The first of three free BrooklynVegan SXSW day parties at Cheer Up Charlies in Austin went down yesterday (3/17). 15 bands took over the venue’s indoor and outdoor stages from noon to 6 pm, with a punk show outside and a more eclectic bill inside. Here’s pictures and a recap of the whole day.

Our free SXSW day party on March 18 at Cheer Up Charlies includes the genre-defying Cocorosie, the prolific Kevin Morby, R&B trio KING, eccentric pop duo Prince Rama, indie rockers Pinegrove, feminist punks Tacocat, the new ex-Smith Westerns band Whitney, and many more.

Japanese Breakfast shares album version of an older track, “The Woman That Loves You,” which is the third single off the upcoming Psychopomp. She’s also playing one of two NYC shows on SALES’ upcoming tour (the other is with Long Beard).

We’re happy to announce the lineup for first of three FREE BrooklynVegan SXSW day parties happening at Cheer Up Charlies this year! Thursday includes a punk stage outside and an indoor stage with a mix of quieter singer/songwriters and some loud bands too.

Last year, Philly lo-fi pop songwriter Alex G released his first album for Domino, Beach Music, and he’s now made a video for its track “Mud.” The video stars Alex and Emily Yacina, who also sings harmonies with Alex on the song…
