The 2018 edition of Afropunk Festival wrapped up on Sunday with sets from Erykah Badu, Janelle Monae, Tyler The Creator, Pusha T, Trash Talk, Denzel Curry, Jamila Woods and more, plus art, activism, and lots of attendees dressed in eye-catching fashion.

After a string of rainy weekends, it was nothing but sunshine and blue skies as Afropunk Festival kicked off its 2018 edition on Saturday (8/25) with Kaytranada, The Internet, Miguel, JPEGMAFIA, Smino, Daniel Caesar, H.E.R. and more.

Afropunk returns to Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park this weekend, and set times are live on the festival’s app – and with them, a few conflicts.

Kaytranada, Death Grips, Pusha T, Rico Nasty and more join N.E.R.D, The Internet, Benjamin Booker, Noname, Little Simz, serpentwithfeet and others for the Afropunk Atlanta Carnival of Consciousness.

He’s inventive as both a producer and a rapper, and he gives Veteran an experimental, abstract feel that should have Shabazz Palaces fans at the edge of their seats. But he also rivals any handful of conscious rappers and hardcore rappers, dishing out lines about racism, the alt-right, politics, and gentrification that are dripping with venom.

Brooklyn has Erykah Badu, Tyler the Creator, Miguel, Janelle Monae, The Internet, and more; and Atlanta’s big headliner is N.E.R.D.

I asked myself “How did this happen?” “How did a two day music festival located between the projects and the Navy Yard turn into this larger expression?”
