Following days of police violence against unarmed, peaceful protesters and hundreds of arrests, de Blasio has finally lifted NYC’s 8 PM curfew, one day earlier than planned. He also says he will shift funding from the NYPD to youth and social services.

Monday and Tuesday mark the first times the city has been placed under a curfew in 75 years, since 1943, when Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia enacted one in response to protests in Harlem following the shooting of a Black soldier by a white police officer.

”We’re probably going to be looking at 9 or 10 o’clock,” as a curfew starting this weekend, Jersey City mayor Steven Fulop said.
