The Polaris Music Prize Gala is tonight (9/18) in Toronto, where it will be decided what Canadian album from the past year is most deserving of this year’s coveted award. Weaves, Tanya Tagaq, Leif Vollebekk and other nominees are performing.

Canada’s The Polaris Music Prize has whittled down its longlist into its ten-LP shortlist who will vie for the 2017 award. Can anything beat Leonard Cohen‘s You Want it Darker? Should anything?

The National & Sufjan Stevens, Chilly Gonzales & Jarvis Cocker, Moby, Julia Holter, and more are also playing TBA Montreal concerts in conjunction with the Leonard Cohen exhibit.

Nominees include Leonard Cohen, Drake, Feist, The New Pornographers, Mac DeMarco, Japandroids, and more.

Big Thief released their sophomore album Capacity today, one of the most anticipated and best albums from a young indie band this year (read our review). One of its standout tracks, “Mary,” dates back to a one-off collaborative set that Big Thief singer Adrianne Lenker played with Tiny Hazard singer Alena Spanger at The Hum in 2015…

Tuesday night (1/24) was the “Sincerely L. Cohen: A Celebration of Leonard Cohen” tribute at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg, which featured loving renditions of his songs as well as readings of his poetry.
