The long list for the 2018 Polaris Music Prize– Canada’s annual award for a great album — has been announced.

Long-running NYC DIY venue Silent Barn is sadly closing at the end of the month but you’ve still got a bunch of chances to hang out there and their final schedule includes some good shows.

The annual punk mecca’s 17th year also includes Lagwagon, Dead To Me, Tim Barry, Iron Chic, RVIVR, War On Women, Riverboat Gamblers, Gouge Away, Kississippi, and more.

’90s alt-rock loving Partner and disco Francophones Le Couleur were among the bands who played M for Montreal’s SXSW showcase on Swan Dive’s patio.

Quebec City’s massive, 11-day festival runs July 5-15 and the lineup also includes Beck, The Weeknd, Foo Fighters, Phoenix, Sturgill Simpson, Sum 41, Cyndi Lauper, Car Seat Headrest, Frank Turner, Jane Birkin, Bonobo, Brockhampton, Jethro Tull and a whole bunch more.

The annual Toronto fest returns in June.

Philly’s Queen of Jeans are celebrating their new Topshelf-released album at a hometown show with Katie Ellen, whose singer Anika Pyle is touring with Cayetana’s Augusta Koch.

After two days of watching emerging, “export-ready” acts at M for Montreal, there were a lot more choices on Friday (11/17) at the fest, with shows happening all over the city. Unfortunately almost all the acts I wanted to see were playing at the exact same time…
