dan Auerbach and Pat McLaughlin, and the new video is part of a series where Crockett ”plays the same lonesome character traveling through the American wilderness.”

The virtual tribute festival features Jason Isbell/Amanda Shires, Kacey Musgraves, Margo Price, Sturgill Simpson, a collaboration from Kurt Vile, Jim James, and Courtney Marie Andrews, and more…

The lineup has been announced for Thursday’s “Picture Show: A Tribute Celebrating John Prine” and also includes Brandi Carlile, Bonnie Raitt, Jim James, Bill Murray, Iris DeMent, and lots more.
