Pedro the Lion’s first album in 15 years is due out in January.

David Bazan seems refreshed and genuinely glad to be back as Pedro the Lion’s frontman, and it’s not even a nostalgia thing. The band is gearing up to release their new album Phoenix in February 2019 via Polyvinyl, and when they played the new song ”Quietest Friend” from it last night, it fit in perfectly with the classics.

The reunited Pedro the Lion hit Bowery Ballroom last night and they’re playing Music Hall of Williamsburg tonight. They played tons of old favorites, a few of David Bazan’s solo cuts, and a new song…

”It’s surreal for it to be covered by someone I respect so much,” said former Now, Now member Jess Abbot (now of Tancred).

”Just finished tracking Pedro the Lion’s “Phoenix” two minutes ago. We start mixing…well…later today. Pretty excited,” says David Bazan.

Veteran indie/emo songwriters Kevin Devine and David Bazan team for a split that features both artists covering comparatively newer band Now, Now. The first taste is Bazan’s rendition of “Thread.”

Manchester Orchestra and Julien Baker put a unique spin on this Pedro the Lion song and they sound brilliant doing so. Proceeds will be donated to 1 Million 4 Anna.
