Fullerton, CA record store/label/way-of-life Burger Records, who has somewhat cornered the market on low-fi, nasally, tongue-in-cheek powerpop/punk/garage, has been hosting Burgerama fests in California for a few years…

We already posted pictures of the Mikal Cronin/Shannon & the Clams show from day 3 (6/15) of Toronto festival NXNE, and that same day we also caught Mikal on the annual M for Montreal / Panache Bruise Cruise during NXNE with Toronto locals Odonis Odonis, Montreal’s We Are Wolves, and rapper Fat Tony (who also played Yonge-Dundas Square)…

But the afternoon, and perhaps NXNE as a whole belonged to recent Merge Records signing Mikal Cronin. This was his third of four shows at the fest and while he appeared rushed due to time constraints, Cronin sounded exactly as you’d hope he would: poppy but scrappy, daring but focused and completely engaging…
