The film about ’80s Long Island radio station features interviews and rare archival footage with such acts as U2, Blondie, Thompson Twins, Duran Duran, Joan Jett, Simple Minds, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Billy Idol, Frankie Goes to Hollywood and more.

A whole bunch of punk, new wave, indie/alt rock artists have come together to pay tribute to beloved radio personality and novelty music guru Dr. Demento on a new two-disc tribute titled Covered in Punk. Artists such as Nobunny, Joan Jett, The Dead Milkmen, Colleen Green, The Meatmen, Shonen Knife, The Vandals, Fred Schneider, Quintron & Miss Pussycat, Los Straitjackets, Misfits, and more have covered classic songs that were staples of Dr Demento’s radio show…

The list is being celebrated with a free NYC show tonight, headlined by Rickie Lee Jones, who will perform Pirates in full (#49 on the list).

Blondie’s new album also features Joan Jett, Johnny Marr, Sia, Charli XCX, Dave Sitek, Nick Valensi, and producer John Congleton.

Tommy Stinson and more were also on hand for Malin’s holiday benefit show.

The show is a benefit for Jesse’s friend and former tour manager Natty B, who was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2010 and struck with paralysis, and it also includes members of The Replacements, The Hold Steady, and more.
