Antifolk scene epicenter SideWalk Cafe, which was host to Beck, Moldy Peaches and more, is closing after 33 years.

The NJ institution will close its storefront after 22 years in business.

”There are lots of obstacles to running a retail storefront in NYC; too many of them at once to fight, and after 36 pretty intense years, not enough left to fight them.”

After 18 years on 42nd St, B.B. King Blues Club and Grill shut its doors for the last time on Sunday and thing closed out with blues legend Buddy Guy….

Tonight’s the last night (1/8) for the Greenpoint watering hole and venue which opened a decade and a half ago.

Bar Matchless has been a Greenpoint staple since 2003.

“With a sigh, the continuing saga of Norton Records is about to start yet another chapter, as we work toward a huge move of our headquarters in Brooklyn. Right now, the shop will have to close in order to make the move happen…”

Don Pedro’s last day is May 6.

“After increasing pressure from the local authorities it’s no longer sustainable for us to continue to operate the way we have over the past 8 years. Though steps are being taken to acquire the necessary permits to secure both the short and long term future of Shea, it’s become increasingly clear that we won’t be able to keep having shows in the meantime. “

This will be another huge blow to NYC’s vibrant but already struggling experimental and avant-garde music scene, but at least John Zorn is giving us over a year to properly say goodbye.
