The list is being celebrated with a free NYC show tonight, headlined by Rickie Lee Jones, who will perform Pirates in full (#49 on the list).

“I don’t know who the nominators are, and frankly don’t care, but the person who put Bad Brains name in the hat is either visionary, or they’re savvy and trying to bring some legitimacy to their brand,” Ian MacKaye says.

Pearl Jam and Tupac Shakur are nominated in the first year that they’re eligible.

It’s very a eclectic playlist, as you would probably expect from Frank, covering a ton of stylistic and historical ground.
